  1. Knew about NT from attending homecoming games with my HS band, and from the teachers in my HS, who either got their BS and/or MS from North Texas. Wasn't interesting in any other school.
  2. I was watching David Letterman the other night and he was talking about President Bush replacing "Rummie" with Dr. Gates, who used to work under the Sr. Bush. Letterman said, "This is part of the Bush administration's policy of "no crony being left behind". Are you listening RV?
  3. Dunham interviewed Lance White during half time. LW gave a great interview. When asked what his fondest memories were at NT, he talked about all the games where they competed with the "big boys" and beat TCU......with a team that had only 65 ships! I remember that TCU game very well. Lance White was responsible for many of the fumbles that TCU committed that day because he went out and knocked the $hit out of em'. He was also part of a football culture who's un-spoken motto was.. WE DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE![/B] He also asked all ex-lettermen out there to come back to North Texas and participate in the game day experience.
  4. Leave it to UNT to.... A. borrow someone else's motto and B. borrow one that is open to several interpretations.
  5. I'm not bitter at Dickey, nor have I ever been. Dickey is who he is. He just should have moved on somewhere around 2001. RV should have, (or should have been allowed to) pull the trigger back in 2001. My bitterness is toward the University administrators and all of the dumb-ass hiring SNAFUS they've produced in the last 26 years. When Hayden Fry left, he recommended that Bill Brasher be hired as his replacement. That would have provided us with an extremely competent coach and much needed stability. Instead the administrators of that time (many of whom were Fry haters) said in a very dismissive tone "we'll take it under advisement". Brasher was insulted and joined Fry at Iowa. The rest is history......for Iowa anyway. Since then, it's just been one friggin disaster after another. The only competent hire we've made since Fry left was Corky Nelson. And the University never game him the resources that he needed to take us back to D-1......which he could have done without any problems.
  6. The title of this thread (the Keep chopping part) puts me in mind of something. I have always sought a definitive interpretation of UNT's latin motto....Eundo Crescit. I was once told by a professor in the education dept. that our motto "Eundo Crescit" translates into todays vernacular as "Keep on Keep'in on". I have looked on the University's official web-site and cannot find ANY reference to our Latin Motto and what it "officially" means. (Isn't that typical of our University). Could someone please.... ...correct my spelling of the latin phrase if it's incorrect ....give the english interpretation of the University latin phrase/motto Cerebus?
  7. AMEN! You need to have a coach that has Texas ties and knows what the challenges are at North Texas. One of the things that seemed very clear about DD was that he couldn't believe the anti-athletic culture that exsisted here at North Texas. Instead of going about trying to change those attitudes, he got surley and made snide and sarcastic remarks about it. You can't explain the North Texas athletic culture to someone from out of Texas. Everyone in America thinks that EVERY SCHOOL in Texas is football crazy....that isn't the case with North Texas. Hayden Fry recognized this and went about changing attitudes, by giving speeches to anyone in the community that would give him a chance AND by winning games. There are several coaches with Texas ties, and one with North Texas ties, that would have a much better understanding of the CHALLENGES that North Texas presents. PLEASE RV, DON'T MAKE A CRONY HIRE!
  8. People complain about Darrell's non-conference record, but they sent him to play Texas and Oklahoma every year." I think the losses to South Florida (when it was a very new program), Florida Atlantic, Air Force, etc were the ones that were more telling and of more concern. "It's hard to go hunting elephants with a B.B. gun every season," said McIngvale, who pointed to UNT's lack of resources as a reason for the Mean Green's struggles in non-conference play. So he's going to take MORE resources from us? You just lost your moral high ground Mr. McIngvale. "His performance in that situation and his championing of the University of North Texas and the whole Denton area should have been taken into account." And, in what Universe did that take place? I wonder what color the sky is in Jim McIngvale's world.
  9. Don't go brain dead on us RV. Don't hire another crony. Hire someone with strong Texas ties, who can put a good product on the field, and who already has connections with Texas HS coaches.
  10. Todd Dodge has had most of his success as the SLC coach. He has had total control of the system. He has never had to recruit. People move to the SLC school district so that their children can get a great education as well as play in his system. SLC's tradition of fan support (and winning) was in place years before Coach Dodge arrived, so he's never had to build fan support.
  11. OK, there's blasphemy, and then there's.......... BLASPHEMY!
  12. and motivate the players and motivate the fans and motivate the alumni who actually have some money to donate.
  13. The "stuff" I was talking about was the socializing that George mentioned that went on between him and the Dickey family. That is what compromises his professional opinion.
  14. A bold statement considering that North Texas students/alumni pretty much invented crazy.
  15. And now they're beating up on us. We used to be King of the Dip$hit$....now we're not even that.
  16. When you do stuff like that it compromises your status as a professional. When that happens, people quit listening to you, and respecting your opinion. We need all the respect in the sports community that we can get.
  17. Bruce Chambers. Good grief, I didn't know he's been out there coaching. He was one of Jordan Case's favorite targets in 78 and 79. Here is the summary of him that was printed in the 78 North Texas football guide. BRUCE CHAMBERS, 5'-8", 142, junior wide receiver., Dallas (Carter, Coach Jack Keck). Bruce Edward Chambers, born 12-2-57 in Ennis TX, Industrial Management Major. Started eight games at split end last season (77) while sharing game time with Charlie Murry. Moved in sping to No. 1 flanker. Caught 16 passes for 199 yards, a 12.4 average per catch. Led team in kickoff returns with 9 for 148 yards. Also had 4 punt returns for 32 yards. Lettered in 76 as a freshman and caught four passes. Primarily a defensive back in high school (so was the late and great Bernard Jackson). Won district and metro honors and was defensive player of the year in Dist. 12-4-A. Cleared 23 feet in the long jump. (coach Fry's comment/assessment) "Excellent speed and jumping ability. Potential game breaker". This guy was recruited by Fry and played three years under him. He personally saw how Coach Fry turned things around at North Texas. He qualifies under one of my major criteria for a HC at North Texas. KNOWING WHAT HE'S GETTING HIMSELF INTO. Does anyone know what kind of public speaker/motivator Coach Chambers is? here is the link to his bio on the Texas site. http://www.mackbrown-texasfootball.com/ind...hange_well_id=2
  18. brutal.....but efficient.......
  19. ...as if it took rocket science to figure out DD's offense and then shut it down. They recruited better athletes than us, and then used them effectively. I'm more impressed with DeLoach than the defensive coaches at So. Miss.
  20. You know, all along I've not wanted DD to be fired. I've wanted him to do the right thing for himself and his family, and resign and move on. Failing that, my choice would have been for RV and Dr. B, to have met with Coach Dickey and explain that he can either resign or be fired. Resigning would have been a much better situation.....unless his contract calls for more compensation if he's fired. I just want this to be behind us as soon as possible, and it's extremely hard to do that when you have a fired coach who is still walking the sidelines for the remainder of the season. Overall this makes the University Administrators look......less than competent.
  21. You're a North Texas graduate and you've never seen, or have been exposed to, something weird?
  22. Committe's have given us.. Dennis Parker a name change for our mascot (from Scrappy to the effeminate Eppy...thank you Stebo and co. for rectifying that situation) Crony-like decisions have given us Darryll Dickey.....and Mandy McKinley. Let's have this hiring process open and competitive. No So. Miss. cronies!
  23. A long time ago, I heard that George Dunham was responsible and/or involved in Bill Mercer being fired as play by play man for North Texas. If there is any part of that rumor that is true (and I don't mean being a better broadcaster either....because George isn't/wasn't), then I agree that George can get fired as well.
  24. "I am extremely disappointed," senior wide receiver Johnny Quinn said. "Coach has always been there for me and believed in me" .. really? Is that why K-Mart had to lobby for you to get a ship at North Texas? . ... He has better things he can move on to." ...that's been the case since he arrived here. Why didn't he moved on to "better things" a long time ago. Or better still, why hasn't someone come along and hired him away from us?
  25. You have got to have better blocking before even the best QB in the country can be effective. We have probably the two fastest QB's in North Texas history in DM and WW. WW's speed took SMU by surprise, but not Tulsa and the rest of our opponents. As a result WW has spent all of his playing time trying to run for his life. DM has done pretty much the same thing. We have to have better blocking, and a better offensive plan, before our QB's can be more effective. We have to have coaches (and coaching) that players will respond to.....and that players respect.
