  1. I agree with Got5, 1K is hard to get, and even in our most wide open days (just about any year before Dickyball) we've only had four 1000 yrd receivers. 1966, John Love, 1130 1968, Barry Moore, 1053 1969, Barry Moore, 1130 1994, David Brown, 1013 And we've had only three close calls besides that. 1965, John Love, 994 1982, Marvin Walker, 934 1988, Marcus Camper, 938
  2. I'll answer this question if you answer mine. To repeat. How much respect did we get from our fellow Texans for our four bowl trips and our record setting conference winning streak.
  3. So, how much respect did we get from Texans for our four bowl appearances and conference winning streak?
  4. A. Because it's the only win on our schedule (other than Arkansas) that Texans would respect. How many of your B-12/CUSA friends/co-workers actually respect our four trips to the NO bowl....especially since we only won one of the them? And it's the kind of win that will have the NT alumni/student fence-setters jumping off the fence and laying down some money.
  5. Well, how about this item? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...&hasJS=true
  6. It's about time! I was expecting an exchange like this somewhere around the second or third page.
  7. I would add "Savages" to that list of offensive terms. I wonder if Utah is in any trouble over this. I don't know if they have any pre-game traditions with a mascot that would be considered offensive, but their name is the proper name of an indian tribe. I would think that Warriors would not be offensive to native americans.
  8. 1968 Mean Green team photo (finished 8-2); advance photos to next pages to see more 1968 pics: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...%3D10%26hl%3Den I don't know how many other errors there are on the player list for the 1968 team photo, but Billy Anderson is the fourth player from the left on the fifth row, not the third.
  9. Lots of stuff can happen between now and next February. I'm not too distressed about Riley making a verbal commitment to Texas. It's his dad's alma mater forgodsakes. I'm more bothered by the grandson of Abner Haynes going to SMU.
  10. ....for that matter, getting sent to prison out of Dallas County doesn't mean you're guilty. I believe the count (the Dallas county prisoners released) is now up to 14.
  11. I took blue. Is the orange lot the new "pay-per-game" lot?
  12. Hey, don't jump on Cooley. He was just agreeing with me. And if everyone will look at my post again, I just said "I was hoping".....
  13. I really don't care how pissed OU is, and neither should our players. Folks, anything would be better than the last two Texas games, especially the 2004 game where our whole team just gave up after that first UT offensive play. I don't think that I've ever been more disqusted or disappointed in any North Texas team. If nothing else, I expect Todd Dodge and his staff to instill in the team the kind of pride and fight that is a reflection of a couple of the lines in our fight song...... "victory's in store, what'er the score, our team will ever fight, FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
  14. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I was hoping that by now we would be attracting the attention of LB's who were more in the size range of 6'3" X 235lbs........with dorsal fins.......... and multiple rows of serrated teeth.
  15. Mascot: Eagles Nickname: Mean Green Personally, I don't understand why College graduates find this confusing.
  16. 3x has the correct information. UNT was our first choice in 1960 when the bill for our name change was filed. After much discussion, and threats of filibusters, not to mention dismissive comments about our school in the official records, a compromise name was agreed upon......NTSU. I'm guessing that our administration re-visited this issue back in 1988 when it was very clear that we were heading toward being a more "research" focused institution. And more than ever, we needed a name that reflected that status. So, KajunRaider. Ya'll might want to check on the political atmosphere regarding a name change before you worry about "Vol alumni" continuing to call you MTSU.
  17. Out of the same Texas backfield, I saw Billy Dale (#22) and his Odessa Permian team play at Amon Carter Stadium against Texarkana. Dale wasn't particularly impressive, but (like he did in the first Texas/Notre Dame Cotton Bowl game), he got the job done. Texarkana's Robbie Patman was much more impressive that day, but Permian, and Dale, made the plays when they had to. During the same era, I saw Jacksboro's Glen King play. He was an all-state RB and ended up playing for Oklahoma. I also saw a pretty impressive performance from John Griggs of Plano in a regional game vs my old High School (Decatur) in 1966.
  18. Ken Washington got us a lot of publicity (mainly because he was the brother of Joe Washington), but he was very overrated as a QB. All time passing efficiency 1. Scott Hall, 132.26 (four year starter) 2. Mitch Maher, 128.56 (four year starter) 3. Scoptt Davis, 126.44 (four year starter) 4. Steve Ramsey, 116.16 (three year starter) 5. Jordan Case, 111.61 (two year starter) 6. Ken Washington, 105.01 (four year starter) Passing yards #7 Ken Washington, 3040 (over four years as a starter) #9 Jordan Case, 2608 (over two years as a starter) Completion Percentage 1. Jordan Case, .616 ( 218-354) Ken Washington.....not listed in the top 6. FWIW, I'd take Jordan Case's backup, Joe Stevenson, over Ken Washington any day.....and twice on Saturdays. I'd also take the guys who filled in for Ken Washington (Ken Smith & Glen Ray) when he was hurt in 75 & 76, over him.
  19. ...or the Akron Zips.
  20. Based on the players that I've seen since the 60's John Love Steve Ramsey Joe Greene Jordan Case Other players that are a close call. Carl (Spider) Lockhart, Ron Shanklin, Cedric Hardman, Burks Washington, Pete Harvey, Bernard Jackson, Marcus Camper, Scott Davis and Mitch Maher.
  21. Next time you might want to save yourself a little time and just send GrayEagleone a PM. He's the only one who gave a specific response.
  22. It'll only be sad if we don't avail ourselves of the opportunity to increase our fan base during these positive times with TD as head coach. RV should already be looking around for the next up-and-coming coach who has a positive attitude, a great ability to interact with the students/fans/alumni, and who puts an exciting brand of football on the field. We tend to put too much on one guy. We need to make sure that the decision/policy makers are in place that gave us TD in the first place. As long as we have Dr. B and RV running things, we should be fine. To illustrate my point. I had a chance to talk with a very knowledgable alum after the spring game. I asked him who's idea it was to hire Hayden Fry. He said that it was Jitter Nolan's idea. That confirmed what I always suspected. Not long after Fry left (or maybe at the same time), the "old nesters" at North Texas ran off Jitter Nolan. Shortly after that, we quickly retreated back to "old attitudes" about sports. It was only a few years after that that we moved down to 1-AA, and the "powers-that-be/old nesters" didn't seem to care. So, it was the "decision makers" that put us behind in sports all those years. We need to be as worried about keeping Dr. B and RV as we are about keeping TD.
  23. I am really looking forward to this. My introduction to the North Texas football experience was watching/listening to a Maurice Mcadow Band. It should be interesting to hear what post-75 alumni think of how the original fight song sounds.
  24. It's too bad that FFRick and my son are working the same shift for the fire department. Otherwise they could apply to job-share this position.
  25. I agree with Emmitt that we need more lawn signs, but I have something more high traffic in mind. I was thinking about putting up lawn-type signs up along the roadways (exits from neighborhoods and turn-offs to major roads) that lead to (or head toward) Fouts. These would be much like those real estate signs that you see on the week-ends. The signs would have SOW on it and say something like "This way to Mean Green Football" or "This way to the best Football in Texas". For instance, I would place some along Basswood (North Fort Worth) heading toward I-35 and then have one at the bridge where Basswood crosses I-35 and having it pointing North toward Denton. Volunteers could go out and put them up on Friday and take them down on Sunday, just like they do with real estate signs. Another thing would be to make schedule posters showing a shot (or shots) of the mean green village and the tailgating area. I would put these up at businesses all around Denton, and Denton county. By looking at the schedule posters, people could not only know who our opponents are, they can also see what an "event" the game has become. I'd make the same type of posters to go up all over the campus.
