I think when he was OC at A$M he was asked if he would be interested in the NT job, and he said no thanks.

What do you listen to while in your car ?

KLUV 98.7 most of the time. KZPS 92.5 classic rock the rest. -
The last time we signed a "name" coach was Hayden Fry. It has been pointed out that we got him because we payed him two salaries AD & HC. In order to do something similar again, we would have to fire RV and give Hank Dickinson more administrative duties....including fund-raising....and take him out of the booth. Now, if we were going to do something like that, then I would advocate firing both RV and Hank, pay some promising radio/tv intern to do the color commentary with GD, and then hire Jim Hobdy to be the athletic director. ....or (I like this better), keep RV, fire Hank Dickinson, hire the aforementioned intern, and then hire Jim Hobdy to be assistant AD in charge of promotions and fund raising. With Jim, we would get much more bang for our buck as far as promotions and fund raising goes. OR, we can learn the lessons of having Hayden Fry as our coach and hire an up-and-coming coach just like him, for a bargain price. You know, someone with a lot of fire, people skills, and someone who is not afraid of sending out a long bomb pass play to the QB, when we are back up on our own one yard line. This coach will quickly be hired away from us. But if we are smart, (past history says that that is a big IF) we will already have his replacement in mind, and insert the "next Hayden Fry-type" coach into the position and keep going. We could even make money on this. We could build in a very profitable buy-out clause for the school, so that the University will have more money to offer the next up-and-coming "Hayden Fry".

.....AND finished with a winning record (6-5).

We're talking about ten years, so "how many times they change the logo/brand/mascot/name" would be the question.
-
Well then, here's the solution to our problem. Let's re-assign Dickey to some administrative job, and move the Women's soccer coach over to coach the football team.

I'll take one.....size XX please.

Isn't this a day early for a Halloween joke? At least I hope it's a joke......

Will DD get fired at the end of the season
SilverEagle replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
I think that Evans (for his ability to recruit) and Bliel (for the excellent work he's done with the defense in such a short amount of time), as well as Ramone Archie, and Andy Brewster should stay. The main coach to replace would be the OC. Let's suppose that we're told that a search for a promising OC is going to take place. What promising OC would come here and work under the conditions that we all know exist. Everything would have to be approved by Dickey, and DD is not going to approve the kind of offense that we all want to see installed. He'd be vetoing 95% of what a new OC would be sending down to go out to the QB. I repeat, no promising OC would work under those conditions. -
I hope to 1 day read a article similar to this one

Hmmmm, sounds like Stockstill is saying.. I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE! -
Even when DD's offense was working at it's best, it mainly worked against SBC teams. We've known since our first bowl game against Colorado State how effective it was against the rest of the world.

And the price for that was to keep DD. The cost in bad publicity is probably much more than 1 mil. -

Personally, I would love to interview the real people involved in DD still being here. I would love to have Bobby Ray and Jim McEnvale (sp?) in a room at the same time and ask them what in the hell they were (or are) thinking? I might also ask them what color the sky is in their world. -
This is OUR SCHOOL FOLKS. Here's an idea. Why don't we all show up to the LaTech game with grocery bags over our heads like Deep's avatar. We could decorate them to express out displeasure with the coaching. I'm not willing to just hand my school's athletic fate over to non-North Texas people who will just dismiss our absence by saying....."well, those guys are just a bunch of quitters anyway....who cares about them or their opinion" OR they might say "well, they're just a bunch of typical North Texas fair weather fans....who cares if they dont' show up". DO LIKE ME. SHOW UP AND VOICE YOUR DISPLEASURE (CAN YOU SAY "WE'RE GETTING OUT-COACHED? ). DON'T BOO, BECAUSE THAT WILL BE CONSTRUED AS BOOING THE PLAYERS, AND THEN YOU'LL LOSE CREDIBILITY THAT WAY.

Could this be a kicker prospect for NT? Boswell 31, Springtown 28 FG lifts Boswell as time expires By NAKIA HOGAN Star-Telegram Staff Writer SPECIAL TO THE STAR-TELEGRAM/BOB HAYNES SPRINGTOWN -- Greg Lopez's legs felt like spaghetti. His heart threatened to beat right out of his jersey. He tried to suck in one more gasp of air, but a lump grew in his throat. As the Boswell senior kicker lined up for a career-long 48-yard field-goal attempt, he had never been so uneasy. After his kick sailed just over the crossbar, he had never felt so good. Lopez's kick as time expired lifted the Pioneers to a pivotal 31-28 District 6-4A victory over Springtown onj Friday night at Porcupine Stadium. "I have never been so nervous before in my life," he said moments after being mobbed by his teammates. "But as soon as I hit it, I knew it was good." Kicking a 48 yrd FG under intense pressure sounds pretty impressive to me. The new coaching staff ought to look at this young man.

I like all the suggestions with Texas ties. I don't like the So Miss crony suggestion.

When I first registered for classes at North Texas (part-time student, Jan of 73) North Texas had just finished a 1-10 year, the Football program had just dodged a bullet because there had been a student referendum over keeping football or not (it barely passed), and Hayden Fry was hired as the new coach. The roller coaster ride since then has been.....interesting. But I'll take a roller coaster ride over this funeral dirge we've been marching to.

To me, that is absolutely sickening. -
You know, I've often wondered how many copies of that book were sold.

Excellent point Zeke! No cronyism in the next big hire!

Some of Corky Nelson's teams would have been better.........."better coached" anyway. I wouldn't say that our 26 straight conference wins was the "tastiest turd sandwich on the table", but I have referred to those days as being "King of the dipshits". -
I think that RV went along with the contract extension, but I don't believe that he was in favor of it. I've said for quite some time that hiring and firing a coach was the job of the AD. If the BOR didn't trust RV's opinion on the matter, then they shouldn't have hired RV to be the AD. RV has got some tough times ahead of him. If he is able to get rid of, or re-assign DD, then he gets to make one of the biggest coaching decisions of his career. I certainly hope that that decision isn't another of the crony-like hirings that he's make up to this point. A fresh look RV! No more hires with Southern Miss/LSU/TCU ties.

College fundraising goals pass the $4 billion mark

WOW, the news just keeps getting better and better every day. -
Okay folks, if there are still some people on (or lurkers reading) this board that are still not sure that our football program is in trouble, then I present this post by GEO as the "canary in the coal mine". (in case some of you don't know what that means, here is a link). http://www.petcaretips.net/canary-coal-mine.html I would also include the post by drex as furthur evidence that something is seriously wrong with the football program. I strongly suggest that RV and the other "powers that be" take notice.

I thought the insurance comment was very......factual. I saw nothing in Eagle man's comments that were particularly disrespectful. Yes, Dickey almost died, but that doesn't change anyone's feelings about the need for him to move on. The problem is that now that he's had a heart attack at such a young age, there might be a reluctance for someone to re-hire him. In the event that he's still functioning as head coach after the end of the season, then I feel absolutely sure that our rivals will use his questionable health against him, when they go after a recruit that we have been talking with. If you think anyone on this board is being disrespectful to Dickey now, just hang around and see what happens to him during the dog-eat-dog recruitment season. His own peers will have a field day with his health situation.
