  1. If Coach Archie coaches in the same intense manner that he played for our program, then we are going to see an improvement at the RB position. Ramone Archie (#25 on your program) was a hard runner, and as a Safety was a hard hitter.
  2. Huff, according to the official NT press guide, there was only one game played in September of 1960.......I'm talking home or away. Sept. 24th vs UTEP was the opening game of the 1960 season.....we tied them 16-16. 1960 was a nine game season! Was that the case for all of the NCAA teams, or just us?
  3. Probably the homecoming game in 1963, which was Wichita State. North Texas won the game 7-3. I think Dwain Bean and Bobby Smith were the star players at that time. My HS Band attended the homecoming....along with other local HS bands.
  4. Coaches move around to different positions all the time. Remember this guy? http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.db...300&ATCLID=8859 When he was at North Texas he was the OC. Coach Archie played RB for at least one year at NT. That means that he probably played it most of his HS career.
  5. Thanks. Interesting info.
  6. A. where did they find Coach Carthel? B. Was he instrumental in turning around the program in his previous job? Or did he work for someone who did? C. Do you know approximately what Coach Carthel's salary is? D. How would you describe his personality? How much does he get out into the community to promote Buffalo Football? F. How much does WT A$M charge for season tickets? How much for walk-up reserved seat tickets?
  7. I think I'll call it the "Hayden Fry/Corkey Nelson" T-Shirt.

  9. That stadium was still there (well, mostly) in the mid-to-late 60's and I can confim that it had more than three rows I was on campus one spring with my HS band for a UIL contest. During a break, we stood out on the back entrance of the old Lab School and watched the spring Greek Olympics going on at old Eagle field. You know, as I recall, the sight lines were better at Old Eagle stadium.
  10. Well, he was here as an assistant for a season or two. We also had the services of this guy for a few seasons. http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.db...300&ATCLID=8859 I believe he was the OC when he was at North Texas
  11. ......what if I guaranteed that the North Texas Dancers would be on the train?
  12. I was at that game. The attendance wasn't that sparse,.....it just wasn't a sell-out like the Liberty Bowl folks wanted.
  13. Well, let's just say that Hayden Fry clearly understood what was important in selling his program (other than winning games) and he was clearly aware of the "potential resources" that were available at that time. If I remember correctly, it was around that time that the "Eagle Dolls" got started. They eventually dropped the name,....... but the tradition (and the dancing girls) lives on.
  14. Well, for what it's worth. Shortly after he was hired, Fry held a "town meeting" during the lunch hour at one of the large auditoriums on campus. There was a story in the campus paper, so everyone was aware of it. The placed was packed. Fry shared his "vision" for North Texas with the students and faculty that day. He was very well received, and the only time that any of the students chuckled was when he said that he wanted North Texas to be the "Notre Dame of the south". Toward the end of the meeting, a tall blond stood up and asked (in her best Ginger-from-Gilligan's-Island voice) "what can us girls do to help with the program?". There was just the slightest look of lechery that fleetingly crossed his face, and then he smiled, and shared his ideas on that subject,......which eventually became the "Eagle Angels". So, I'd feel pretty safe in saying that Fry got the students very much involved.
  15. This is a much better direction than we were going at this time last year. Much better Karma.
  16. Ohmygod! you said that name!
  17. Okay, in light of recent headlines about gas prices going up to $3.00 again. I just thought that I'd mention that, even if you book a ride by yourself on Amtrak to Austin and back, the cost to you will be $46.00 ROUND TRIP I wouldn't be surprised if they raise their fares in the near future.
  18. Utah......or as they affectionately refer to it up there ....."UU" "UU" is in Salt Lake City Utah State is in Logan Utah.
  19. Size 2X please.
  20. As one of the people that posted a comment on his article points out, he's completely ignoring the NFL and NBA. They both have long seasons (longer than the colleges), and then they have a play-off. I'm constantly amazed at who gets paid to write for publications these days.
  21. You hire a consultant to analyze the Hayden Fry-type personality and do a profile. You only interview coaches that have noticably turned smaller programs around, and who have energized the fan base in the process. And if it were me. During the interview, I'd ask the applicant to get up and pretent that he is at a local event in Denton (Lions club etc) and give me an extemporaneous speech extolling the virtues of North Texas, and telling me why people should come to North Texas sporting events. I would then ask him to pretent that he was at a new conference event on the North Texas campus and then pose a series of questions to him, that some disgruntled students and/or fans might throw at him. And finally. I would make sure that there were ABSOLUTELY NO OLD NESTERS AND/OR *FACULTY COMMITTEE INVOLVED IN THE HIRING PROCESS. * this is in reference to the Dennis Parker hiring debaucle
  22. This is the latest response from Amtrak. My question had to do with people making reservations on thier own, or as a group using a special code for the event. We will need specific travel dates to start so the space can be requested, then when the space is confirmed we will call you with the pricing information and about two weeks after you will need to make a 10 percent deposit. We won't need any names at this time but a complete passenger name list will be needed before you make your final payment, which will be explained on the confirmation letter that we will send you. If your group makes their own reservations individually, we will have no control over it and they will not be considered a group, all passengers need to be traveling together under the same reservation and itinerary to be a group. Thank you Amtrak group Department. Ok, does anyone (or any group) want to get involved in this?
  23. They (UCLA) must have really paid DeLoach a lot more money, because the cost of living (especially the housing) in California is significantly higher than the North Texas area. I don't know about the cost of living in Central Florida.
