  1. Hank is talking to you now?
  2. Didn't Vizza also have an "int" in his first start? Who's to say that he wouldn't get out there and gunsling all over the place and have twice as many int's, trying to show that he's the man. Let me point out something that should be obvious. When you throw the ball around a lot, you are at high risk of getting intercepted. Especially when you are only three games into this type offense. This is incredible. Daniel has been berated for just about all of his career here at North Texas. When TD was hired I commented that it will be interesting to see how Daniel (and all the QB's for that matter) will perform now that they are going to get some real coaching. As far as I'm concerned, the answer has been astounding. How may of us would make the same type of turnaround on our job performance after getting verbally abused by our immediate supervisor for over two years, and have little or no support from our peers? And yet when his performance is not "perfect" everyone goes back to the "kick Daniel under the bus" mode. I hope most of you don't choose to be parents. God help your children if they ever make mistakes....or if they're not athletic enough.....or not pretty enough. geeezzz.
  3. Thank you for saving me a great deal of keyboard time. Was it Daniel's fault that two punts got blocked? Was it Daniel's fault that our DL is still not making it too uncomfortable for the opposing QB? It's a good thing that Daniel has good speed, because they were flushing him out of the pocket before the half-time. Rusty Smith never looked the least bit harried or even bothered. They figured out our blocking schemes and just shot people in from the edge all during the second half. They also have some great (and very confident) DB's who look to be about half the size of ours, but were knocking the hell out of our WR's all night long. If I have to be critical of Daniel (or the coaching staff since they sent in the signal for the play), it would be those fade routes into the end zone that he kept throwing whilst those (aformentioned) good and confident DB's were draped all over our receiver.....two or three at a time. IF WE INSIST ON THROWING FADE ROUTES/JUMP BALLS INTO THE END ZONE, THEN WE NEED TO SEND TALLER RECEIVERS INTO THE ROUTE. I watch the body language of players (individually and as a group) during the crunch time of a game. Last night our body language said "damn, why aren't they giving up?" and FAU's body language was "man! we got their $hit figured out, now we're comin' after em' ". They were loose and relentless....especially in the second half.....which is the only half that really counts. It's like watching someone testify in court. The confident witness sits up straight and leans slightly forward, and never waivers even under strong cross examination. The questionable witness sits back, stammers and gets flustered when put under pressure. Also, if I didn't mention it before, I saw little or not adjustments in the second half.
  4. Wouldn't it be better to sit them in the student section where they can have a better view of their (potential) future social life at North Texas.
  5. Well, in the case of Central Florida, (as I observed last week) the inside of their stadium looks like a solar oven. UT's not so much, but the day was damned hot! But in both cases, I have to speculate that they don't have water fountains because that would cut into their sales for bottled water......for three friggin dollars a bottle.
  6. I'm in. $5 is a bargain.
  7. I don't know if the aggies whine about Mike Leach or not. But I do know that traditionally they have always taken exception to anyone (other than them) taking a public shot at their school, their traditions, and/or their coaches........and that includes all the time periods when they really sucked. I hate them as much as you do (I think I do anyway), but I have to give them props for maintaining their traditions, taking up for "their own", and regularly showing up to their games.....even when they suck. They may be a cult, but most of the time we've been a dysfunctional family.......when we have been a family. I'm not going to whine about comments made about our coach, but I'm not going to let them go by either. It's what family does.
  8. What GMoney is reacting to is the "additional comment" about Dodge being as smart as about half of the other coaches in the league. It was unnecessary, and a bit dismissive IMHO. As to your sarcastic comment about "Old Testament" rules about paying tribute.....yes, there are some unofficial rules. Nothing is written, but the legendary Darrell Royal (I guess his era of coaching would qualify as "old testament") would heap praise on his opponent (and their team) prior to their game. If you listened to Darrell talk about his next opponent, you would think that Darrell had just nominated him as coach of the year. It's always been good manners to do it that way. The kind of comment that Captain Kangaroo made is something that players (and fans) would notice and get motivated about. "The Captain", is either senile or just arrogant......or both. It's kind of like someone taking a public shot at your Dad or Mamma. What they're saying might be true, but as a member of the family, you don't tolerate it. I have to say that I'm a bit surprised that you don't seem to understand this very basic concept.
  9. I believe that grades kept him out of the spring practice, and he had to spend all summer in class, but he finally became eligible after fall practice began. He and Ajani Banks were in the same situation. Banks is back as well....and far down on the depth chart.
  10. Actually, they should work on their grip-strength and wrapping-up. There was one play in the SMU game where three defensive players had their hands on Willis at the same time, and he got out of the tackle and kept running. There is nothing that drives me crazier (besides drawing a penalty on a crucial third down stop) than seeing a defensive player get his hands on a runner and then letting the runner just get away.
  11. So Emmitt, I'm wondering how having "Dom" playing out there is going to change our situation regarding QB sacks......of which we have only one. Because to tell you the truth, I'm more interested in hearing that one of our (heretofore) unused defensive linemen like Draylen Ross or Eddrick Gilmore is ready to step into the rotation and begin terrorizing opposing QB's. When that happens, our DB's are going to look a lot better.
  12. To me, the funny part is how surprised Georgie was at the answer. He kept saying "wow, that's surprising" and "wow, that's interesting", several minutes after he asked the question.
  13. Well, as I've mentioned several times before, when we planned and built Fouts back in the late 40's early 50's our student population was about 6K. So, back then, we were building a stadium (20.5K capacity) to accomodate three times the student population. I'm certainly not advocating a 102K stadium, but considering our student population, 40K would seem to be a reasonable size.
  14. Todd Wageman RB 6-O 185 Springtown High 1989 If, I'm not mistaken, this young man never made it to campus. He died in a car accident in the spring or summer before he was to arrive at North Texas. He was pretty well thought of as a prospect as I recall. Kevin Adkisson RB 1972....one of the Von Ericks. From my 1978 pocket media guide. In addition to Collins and Daniels, there is also Jeff Beard, 6'2" X 195, Houston Cypress Fairbanks HS who came in as a freshman recruit in the fall of 78. Also on the team at that time (1978). Marc Snyder, 5'4" X 158, soph, Highland Park. Rushed for 1801 yards for Highland Park, with an average of 8 yrds per carry. That would put him in the 76 recruiting class. Fred Gordon (#24 on your program), 6'3" X234 FB, Oklahoma City, transferred to NT in the summer of 76 from St. Gregory's JC in Oklahoma, he was a DB at the Jr. College. He got into his first game in the Drake blow-out of 76. He gained 453 yards in 77 (5.5 average), while blocking for Michael Jones, who gained 940. Fred Gordon was the starting FB in 78 when Bernard Jackson ran for what was then a record 1400 yards. It was one of the best FB/RB combinations that I've ever seen at North Texas. Gordon was IMHO the best FB that we ever had at North Texas. Gordon was almost as much of a running threat as Jackson. And in addition to being a great blocker, he was a good receiver. Why he wasn't picked up by a pro team is beyond me.
  15. Somewhat close. As of the 2004 record book, he was tied with Scott Hall and Rusty Hill in fifth place with 5 career 200 yard passing games. He only started the 1980 season and a few others in the two years before. Rusty Hill had more yards in his only year of starting, but he and Marvin Walker were pretty much the only offense that North Texas had. Joe Stevenson had a 1000 yard rusher (Malcolm Jones, all 5'7" X 160lbs of him) playing with him the year he started. To me, he was our best ever "QB of color".
  16. The keepers out of your list. I added Greg Carter. * In my 1978 pocket press guide, Joe Stevenson is listed as 6'1" X 158. Believe me, by the time he was a senior, he had not gained any more than 12 lbs, and he had not grown two inches. I agree with Varsity, you should have included Vidal Carlen 65 & 66. Our only Juco success at QB, 3233 yrds passing in two years. I was having a discussion Saturday with a long time alumni (I don't know his name, but he's usually hanging around with the exes) about Joe Stevenson. He asked me if I could tell him what Joe Stevenson (who only started the 1980 season) was in the record books for. I was able to answer the question. Can anyone else?
  17. So is his hamstring is worse than when he was a freshman and gaining 1800 yrds?....with a bad hamstring.
  18. Inside the stadium it looks like a solar oven to me.
  19. How many QB sacks do we have thus far?
  20. I'm sure that Josh could have made 5 tackles if they had put him out there. I wonder why they don't give him a shot at running back kick-offs. He's a fearless runner.
  21. And Marquise Sykes (#43) 6'3" X 253 lb. linebacker. I believe that he (like Ross) arrived last year with the "big potential" tag attached.
  22. I think we may be forgetting that the first decision maker in this is Coach Mendoza. I suspect that it's his standards that were not being met by Mr. Green, and it's Coach Mendoza's dog house that he needs to get out of before he sees any playing time. And while I'm on the subject, what is keeping Draylen Ross off the field? As I recall, he came to us last year as a very raw talent, but dripping with potential. I noticed on the official roster, he's listed as 6'3" X 280 lbs. I observed him standing on the sidelines Saturday night, and he looked every bit of that. Now, as I recall, he got into some games last year, so it isn't as if he doesn't have a feel for D-1 football. So, what's the deal with him?
  23. As old as my gums, and a little older than my teeth. And who, again, are your next of kin........ Mr. Kringle?
  24. I think GreyEagleone might have that one beat.
  25. Besides, who could pass up an opportunity to see Captain Kangaroo in person.
