One of my wife's favorite quotes from the movie "Desk Set" (Joan Blondell, to Katherine Hephurn, as she is trying to describe Spencer Tracy) No, he looks like one of those men who suddenly switched to vodka. Spencer Tracy, from "Inherit the Wind"-- Henry Drummond: to the Judge (Harry Morgan) Can't you understand? That if you take a law like evolution and you make it a crime to teach it in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools? And tomorrow you may make it a crime to read about it. And soon you may ban books and newspapers. And then you may turn Catholic against Protestant, and Protestant against Protestant, and try to foist your own religion upon the mind of man. If you can do one, you can do the other. Because fanaticism and ignorance is forever busy, and needs feeding. And soon, your Honor, with banners flying and with drums beating we'll be marching backward, BACKWARD, through the glorious ages of that Sixteenth Century when bigots burned the man who dared bring enlightenment and intelligence to the human mind! I've thought about that quote a lot. Especially after each or our recent Presidential and Congressional elections.

That's too bad. I'm sure former NT QB Jordan Case could make him a good deal on one.

We better worry about that question more than the QB question.

I feel bad for Mr. Wilson. He did pass up a B-12 scholarship.....to play DB or WR. He took a chance coming here because he wanted to play QB, and we were the only ones that were going to give him a serious look at that position. Who knows how things would have turned out for him if he had gotten some decent coaching from the very beginning.

If that happens, then all I can say is there are many more QB prospects out there, who are just as talented, that are more than willing to wait their turn to play for TD. I don't know about player of the year, but I think that Ryan Davenport has to be the most versatile player on the team. I can't remember what position he was listed as playing when he arrived two years ago, but last year he was listed as a F-Back. As a member of the Green team he caught at least one TD pass......I assume from the FB/H-back position. I think that he was listed as a WR on the spring roster, and now he's playing DE.

One of the ways to predict future behavior in a person is to look at past behavior. This is especially true if the person in question is successful in their profession. Coach Dodge obviously thinks that how he has done things in the past will work well here at North Texas. He has surrounded himself with assistant coaches who have worked for him, and who obviously believe in how he does things. Having said all that, how has Coach Dodge always handled the QB situation at SLC? Has he ever started a sophmore or freshman? My observation of the SLC QB situation in the last four or five years is that everyone has had to wait their turn, and spend years learning their craft. There are many of you on this board who are much more familiar with Coach Dodge and his tenure at SLC who can present a "yeah-but" to this. However, my guess is that if all other factors are pretty even, Coach Dodge is going to go with his most experienced QB, and let the younger guys wait their turn.

I wonder if Patterson (or any coach for that matter) would say the same things, and make the same trip, for some third stringer who had worked his ass off for two or three years and who was suddenly MIA for some of the same reasons.

I noticed that Ross was listed on the official team roster that I printed off nine days ago, but Banks was not. Anyway, great news! I just hope that this is the last time that we go through this drama with these two young men.

It's either a concern about spys getting in, or fans blabbing too much on the board about what they saw. It could also be a concern about the fans distracting the players, because they are still learning his system and every "rep" is precious. When Don McGee was playing, you could distract a player for about half of the practice and they would still not miss anything.

I suppose that technically the first out of town game that I attended was the 1971 game vs Wichita State at Texas Stadium. I also attended many games at TS during the Hayden Fry era, but I didn't consider them "out of town" games. Nor do I consider games with UTA to be out of town games. I guess the first real out of town game that I attended was North Texas and Baylor in 1982.
