  1. Jack, considering you usual positive view on things, I find this (and an earlier post) somewhat distressing.......and so should anyone else who cares about this program. I've just seen North Texas live with, and wear, the apathy badge so long that I hate to see anything that even looks like it. If someone is seriously thinking of withdrawing their physical presence and financial support, then maybe an e-mail campaign would be an alternative. After every game, send an e-mail to the AD, BOR, and "cc" the DRC, DMN, and FWST beat writers. It can basically say that you've (we've) made the decision after many long years as a fan/alumni to not attend North Texas games any longer because.......(list the reasons here). Mention how much you usually spend as a MGC member and how much you usually spend on season tickets. You can finish up by saying that you will be encouraging others to follow your example. Someone will get pretty nervous about this, especially if they know that the beat writers will regulary get the e-mail......and one of them might decide to do an "expose". My main concern lately has been the lack of communication from the athletic dept. We need another "quarterly meeting" so that people can ask hard questions of the AD and Head coach. Instead of those "soft-ball" questions that are usually pitched by (and I have the greatest respect for him otherwise) George Dunham.
  2. Jim, let me take this opportunity to suggest something regarding your disillusionment with North Texas athletics, as well as the athletic administration.....and maybe the school administration as well. If you (or anyone else for that matter) makes the decision to withdraw, both physically (not coming to games) and financially from this program, then the people that you blame have won. Now, I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with your list of people with whom you have become disillusioned. But assuming that they are the reason for most of the problems at North Texas, why let them off the hook by withdrawing? I was never more proud of you than when I heard about your "nose to nose" debate with a certain Athletic Dept administrator (over the kids corner debacle) right before the last TCU game in Fort Worth. THAT is how to really get your message across. If you're not happy with how things are going, then my attitude is "show up and make their life miserable". It's the American way!
  3. Playmaker, what do you mean "you" Mean Greeners. You're not part of this Mean Green experience?
  4. A FOUR WORD POST?!?!..
  5. Well, I was told that our 12th game this year would either be Nebraska, Auburn or BYU. So, by process of elimination.........
  6. If it was "band-aid" surgery, he should be out there on opening day. My wife went home the afternoon of her morning gallbladder surgery.
  7. If that is true, then I don't understand why "another" assistant is still on staff. I would rather keep Van Malone.
  8. I think that Michael Pruitt, Darrell Daniels, Jonah Bense and to a certain extent Brandon Hooks, lived up to expectations. I think that Kevin Galbreath did too. I think that Aaron Weathers has exceeded expectations.
  9. Geez, my wife said the same thing. She kept saying "Oh Mick, you need to put that long sleeved shirt back on". She also commented that there are two basic people from the "hippy" generation. The ones who like the Beatles (us) and the ones who like the Stones. I kept wondering what has kept Keith Richards on his feet for the last 15/20 years. For the last ten years, he's looked like (as my sister is fond of saying) death chewing on a cracker.
  10. I think that to a certain extent you may be right. But as FFR has pointed out, fans will get excited about seeing THEIR team play anyone.......as long as they have a reasonable expectation that THEIR team is going to win. For the umpteenth time, here is my example. Our first ever sell-out at Fouts was when we were a 1-AA school and our opponent was SFA! Why? Because North Texas was winning, the Mean Green was exciting to watch, and we had great promotions during that era.
  11. Is he a walk-on? Transfer? Did he receive any "all-district" honors while playing for Pflugerville?
  12. ....which (from my observation) would be missed by many of the posters on this board........hence my pedantic version of your statement.
  13. To me, you know your not a Mean Green fan (a serious one anyway) if you think you can be seriously injured by a corn tortilla.
  14. I know that there are a lot of "unknown" walk-on/transfers, but who is this? where is he from? What position? height and weight?
  15. Money certainly has a lot to do with a coach's decision, but other factors come in to play as well. If coaches and their personalities were electrical systems, then from my observation of him, Coach Malone was wired for 220. He had very high energy, high expectations of his players, lots of enthusiasm, and an attitude that he was always going to win. How many of the other coaches would you describe that way? How many of the staff in the athletic dept, would you describe that way? Administration? Fans?
  16. He usually is.
  17. Is there a third kind of lineman catagory for that 11th signee?
  18. I agree. "Opening it up" is a lot different than "passes of desperation".
  19. I'm wondering why everyone thinks that Patton is so much better than Mr. Santiago. Last I heard, Texas football is pretty highly regarded, and Mr. Santiago was named to a Texas 5-A all-state team.
  20. I like the polo that the young man is wearing. I'd like to see ALL of the team wearing them when they do their walk-thru with the fans on game day. I also like the green "T's" that many of those people were wearing at the ceremony. Bold and simple.......classic.
  21. Is his "ship" part of the five that DD talks about?
  22. If it's his gallbladder, and if he has "band-aid" surgery (like my wife did), he'll be able to preside over spring ball. But he'll need to have it done this week. I am very sorry to hear about this. I am very relieved that it doesn't appear to be cardio-vascular in nature. He needs to stop smoking.......as does everyone who smokes.
  23. for sure would work better
  24. You know. It doesn't seem like it is destined for me to make connections with the organization. My wife and I decided this morning to go to the movies tonight. Timely announcements guys.
