  1. I don't understand. Someone is saying that this is a pro-bowl caliber player. Yet the only school that stepped forward (before us) to offer him a ship was Chandron State? What am I missing?
  2. Going from HS to almost coaching in the pros. Hmmmm, this potentially puts the Dennis Parker hiring in a slightly different light. Back to Dodge. This guy is obviously ambitious and confident in his abilities. Who knows where he'll apply next.
  3. That's the funniest thing I've read in a looooong time. This is the perfect example of what I (and possibly Emmitt) are talking about. And again (having said all that, and taken a shot at the hiring practices of the current athletic department), I wish this young man well.
  4. You just described my perfect hire to a "T"....or should I say "NT".
  5. Well he can study OU tradition all he wants, but that doesn't have anything to do with North Texas history. The most obvious difference is that OU is only one of three major Universities in Oklahoma. And they have always been the 800lb Gorilla......in everything. THAT'S what I'm talking about in reference to (potential) culture shock. Having said that, I wish him well.
  6. On another little side note, I noticed that the #95 was not assigned, even though there were about five or six duplicate numbers. Could there be some merit to the rumor that Big Cat has/might again qualified/qualify? (Yes, I realize that his old number was 94, but maybe he wanted to change). Now there's a happy and hopeful thought that I'll be glad to join you in.
  7. Hmmm, is this a new position, or is it a consolidation of more than one position? I think that it's great that they hired a young energetic person, who's obviously a real over achiever (academic all-Big 12 and most inspirational player). However, this young man has operated in a football culture where people are standing in line to participate. Just a guess, but when you're doing fund raising at OU, you're basically going to people who've been donating millions a year and asking them to donate a few million more for the "next big project". I hope North Texas isn't too much of a culture shock for this young man. And, at the risk of sounding too provincial (business wise), don't we ever have any young energetic North Texas graduates who want to work for the Athletic Department?
  8. I saw that in the ST yesterday. Is Jim McInvale's 1 million donation the largest single donation that our athletic department has ever received?
  9. That is true, but we seldom have the luxury of losing a starter to grades. Because, unlike the UT's and OU's of the world, our talent level (with some exceptions) drops off dramatically after you get past our starters. And until we get better recruiters/evaluators of talent on staff, these situations (assuming that this even is a situation) will always hit us hard. Now, as to whether or not this is a situation. When someone doesn't appear on the roster, and that person should be a starter, AND when the SID makes guarded statements about the situation,.......I'm very concerned.
  10. Well, that explains the very noticable weight loss. To echo the comment that DeepGreen made about his 90+ year old father who has diabetes, my Grandfather lived to be about 93 and he had diabetes as well. It's very managable.
  11. Our very own Ramon.
  12. I wasn't think of transfer/quitting. Mainly because that almost never happens with a projected starter. I was thinking more along the lines of the Academic issue, and/or the distinct possibiliy that it was an editing mistake in making up the list.
  13. This has been the biggest weakness of the University of North Texas. Every department thinks that their department is the most important. They're used to going their own way, and they're used to creating their own unique "identity"....which may or may not (mostly may not) include the official branding/logo/colors of the University. I've often compared North Texas, and all it's various departments, to the family in the movie/play "You can't take it with you". The main difference however, is that in the movie/play everyone likes and respects one another.......but not at North Texas.
  14. I'm not sure why you think that having the GMG guys giving us a write up/evaluation of every position for this years team is "High School-like". Personally I don't care much for the pre-masticated releases/evaluations that most SID's put out.
  15. Have they forsaken Voertmans?
  16. Well, as I've said before, whenever I start making preparations to go to a Texas and/or Oklahoma game, my wife offers (as a more economical and time-effecient alternative) to beat me with barbed wire. Maybe being a North Texas fan is kind of like being Brother Silas (of the DaVinci code)
  17. A starter on one list. Missing from another. There are two possibilities here. Would any of us be surprised about either one?
  18. If you think my remark had anything to do with a short temper, then you're entirely too sensitive. But then, as I've found out.....so are some coaches.
  19. I've often wondered. Were they afraid of us......or what Hayden Fry might have been able to do with us.
  20. I always thought that the "red shoulder" or "red tail" Hawk would have made a more appropriate mascot for UNT since they are indigenous to the North Texas area. Warhawk? Can you imagine what those people who changed our mascot's name from Scrappy to "Eppy" would have thought about this? BTW, thanks again to those who "righted" that great wrong done to our mascot (changing it's name back to "Scrappy" after being given the effeminate name Eppy).
  21. Oh good! More cool stuff to put on our "when-hell-freezes-over" shopping list. ......
  22. Are you sure about the UT amount? Because unless my math is wrong, we could (in theory) get some 1-AA program to open at Fouts. And if we drew 16K reserved seats @ $18, we would make 288,000 just from the gate. If we did some decent promotions, we could get 18K to 20K and get $324,00 and $360,000 respectively (gross) from the gate.
  23. No, I got the attempt at sarcasm. But, for it to be more effective, you have to be making reference to two real and/or similar events. UTEP's movie was about a real event, "Necessary Roughness" was not. It was shot on our campus. They used our colors, but they didn't even use our real name in their fictional story (Glory Road was about a real event). How could we have blown that opportunity for publicity for our program (the point of the sarcasm), when there wasn't one in the first place.
  24. It was only shot on the North Texas campus. It wasn't about us.
