Have to agree with you and LongJim. Improved DL play last year would have been the difference in at least a couple of games......if not more. So my vote goes for Ike.

????????? ummmmmm......no. I just wondered why you suddenly seem to think that you have some great insights into the program, and into the behaviors/motivations of some of the long time (and long suffering) fans.

A. I don't know what SEC treatment is. B. How is it that you have such great insight into what some of the "big name" people are demanding?

In 71 we lost to Weber St (0-20) and to Akron (6-20). Yes, his last season (72) was 1-10. The following spring I remember reading an article in the Daily about graffiti. They finished up the story by giving some local examples. One of the examples was found written on the men's restroom wall in the large auditorium. According to the article, it was inspired by the previous football season. It read......."Despite popular belief, the Mean Green is NOT a social disease". It was also right after that season that there was a student referendum to drop football. The referendum failed. I was told that it didn't fail by much.

I remember those days very well. There were a lot of life sentences handed out in those days.........for possession of pot forgodsakes.

In the case of the Patriots, he took over after the head coach was fired. He didn't keep the head coaching job for very long. There is no doubt that he was a knowledgable coach. He just wasn't college head coach material.

You forgot to mention who was leading the team. I'm guessing that it was Glenn Ray. He and Ken Smith were transfers. One of them transfered from Nebraska.

Seems like we had more than that when we were 1-AA.

Well, we know that we have at least one QB that can get the ball to him, hopefully that QB will be given a little more time to throw this fall.

I will also assume that the development that went on at QB, RB, DL, and in the OL during the spring continues into the fall. Assuming all those things (and assuming that all of the coaching staff is wearing their "I didn't come here to lose" t-shirts under their game day gear), we should go 11-1

However, regardless of how small of a return it was for the North Texas administration (and even if it was totally unintentional), "Band Day" did help create at least one future Mean Green fan............ .........

In light of the fact that we had to fight to get "Scrappy" back, can you imagine what the reaction would have been if someone had suggested any sort of mascot name here at North Texas that had "war" in it?

It's not the team that I don't have faith in, it's the attitidue of the coaching staff.......and it starts at the top. A week or so ago, I posted this link. http://www.lighterside.com/website/store/p...%5Fpage%5Fno=21 If you want to see where the "attitude problem" begins, then purchase the T-shirt and ask Coach Dickey to wear it every day of the week leading up to the Texas game. See what he says. While you're at it, you might just take him aside and say "Coach, what's your plan for winning the Texas game?" or "Coach, is it your plan to go down to Austin and win that game?". My guess is that you won't get a straight answer. Now, if you had been around during the Hayden Fry or Corky Nelso era, the answer to the second question would have been an emphatic "HELL YES"!!!! We don't hear stuff like that anymore.

They didn't even mention Stanley (#62). In fact, he wasn't even on the two-deep roster despite the fact that he ran with the 2nd team during all of the spring practice.

You know, a better idea would be to play one game in the infield at TMS on a race week-end. We could do a race/football package ticket. Even if only half of the usual race crowd shows up, we'd have about 60K at the game.............

That would be the UTA game. I won't mention the score. We faced a future NFL star in Dexter Bussy in that game.
