  1. Well, just keep in mind that even a DD-coached team got into a tight game with OU in 2001 (10-37). I was in attendance, and that game was pretty tight until the fourth quarter. I'm not saying that we are going to beat OU next year, but what I'm looking forward to is a coach who, at the very least, is going to take his team up to Norman with the attitude of........ I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE! OR possibly this attitude. IF OU THINKS THEY ARE GOING TO BEAT US, THEY BETTER BRING THIER SUPPER, BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO TAKE THEM ALL EVENING. This is all that I have ever ask for in a coach. When you always show up with that attitude, everything else takes care of itself.
  2. The #1 order of business has already been done. And that is having a press conference and letting all the North Texas faithful (and those who want to be faithful, but were afraid to) know that he is committed to getting this school back on track, and letting people know that North Texas is a University that everyone should be proud of. He also let everyone know that he is truely glad to have the job, and be given the opportunity (and challenge) of helping us reach our full potential. With that in place, the stadium issue will take care of itself.
  3. Uhhh, I think that Even Robertson proved that he could make a play or two this last season.
  4. The closest that North Texas ever came to living up to it's "attendance potential" relative to it's student population and NCAA status was in the late 80's when we were 1-AA. Our student population was approaching 19K or 20K, and we had our first sell-out against SFA! We followed that up in 1990 with a SRO game (22,750) against SMU at Fouts. In both cases, Fouts was at it's original capacity of 20,500. What was going on at that time was a great and entertaining football team to watch, and great promotions. We also had a coach that NEVER dissed the administration or the fans, and never moaned and complained about his situation at North Texas. Through the (corridor of) years, our worst enemy regarding our football program has been our visionless, and I might add clueless, administrators who made the decisions about hiring the coaches and (not) promoting the sport.
  5. wrong end......
  6. Emmitt is in section E. I'm in Section D, row 14, seats 29 & 30.
  7. How many think that there would be a three page thread on the TCU board about our new hire, if we'd hired Mickey Matthews......or even Jay Norvell.
  8. I'm in for $50.00.......and free labor.
  9. I agree with this.
  10. 200K before incentives would more than double his base salary at SLC. I tend to doubt the 500K amount.
  11. YEAH, MY DODGE HAS A HEMI.
  12. Zach's dad confirmed to me that his redshirt has been approved. It's just a matter of Zach deciding what he wants to do. I'll repeat what Rick said. ZACH!, THE TEAM NEEDS YOUR LEADERSHIP! COME BACK.
  13. I am. He's been coaching for 20 years and none if it has been as a head coach? Why not? You can't wait for just the right situation. If you're head coach material, then you jump in and become a head coach "somewhere". He should have been the head coach somewhere along the line, instead of being an assistant, or position coach. The people that I'm impressed with are the ones who know how to lead (teams and fans) and are confident enough in their abilities to do so the first chance that they got....regardless of the size of the school. Carthel, Dodge, and Harbaugh are my favorites.
  14. Ahhhh, such a pragmatist....and "bottom-line" business man.
  15. BTW, the check's in the mail. style_emoticons/
  16. To be fair, if DD's players had publically said the same thing, wouldn't we be hollering about his "bunker mentality"? I think that Harry (and others) have mentioned that North Texas fans had much more access to the North Texas football team (and it's practices) than just about any other D-1 football (and many HS) programs. So IF Coach Dodge is hired as our next HC, get ready to have much less access than we've ever had before.
  17. If we hire coach Dodge as our next HC, I wonder if that would give us any sort of advantage in recruiting Kyle McDonald at Haltom (assuming that he's D-1 material). Isn't Clayton George (the HC at Haltom) a friend of Coach Dodge?
  18. I took it upon myself to send Don Carthel (at his WTA&M address) an e-mail on Tuesday Nov. 28th, asking him if he had been contacted about the UNT job. I figured that he would either give me a neutral answer, or a "no comment". Here is his answer on Dec. 4th. Bill, I would love to talk to your athletic director if they are interested in me. Thanks, Don Carthel So, either someone is answering his e-mails that doesn't know what they're talking about, or he hasn't been contacted about the job. Of course his e-mail didn't indicate if he had initiated contact either. But if he had, he hadn't received a response as of Dec. 4th.
  19. "Bill Maskill of Midwestern State expressed interest in the UNT job and has also applied at SFA as has West Texas A&M coach Don Carthel, who was mentioned as a possible candidate at UNT early on." Other than board members, who has ever mentioned Don Carthel as a possible candidate? As of Dec. 4th, Don Carthel had not been contacted by the North Texas athletic dept.
  20. DALLAS IS GETTING OUT-COACHED!
  21. 1. TCU 2. Baylor 3. Air Force All three will bring a big crowd, and we will be assured of a sell-out. Also, TCU and Baylor could bring their bands and we could have a REAL college footall atmosphere.
  22. I tend to think that four years would be the ideal contract term.
  23. I would keep Evans, Bliel, and Brewster.....and Hurd.
  24. Dickey bashing. I already live without the Bachelor.
