Why can't you do both?

Here is the link to the info in the athletic dept. web-site. http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...amp;SPSID=37327 I keep asking if anyone went to the tryouts, but I guess there wasn't a gomeangreen representative there.

Is this young man still in HS, or did he show up to the walk-on try-outs earlier this week.

I guess this is as good a place as any to post what my fantasy would be about Todd Dodge coming to North Texas. I find this situation similar to the one that Florida State was in back in the mid-70's. Here is an excerpt from Bobby Bowden's bio on the FSU athletic web-site. "Bowden's remarkable career numbers are even more impressive considering the fact that he took over an FSU program in 1976 that had won just four games over the previous three seasons. He has remained at FSU despite offers from NFL teams and several other prestigious college football programs. Bowden's loyalty has meant the world to Florida State University and its athletics program." It's been posted many times in the recent past that when Bobby Bowden took over at Florida State their program was very lightly regarded. Proof of that is the fact that in Bobby Bowden's first year, they came to Fouts field to play us at our homecoming game. It is my hope that Todd Dodge becomes the coach that everyone hopes he can be. If that happens, it is also my hope (and I guess my fantasy) that he decides to make North Texas the next Florida State and stay here to be the coach that all subsequent coaches at North Texas will be compared to. Instead of being the next great coach in a long line of other great coaches at some other prestigious program. But in order for that to happen, we have to be the fans that I hope we can be. Neither Coach Dodge nor RV can do it for us.

This reminds me. Did anyone show up to watch the walk-on try-outs Tuesday? As I recall the try-outs were supposed to be on Feb 20th.

Rumors Laid To Rest Via Hank Dickeson
SilverEagle replied to MeanGreengdub's topic in Mean Green Football
After finally figuring out how to view the TxDot illustration, it appears that the service road will take out most (if not all) of the SW parking area of Fouts and a good bit of the parking directly behind the press box....if you figure in the space that a retaining will will take up. So while the TxDOT plans do not take out Fouts, it certainly renders it much less accessable and makes going to games there much less convenient. -

I don't know what you guys are talking about. There was nothing discernable on that link. -

Thanks for the link. The illustration that comes up looks like abstract art........and very bad abstract art at that. -

This reminds me. Doesn't TDOT have plans to take part of Fouts as part their expansion of I-35? As I recall, isn't the time frame for those plans some where around 2010? Is that still an accurate date? Does anyone have accurate information as to how much of Fouts (or the Fouts property) they are planning to take? -
Quick Apology To Current And Former Talons

Since most students at North Texas are generally regarded (by the outside world anyway) as "non-traditional", what is your definition of non-traditional. -
Have Great Idea--don't Post It On Gmg.com
SilverEagle replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Todd Dodge cannot do it all. Promotions-wise, he's done enough, and now he needs to concentrate on doing what he does best.......coach/teach. The rest is up to the Athletic Dept. and the Alumni. We had all better STEP UP. -
An Idea To Increase Attendence And Reconnect Alums
SilverEagle replied to SCREAMING EAGLE-66's topic in Mean Green Football
For years I've suspected that this was the case. Especially considering the level of spirit participation (or the lack thereof) by most of the GB members....most notably before the newest director took over. Through the decades of going to North Texas games, I've always pointed with pride to the Green Brigade who had no peers as a musical organization. Unfortunately (and especially during the Dr. Winslow era) they had no school spirit either. Maybe inviting a High School band to one of the games would be the best idea. -
This group didn't embrace moral victories, only real ones. You mean to tell me that the new attitude on the football team will be....... I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE Imagine that.

Unless something has happened that I don't know about, we also have Esteban Santiago who I assume was redshirted last year. If he is still going to play defense, then we have a 6'5" X 275 player to add to the DL.

Are you talking about Prince, who transferred from Kilgore?

At the signing day news conference, Coach Dodge said that the RB in his system must be able to run, block, and catch. He said that Micah Mosely could do all three very well. And since they recruited Mr. Motgomery to come here I assume the same thing about him. We know that Ja-Mo can run. And I've seen him catch a few times. But what about blocking?
-
I vote for Mr. Meager (Daniel,... not his dad). I'm basing this on the flashes of great play that I've seen from Daniel, and my confidence that Coach Dodge can coach/teach Daniel to reach his full potential. Nathan Tune will be his toughest competition......a competition that could last right up to the week of the OU game.

To me the quality of the Green Brigade halftime shows has never been in question. What I have always questioned is the Band not taking primary responsibility for promoting spirit during the games. This was especially true during the Dr. Winslow era. In the last three or four years there has been a noticable change by the Band in that regard. The Band now regards itself as an integral and essential part of the game day experience. Way to go guys!

It's been reported several times that before Rice hired Coach Graham last year, they contacted Coach Dodge about the job and he said "no thank you".

The only D-1 University in Texas. Notre Dame once hired a successful HS coach. Correction. We were not a D-1 school when we hired Parker, we were 1-AA. But I believe that we are the only school in Texas to hire a HS coach as our head coach. Art Briles had only been coaching in College for two years before he was hired as the head coach at Houston.

This reminds me of a story that I've told before about Hayden Fry, and what a great PR guy he was. I was still in college and was sitting in my car at the stop light on University by where Luby's used to be. While I was waiting for the light to change, I looked over to my right, and who should be sitting in his car next to me, but Hayden Fry. He turned and looked at me and I gave him a friendly wave. I detected a slight look of puzzlement on his face for just a split second, before he broke out in a big smile and waved back as if we had been friends for 20 years or so. His whole facial expression said "well, hello there Bill!" We had never met, and he had no earthly idea who I was, but that didn't matter. He was always working the crowd. As I drove off, I just shook my head and thought "Hayden, you are one hell of a salesman". BUT that was what North Texas needed at that time in order to get the program moving forward. Because the coach that Hayden replaced (Rod Rust) was the only coach that I can remember at North Texas who had less personality than DD. illuvius, I think that Coach Dodge was genuinely interested in making a connection with a North Texas alumni/fan. As a teacher/coach/salesman, it's just second nature to him. Like I've said before. This is our second chance at having a "Hayden Fry-type" coach come here and re-energize our program. I hope we don't blow it this time like we did with Hayden.

Please Post Highlights From Td's News Conference Or The Town Hall

He also mentioned the Jr. College RB that was on campus. He said that he wanted to sign two RB's because the current two on the team were going to be seniors this year. That obviously leaves out Evan Robertson. He mentioned that there were several walk-ons on campus who would be getting a lot of "reps" during the spring. That should be an interesting group. -

mine went blank, and when I went back the link was gone. So, I guess it's over. -
I agree. I've never seen this many all-state and/or high achieving football players signed in one year at North Texas. A solid A or A+ as far as I'm concerned.
