  1. To answer your questions. A. Yes B. If the answer to "A" is yes, then the answer to "B" is also yes. There! Does this adequately meet your needs BD?
  2. Is the University of Illinois being required to change the name of their mascot.
  3. Just got mine at the local "wally world". The North Texas coverage is one of the most unremarkable I've seen in a long time.
  4. Well.....me for one. People on this board can (as my dear departed mother-in-law would say) "jump on their horses and gallop off in all directions" faster than just about any other group of people I've ever been around.
  5. I totally agree. I guess it's easier to go after things like this, with the blessing of the "PC" crowd, than it is to go after cheating at big time Universities.
  6. I haven't seen a fountain coke in years. The cokes that you purchase at the concession stand are in plastic bottles......usually 20oz.
  7. Actually, I like Dolly's character better. I also liked Tom Skerritt's character. You may or may not know this, but the movie was filmed in Natchitoches, LA (where the author of the play is from).....home of our former SLC rivals Northwestern State. Also they really do have that Christmas river festival that is shown in the movie.
  8. Now THAT'S a great use of stats!
  9. I believe the original question was non-conference rival. Even though none of them will play us on a regular basis, I vote for TCU, SMU and Texas Tech.
  10. Rick, take care of your family first. My prayers are with you.
  11. As a MGC member, I can go to the deck, but unless some of my football friends want me to go there for a beer, it just doesn't interest me. When it comes to game day, I guess my whole point of view is just too "blue collar". I prefer to hang out with the tailgaters and then hang out in the stands. The idea of luxury boxes don't do much for me either. If I wanted to watch a football game in "air conditioned comfort", I'd stay at home and watch it on TV. I guess that I've just spent my whole football watching life in the stands for too long.
  12. Sand-casted by metal technology students on campus in 1959, the original tube was mounted on a tow- behind trailer that had been the rear frame and axle of a Willis army jeep. Looks like your research made it into the"W.E.". With all due respect to the Swartzs', I think that the victory bell should have been mounted on a trailer. When you do that, you can "potentially" take it to some out of town games, and you can also pull it around campus whenever you want to have a spontaneous spirit event. When I went to North Texas games during the 60's I mainly remember the spirit bell. I also remember the cannon, but my strongest memories are of the bell being pulled up and down the track after each score. Even if the bell was on a trailer now, pulling it up and down the track would be very difficult because of all the extra "stuff" in and around the two benches. However (if it was on a trailer), it could be located in front of the student section/band. Also, since the original trailer was the rear frame/axle of a Willis Army Jeep, a restored Willis Jeep would make an excellent "on-campus-game-day" tow vehicle. In any case, I think that a "story board" needs to be made to be displayed by the cannon and bell during game day, so that the casual student can learn about these great North Texas traditions. Because, you see, one of the reasons that the "casual" student remains "casual" is because they think that North Texas doesn't have any traditions. As a tradition, the Bell goes all the way back to the beginnings of the school.
  13. I think the key piece of information here is the base salary of 1mil per year. Academically speaking, UCF obviously didn't start out as "The best Teachers college in Florida".
  14. Keep in mind that Pruitt played with an injured shoulder all of last year. He had surgery and didn't participate in spring practice. Assuming that he is "committed" to his PT, the DT should be at least a little better than last year. If Ike Thomas plays this fall like he did in the spring, then (coupled with a healthy S. Pruitt) the DT position should be significantly better.
  15. Peachy was playing in the OL in the spring.....and he looked good there. Also, Bryan Glass (6'X280, Paris Tx), and Chris Eidd (6'3" X 320, Euless) were mixing it up pretty good out there. I also noticed a Nick Najarro (#64) out there. All I know about him is that he's a transfer. If Ronnie Hull (6'3" X 258) keeps developing at TE, we could have a real player at that position. We also forgot to mention the Kilgore JC transfer Brian Carlson (6'5" X 255) who looked pretty good before he was injured. Blake Burruss (6'7" X 252) also looked pretty good at times playing DE. My take is that we have a pretty good looking group of people that will jell into a pretty good team IF (1) they do their PT and get healthy for the fall, (2) the non-injured ones work on getting stronger (3) everyone takes care of their grades and (4) we avoid excessive injuries during the fall practice. and finally, they must wear their "I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE" t-shirts at all times.
  16. And just as important......what about grades? When will we know for sure about any casualties in that area?
  17. I agree with you in theory. But my observations through the years have been that the players that are committed to a program will stay at that program, and the players who are disgruntled will avail themselves of this rule. The two players that you used in your example are (IMHO) the ones least likely to avail themselves of this new rule. D-1 programs already lose disgruntled players to 1-AA programs anyway.
  18. I want to see the chapter and verse.
  19. As much as we make disparaging remarks about Dennis Parker, one of the first things he did was have the team learn the alma mater, and he would have them gather in front of the band to sing it after every game. I was very impressed with that. I remember that one of the first things that Rick V. did was ban any non-UNT gear being worn by the athletes. You can't imagine how shocked and dismayed I was to hear that North Texas athletes were wearing gear from other schools, in the locker room , while they were getting a RIDE from North Texas . RV was also very much on board with the Talon's project to trade North Texas gear with students who were wearing non-UNT gear on campus. I wonder what happened to that program.
  20. Part of the solution. Renewing my season tickets and MGC membership. I can't understand why someone thinks that not renewing their season tickets will make a statement to the administration. All you're doing is continuing the old tradition that we're most (in)famous for.......apathy. Do like me. If you don't like what's going on, then show up and make the people that you're unhappy with miserable. We may have terrible sight lines at Fouts, but people can still hear you when you yell.....
  21. It is 6/6/06. Do you know where your inner demon is? (Boogah! boogah!)
  22. You know, Dr. Pohl is a "class act", but I wouldn't hire him to coach football here at North Texas.
  23. I was having a conversation last Friday about college football with a young man in my unit. "Jason" is a SMU graduate and he was discussing SMU's prospects for this year.....which he feels are pretty grim. He commented that Phil Bennett needed to have a good year in order to keep his job, and then he commented that "at least Bennett is better than Tom Rossley and the offense that he ran". Jason went on to say "his offense consisted of up-the-middle, up-the-middle, up-the-middle, punt". I just smiled and said "well, obviously the officials at North Texas were much more impressed by that offensive scheme than you were. Otherwise they wouldn't have hired Tom Rossley's offense coordinator away from SMU.....to be our head coach"
  24. Teachers have said for years "dealing with the parents is more difficult than dealing with the kids."
  25. I found my copy of the 1990 UNT/SMU game. I sat down and watched it and I was shocked. Between the time that Scott Davis surgically picked apart the 1988 Texas team with his passing and the 1990 SMU game, something terrible went wrong. Scott's passes in the SMU game were mostly lame ducks, and the best pass he could throw was a "dump" to a receiver over the middle. Can someone fill me in as to what happened to his arm? Also, I noticed a young WR/Punt returner playing in the game. I believe his name was G Matthews and he was wearing #41. BTW, what ever happened to the running back named Blowers #20, who was sharing the backfield with Pegram that night?
