  1. Depending on where the station was in Denton, it definitely would help. I would also like to see a rail line coming out of Fort Worth and going to Denton. Right now, the closest thing we have is AMTRAK going from downtown FW to Oklahoma city. It travels over the rail line that goes through Haslett, Justin, Ponder, Krum, and Sanger before it stops in Gainesville on it's way to Okla City. BTW, one of the stops on this route is Norman Ok. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServe...96&ssid=137
  2. Ever since Todd Dodge arrived at North Texas in December, Brandon Jackson has spent a lot of time talking about his new coach – frequently with people he doesn't even know. When was the last time that anyone ever heard of a player "talking up" the program to the general public. To me, this sort of attitude is worth as much as a win over a mid-major school.
  3. My strongest condolences to the family of your fellow fallen officer. "To Protect and Serve" is more than just a slogan, it's a commitment at the highest level. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
  4. If this doesn't work then nothing will.
  5. Yes, I believe that I can. I think that if HRC had suggested (which of course she did not) that Haliburton would be the perfect contractor to make her universal day-care-pre-school comment/suggestion come to fruition, then it would have caused every Republican out there to get very sexually aroused. at the thought of how much Haliburton would be screwing the general public......especially Dick Cheny.
  6. On behalf of Lera. Please don't encourage him Jack!
  7. First off, HRC should quit wasting her time running for President. For whatever reason she's too devisive. Every problem is once again a dishonest and prejudicial assessment of just one of her ideas. Since the word compulsory was not used in the sentence that you sited from her book, what part of that idea did you find so threatening? Maybe if she added "and I think that contracting this program out to Haliburton would be the most ideal and most cost effective way to bring it to fruition" would have made it more palatable to the Republicans. BTW, I don't play so fast and loose with the term friend. BTW (2), it's my opinion that Todd Dodge and Hillary Rodham-Clinton used the phrase "it takes a village" in exactly the same way. Which (IMHO) does bring us back on track.
  8. I would like to hear a direct quote from her that corroborates this (in my opinion) dishonest spin on her use of this very apt African proverb.
  9. the attitude that it takes a village to raise a child and the trust that we all put in one another to successfully raise our children.” OHMYGOD! He used a phrase that Hillary Clinton has also liberally (double-entendre intended) used. Gee, what are all you Hillary Haters/Todd Dodge lovers going to do now.......
  10. According to the press guide, he only lettered one year.. 1971. The Rev. Tommy Nelson ('73) of Denton, founding pastor of Denton Bible Church. Nelson received his bachelor of science degree in physical education and was a quarterback for the Eagles. The chaplain of the team from 1991 to 1993, Nelson was also a member of the 1990 search committee to find a new coach. He is a strong supporter of the UNT chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and ministers to UNT students through the college program at Denton Bible Church, which he founded in 1977. Since that time, the church has grown from 100 members to about 4,000 members. Nelson became well known in 1991 for his Song of Solomon seminars on relationships and marriage. He is also the author of The Big Picture and The Book of Romance and a national speaker for Campus Crusade for Christ and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. So we can partially blame him for hiring Dennis Parker instead of Paul Johnson.
  11. Hopefully the drills mentioned above will sort out the "unfocused" or "abandon ship!" QB's by the end of spring practice.
  12. This is very interesting, because one of the things that I've always looked for in a QB is a "presence" or "confidence" in the pocket. To me, one of the main indicators of "presence" and "confidence" was when the QB seems oblivious to the fray going on around him while he was focusing on identifying his receivers and completing (or attempting to complete) his pass. The natural QB's ignore the fray and only move enough to get out of the way and complete their task. In doing that, they're using their peripheral vision to help them avoid the rush. During that whole time they're never actually looking at the rush, they're keeping their focus on their goal. These QB's are often still looking down field at a target while they are being tackled/sacked. Their whole body language conveys focus and confidence. The no-so-natural QB's change their focus to the rush and get happy feet. Their whole body language says "holy $hit! I've got to get out of here!...abandon ship! abandon ship!. It'll be interesting to see how well this drill/technique works. Because if a QB's natural inclination is to get "happy feet" when someone is within a few yards of him, then it's going to take a lot of drills to change that.
  13. And this young man was one of the better players for the defense in the last three years. Imagine how he'll do now that he's inspired.
  14. Plano's football tradition started long before it became a city of 275K. My HS (Decatur) used to play Plano in the 60's when Plano had already established it's football tradition while it was a small farming community. Everyone who came to Plano afterward embraced that tradition, and/or they were drawn to Plano because of that tradition. The same thing applies to South Lake Carrol. They established their winning tradition as a small 1-A (the same as present day 2-A) program and it continued unchanged as they moved up in classification. Again, people who wanted to have their kids go to a school with a winning tradition were drawn to South Lake.
  15. Deep wasn't suggesting that our cheerleaders visit the local elementary schools. He was pointing out that (at least in his area) school spirit was something that started very early. So, if the majority of the freshman who come here convey to the orientation people that they think the whole spirit thing is "gay", then they must have had the same attitude in HS.....and it was probably deeply entrenched. BTW, one school that I can think of that had a losing record but no lack of people that wanted to go to school there was A$M during most of the 60's. Yes they won the SWC in 67, but the rest of the time they were the butt of everyone's jokes. Yet, people still wanted to go there. And my guess is that the people that wanted to go there during the 60's (and most other times for that matter) were the ones who were involved in their HS organizations and spirit groups.
  16. I've often wondered if the HS students who wanted a more "school-spirit-rah-rah" atmosphere avoided going to NT for the very reason that we are having this thread in the first place. If that is the case, then what this school (in particular the spirit organizations) is left to work with is mostly a group of new students who were the disenfranchised at their respective High Schools.
  17. Here we are in 2007 talking about the same issue that has been going on since the early 70's. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I agree that a positive attitude is the only way that it's going to get resolved. Consistency is the other issue. This University (and by that I mean the alumni as well) is rarely consistent in instilling and promoting spirit at North Texas. I'm open to hearing positive and constructive ideas. We're already pretty overstocked with sarcastic ideas. That seems to be the only thing we're consistent about.
  18. Well, let's see. I believe it will be out of the shotgun, and it will be whatever the QB reads that the defense is giving him. Having said that, it could very well be a bomb if the defense is cheating up to stop the run and/or mid-range pass.
  19. I forgot how funny those people could be about setting policy. Are they saying that they would not give out an extra parking pass or two to someone who had just made a $10,000 MGC donation? You know, if someone has turned loose of that kind of money, I would not have a problem with them having a parking space for every $1000 of their donation. Besides, the last time I was in the orange parking lot for a game, there had to be at least 100 extra parking spaces available. It's a bit early to be treating the orange parking lot as if it's the hottest parking pass in town on game day.
  20. Well, considering that Craig Miller thinks that his own Alma Mater doesn't exsist (sports wise), I'll have to give that opinion the consideration that it deserves.........none!
  21. After the 72 season (1-10) there was a student referendum about keeping football or not. The vote was to keep football, but I heard that it just barely passed. I don't know if the referendum was before or after they fired Rod Rust. Hayden Fry was hired after Rust was fired (who went on to have a very good Pro career in coaching) and the rest, as they say, is history.
