  1. We renewed our series with SMU back in 1974 (the first game since 1942). We played the game at Texas Stadium and lost 6-7. The next Monday as I was walking past the Ad Min building I noticed that someone had spray-painted SMU on the columns at the entrance to the Ad Min building. The incident was covered in the Daily, and I think that the (then) SMU president apologized for the incident. Hayden Fry had already publically stated that he wanted North Texas to join the SWC. But I remember thinking that if this is the kind of classless thing that is involved in being in the SWC, then I'm not sure I wanted North Texas to join.
  2. Redshirt freshman defensive back Chris Neal and freshman cornerback Kevin Ealey will return kickoffs Saturday against SMU, Dodge said Wednesday. Starting defensive back Antoine Bush, starting slot receiver Korey Washington and backup defensive back Evyn Roman returned kickoffs in the Mean Green's season opener at Oklahoma and combined to average 13.7 yards a return. Dodge said he decided to give Neal and Ealey an opportunity to return kickoffs because of concerns that Bush was tiring out while starting at cornerback and serving as the Mean Green's top kick returner. You know, if this report was about any other school and it's player, I'd find this very funny.
  3. During his great freshman year, J-mo was plagued by his hamstring. He missed half of the Baylor game, all of the Ark St. game, and parts of other games because of it. So, what has changed since his freshman year?
  4. Actually, the tops look Navy blue, and the shorts look black.
  5. Well, did anyone go to the show? If so, what was asked and what was said?
  6. ...and I'd like to be reminded again why CUSA just had to have SMU in their conference?
  7. God! I hate Stoops, and I hate seeing things from his point of view. But keep in mind that OU has been catching hell from everyone all off season (and well they should....the arrogant bastards), and then right before kick-off, Michigan gets taken down by a 1-AA school. At that point he couldn't possibly look past us to next weeks game with Miami. He had to make sure we were dead.....AK-47-(as-explained-by-Samuel L. Jackson-in-Jackie Brown) dead. Then he could let up.
  8. For a few seconds I thought that I was reading the GMG.com board, one year ago. To their credit they've figured it out pretty fast. How many people here still supported Dickey after all those years of Dickeyball?
  9. I've been there about 4 times and what you heard about Boomer Sooner is correct. But as much as I dislike OU, I have to give them props for putting on a hell of a show that gets their fans very much into the game. They are one of the finest examples of college game day pagentry that I've ever witnessed. The people in charge of our game day pagentry should take notes.
  10. Corky Nelson's comment after the game was something like "Oh well, if we had won Texas would have never scheduled us again". Of course, our program and fan base might have taken off to the point that we wouldn't have needed money games any longer. But was our administration ready for such a thing back then?
  11. Well, this behemoth that everyone is talking about is clearly big and talented (otherwise he wouldn't be starting) but he is a Juco transfer with no D-1 game experience. And Chapman has three years of experience in going up against "big-time" lineman. Our defense is not a bunch of wide-eyed freshmen. They've played at many big venues and they've faced many freaks of nature. Geezz folks! Quit being so awed.
  12. I never thought that Coach Dodge had brought some sort of magical offense to North Texas......just (by comparison) a magical attitude.
  13. I can't speculate about a dollar figure, but North Texas hasn't gotten this much media attention since we hired Hayden Fry. Like Fry's hiring, the attention is focused on Dodge, but I like that the North Texas fan's response is noteworthy to the media......and that they're reporting it. The great publicity has started thanks to Dodge, but keeping the publicity going is up to US!
  14. Under 90 (beats the hell out of last years Texas game), and no rain (beats the hell out of the last time were were up at Zero-U), sounds good to me.
  15. Why do we just have our fight song on this web-site? Why not Glory to the Green and White?
  16. It's really great to be reminded that we have a little extra in the bank for down the road.
  17. I would have said something to them. If they didn't like what I said, then I would have taken it to the next level with RV.
  18. ....and the night before the game our coach joked to an alumni gathering that Dr. B. should keep in mind that we are getting a 1/2 mil for the game when she looks up at the scoreboard at the end of the game. I didn't laugh at the joke.
  19. One coach, Florida Atlantic's Howard Schnellenberger, said Dodge's hiring won't necessarily spark a trend of high school coaches moving to Division I-A colleges. (Gerry Faust's infamous Notre Dame tenure probably took care of that.) But those like Dodge, who hired four assistants from the high school ranks, perhaps could take jobs from established college assistants, Schnellenberger said. Before commenting, Schnellenberger had to be reminded which Sun Belt team Dodge coached. He sure waves his Alzheimers flag proudly. But those like Dodge, who hired four assistants from the high school ranks, perhaps could take jobs from established college assistants, Schnellenberger said. Good grief, he sounds like an "old school" Union leader. Besides, unless you identify an "up and coming coach" most college assistants (with good college experience) would not want to come to North Texas. And if they were "up and comers", they would leave after a year anyway. I think that Coach Dodge has surrounded himself with very capable, and loyal coaches. Having assistant coaches coming and going all the time is not conducive to building a new program. Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters "had never heard of" Dodge when he was hired at UNT. Hmmm, I'm sure that before he was hired, Todd Dodge had never heard of Wright Waters. Let's see, if you polled all the coaches in Texas (HS and College) I wonder how many of them would know Wright Waters and how many would know Todd Dodge. I still don't like the "alternate" list of coaches that were our fall-back had Todd Dodge turned us down. Harbaugh is now at Stanford, so he really never was a candidate, and I still believe that Cauthern (West Texas A$M) would have been a much better selection than the Nebraska assistant.
  20. I think that everyone who is making predictions of a high score by OU is forgetting that our defense is the strength of the team, and OU is starting a QB that hasn't taken a snap in a regular game.
  21. Our building site is much easier to get to than either Ford Stadium or the new Cowboy stadium. Plus, you don't have to tear anything down (like Fprd stadium) before you start building. So, in theory, our project should be completed in a very timely manner once it gets started.
  22. 125, row 22, seat 14.
  23. Damn! They had two post-game interviews with Pitt. State players, and they both could actually speak in complete sentences. I don't recall once hearding their sentences punctuated with "Ya' know, "Like", uh (or "Uh like") or "Yo". Amazing.
  24. I don't find this lame at all. Lame is watching pre-packaged-over-analyzed-big-time football. If I had known that it was going to be on, I would have turned in. I like watching the more obscure schools play. The Gorillas vs the Lions. sounds like a good match-up to me.
