  1. No, I was thinking of Mercury Morris. MM couldn't have been any bigger than 5'8" X 190lbs.
  2. GO! FIGHT'N NUTRIAS!!!! http://www.nationaltrappers.com/nutria.html
  3. My source tells me that the Gainesville player (the all-state LB) went after his knees with his helmet......at the end of a very impressive multi-direction-changing-juking-darting run. My source also tells me that this years Gainesville players are known to make leg and ankle "adjustments" on opposing players, while they are in a pile-up. Anyway, my source tells me that Devin is a "ball of gristle" who can play D-1 ball and could (if developed) make some very big plays for North Texas.
  4. Oh my! Now, there's an image that people didn't need......... .......
  5. Waters will be called upon to help bring along the younger linemen. He has coaching ability? Hmmmmm........
  6. Well, I've certainly tried from time to time. Like the time I was harassing Cerebus on the sidelines at the ArkSt. game.
  7. idp054, do you live in Decatur? I agree about him needing to be paired with a good role model. Besides a good "peer" role model, kids from his situation (this is my area of expertise) need to have their support system close by (ie his foster/adoptive parents). That's why I hope that the coaching staff is not thinking about placing him at a JUCO. It won't work.
  8. I watched him play only one time, and that was the Decatur/Abeline Wylie game in 04. Devin had been hurt the week before, so he wasn't playing at 100% against Wylie. I was struck by how quick he was,...even while playing hurt. For those old enough, I would compare Devin's style of running and quickness to that of "Mercury Morris". Being 5'7" doesn't bother me either. I believe that there is a former Oklahoma Sooner RB who was 5'7" and is now playing in the NFL. I also believe that Ja'Quay Wilburn was about 5'7".
  9. I'm gratified that the coaching staff went after someone that they thought would help the program. However, I think that they should have better spent their time and energy on players that really wanted to be here, and were more........motivated. I believe that Scott Hall came here because he was motivated to succeed at QB, and no other program was willing to give him a shot at QB. I was re-reading an article recently in an old Texas Football about my favorite QB Jordan Case. Case was overlooked because he was injured in HS. He went to Sul Ross St and played one year there. He was either newcomer of the year or freshman of the year in that league. He then wrote a letter to the North Texas coaching staff, asking that he be given a chance to play at North Texas. I'm assuming that the coaching staff at that time was impressed both by his freshman showing (in a less than impressive league) as well as his level of motivation to be here. The rest, (for those who had the pleasure of watching him play) is history. Jordan Case was a player with outstanding talent, as well as an incredible drive to succeed. He was also a person of incredible character. To me, being able to assess/judge those things in a recruit is a very valuable asset as a coach/recruiter.
  10. Is it too late to call the kid from Trinity?
  11. I wish him well too. However, I think that we have enough viable candidates to work with for a few years.
  12. I called the hospital and they told me the same thing......no Dickey of any sort has been admitted to their hosp.
  13. That's what I'm thinking.

  15. Uhhh, are you both saying that Fouts was "crappy" from the day that it opened?
  16. At 265 or 270, Miller certainly didn't have true nose tackle size, but I believe that Sky Pruitt (at 6'2" X 290 to 295) did. Unless of course the published programs exaggerated S. Pruitt's size. My assessment of Pruitt was that he was big enough and strong enough, before a shoulder injury cut him down to operating at about 80% of his ability. We really got spoiled with Booger. When he was operating at top effeciency, he was regularly drawing triple team blocks.
  17. BTW, after viewing some of the responses, it's very evident that the coaching staff at North Texas is not the only ones lacking any imagination.
  18. It was pretty much a given that Greg McElroy (the Southlake QB) was going to Tech. Now, I believe that he's going to Alabama. We at least had some sort of connection to Renfro to work with. This article also gives me some ideas. Since the article indicated that Ray Renfro's genes skipped a generation, maybe we should do some reasearch about the grandchildren of some of our other former stars. Does Joe Greene have grandkids? How about Abner Haynes? Steve Ramsey? Cedric Hardeman?.........
  19. Interesting article about Clint Renfro. http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/13741875.htm I have to wonder if we were ever interested in him, or if we thought he was too unattainable and didn't even try. Here are some ideas that I would have tried with him. I would have invited him to the new athletic center and showed him his grandfathers jersey that had been retired (our first as I recall), and told him that we would unretire the number for him. Since he is interested in track, I would have made sure that he got to talk with Johnny Quinn and Jamario about their dual-participation in track/football. I would have talked to him about how his grandfather helped North Texas move up into the (for it's time) the D-1 level, and how he could help North Texas regularly get into the top 25 D-1 level......or higher.
  20. You know Jim, in some ways you remind me of the person that been married about 7 times, and is about to enter into his 8th. You wonder why he keeps doing something that he's clearly not successful at (in your case trying to convince the Mean Green masses and/or administrators to fire Dickey) but you kind'of admire his persistence. BTW, I'm still open to taking up a collection for that "PMG-better-drugs-and-getting-laid" fund. BTW, congratulations on your new job. PM me and give me details. And to Baby Arm. Don't make fun of the "Lone Gunmen". It was one of my favorite shows when it was on.
  21. Yep, he's the one. I'd say he's quicker than Patrick.
  22. Any word on who our "John" will be in late September.
  23. I couldn't make the link work on that RB. Is that the same guy that played for Decatur last year? Because if it is, then he is one quick RB!
  24. I believe in Meager. I think that if he has had the opportunity to do more PT on his shoulder, and the PT has been effective, then I think he has the physical and mental ability to be our QB. During the season, it seemed to me that he wasn't comfortable with his throwing motion, and I got the feeling that he was being told not to run. I think that toward the end of the season, the coaching staff either let him loose to do his own thing, or he made the decision to do it on his own. We'll see what sort of effect this last season has had on him psychologically when spring practice starts. I hope that he has a tendency to look forward, and that last fall is not part of his current thought process. Being at his best is only going to make all the other candidates work harder, and therefore make the QB position one of our strengths this fall,.... instead of the question mark that it was last fall.
