  1. To me, the funny part is how surprised Georgie was at the answer. He kept saying "wow, that's surprising" and "wow, that's interesting", several minutes after he asked the question.
  2. Well, as I've mentioned several times before, when we planned and built Fouts back in the late 40's early 50's our student population was about 6K. So, back then, we were building a stadium (20.5K capacity) to accomodate three times the student population. I'm certainly not advocating a 102K stadium, but considering our student population, 40K would seem to be a reasonable size.
  3. Todd Wageman RB 6-O 185 Springtown High 1989 If, I'm not mistaken, this young man never made it to campus. He died in a car accident in the spring or summer before he was to arrive at North Texas. He was pretty well thought of as a prospect as I recall. Kevin Adkisson RB 1972....one of the Von Ericks. From my 1978 pocket media guide. In addition to Collins and Daniels, there is also Jeff Beard, 6'2" X 195, Houston Cypress Fairbanks HS who came in as a freshman recruit in the fall of 78. Also on the team at that time (1978). Marc Snyder, 5'4" X 158, soph, Highland Park. Rushed for 1801 yards for Highland Park, with an average of 8 yrds per carry. That would put him in the 76 recruiting class. Fred Gordon (#24 on your program), 6'3" X234 FB, Oklahoma City, transferred to NT in the summer of 76 from St. Gregory's JC in Oklahoma, he was a DB at the Jr. College. He got into his first game in the Drake blow-out of 76. He gained 453 yards in 77 (5.5 average), while blocking for Michael Jones, who gained 940. Fred Gordon was the starting FB in 78 when Bernard Jackson ran for what was then a record 1400 yards. It was one of the best FB/RB combinations that I've ever seen at North Texas. Gordon was IMHO the best FB that we ever had at North Texas. Gordon was almost as much of a running threat as Jackson. And in addition to being a great blocker, he was a good receiver. Why he wasn't picked up by a pro team is beyond me.
  4. Somewhat close. As of the 2004 record book, he was tied with Scott Hall and Rusty Hill in fifth place with 5 career 200 yard passing games. He only started the 1980 season and a few others in the two years before. Rusty Hill had more yards in his only year of starting, but he and Marvin Walker were pretty much the only offense that North Texas had. Joe Stevenson had a 1000 yard rusher (Malcolm Jones, all 5'7" X 160lbs of him) playing with him the year he started. To me, he was our best ever "QB of color".
  5. The keepers out of your list. I added Greg Carter. * In my 1978 pocket press guide, Joe Stevenson is listed as 6'1" X 158. Believe me, by the time he was a senior, he had not gained any more than 12 lbs, and he had not grown two inches. I agree with Varsity, you should have included Vidal Carlen 65 & 66. Our only Juco success at QB, 3233 yrds passing in two years. I was having a discussion Saturday with a long time alumni (I don't know his name, but he's usually hanging around with the exes) about Joe Stevenson. He asked me if I could tell him what Joe Stevenson (who only started the 1980 season) was in the record books for. I was able to answer the question. Can anyone else?
  6. So is his hamstring is worse than when he was a freshman and gaining 1800 yrds?....with a bad hamstring.
  7. Inside the stadium it looks like a solar oven to me.
  8. How many QB sacks do we have thus far?
  9. I'm sure that Josh could have made 5 tackles if they had put him out there. I wonder why they don't give him a shot at running back kick-offs. He's a fearless runner.
  10. And Marquise Sykes (#43) 6'3" X 253 lb. linebacker. I believe that he (like Ross) arrived last year with the "big potential" tag attached.
  11. I think we may be forgetting that the first decision maker in this is Coach Mendoza. I suspect that it's his standards that were not being met by Mr. Green, and it's Coach Mendoza's dog house that he needs to get out of before he sees any playing time. And while I'm on the subject, what is keeping Draylen Ross off the field? As I recall, he came to us last year as a very raw talent, but dripping with potential. I noticed on the official roster, he's listed as 6'3" X 280 lbs. I observed him standing on the sidelines Saturday night, and he looked every bit of that. Now, as I recall, he got into some games last year, so it isn't as if he doesn't have a feel for D-1 football. So, what's the deal with him?
  12. As old as my gums, and a little older than my teeth. And who, again, are your next of kin........ Mr. Kringle?
  13. I think GreyEagleone might have that one beat.
  14. Besides, who could pass up an opportunity to see Captain Kangaroo in person.
  15. Well here's a stat for anyone who is interested. This High School coach that we hired has taken a bunch of players that were NOT his recruits, and coached/taught them to the point that they just broke three all-time North Texas records, and put one player in the NCAA record book. And his response to that is "we're not as good as we're going to be". Besides the defense giving up too many easy TD's, the only negative that I saw from our offensive show last night was that we probably gave Captain Kangaroo too much film on our offense.
  16. Emmitt, your powers of persuasion are just to great. I have no choice but to see things your way on this issue..... Seriously, when the conversation/controversy was going hot and heavy during the spring/summer, my main stance was to see how DM and the other QB's performed after they got some real coaching. We just saw the results of real coaching/teaching last night.
  17. I've given Mr. Hobdy props many times, and will continue to do so in the future. He is the one who developed/created our North Texas battle flag, and he was also in charge of promotions when North Texas had it's first ever sell-out at Fouts.........as a 1-AA school! HERE'S TO YOU JIM!!!!.....and not for the last time either.
  18. No, they were the regular troops. Tell you what. You watch the well-dressed-but-ordinary-playing-SMU-like bands, and I'll take the GB just the way they are. Besides, one could argue that the Band is (gear wise) just a reflection of the fan base. Even at the Aug 4th kick-off gathering, which was attended by the most loyal North Texas fans, someone wandering in off the street would never have been able to guess what the event was just based on how much green was being worn.......or not worn. There was a sea of green last night, but it was still very patchy. And just about every shade imaginable. Again, I invite anyone picking at the shorts that the GB was wearing to write a check and send it to the GB band fund. I would also ask the same person if they've worn green at every North Texas event.
  19. The SMU (Mr. Peppermint) Band Uniforms are not made of wool. If any of you were paying attention, our Band absolutely kicked ass...as they usually do. I wasn't looking at their shorts. I was paying attention to their musical performance, as well as their marching performance. This version of the GB, not only plays just as well as any of the previous versions, they TOTALLY TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROMOTING SPIRIT AT THE GAME. Something that many of the previous versions of the GB did not do....most notably the Dr. Winslow-led versions. You know, a well respected Civil war historian once noted that if Stonewall Jackson's troops had been walking around the streets of New York City, because of the way they were dressed, they would have been picked up for vagrancy. But there was no finer fighting force during the Civil war than Jackson's troops. If any of you want the shorts to match better, then send a check to whoever is in charge of the funding for the Band.
  20. You've got to be kidding me. Yes, there were great catches by the WR's (mainly Fitz and B-Jac), but did you choose to ignore the passes that were thrown precisely where only the WR could catch them....and in tight coverage? On some of those long passes it was very clear that DM was showing confidence that Fitz and B-Jac could beat his man for the ball. But don't we see that all the time with all-conference (and all-pro) QB's throwing to their best (and most competitive) receivers? I saw less nervousness in the pocket on the part of DM than I ever seen. Any time he ran, it was because he had no other option and/or it was a designed play. You've also made the decision to ignore that touchdown pass that DM threw with a DE in his face. If DM had had some help from the defense, we would be celebrating our second victory in a row over SMU and the first of many victories for Todd Dodge. geezz
  21. Anyone who is laying any sort of blame on DM for this loss is seriously delusional. It's been years since I've seen this kind of performance by a QB. And it's been years since I've seen this kind of improvement in just a week. Tonight Todd Dodge showed us what his system can truely do. I don't know the passing stats of this game, but the single game record for passes thrown and completed was 61/42 by Rusty Hill vs Tulsa in 1982. 22 of those receptions were by Marvin Walker.
  22. Save yourself a lot of trouble and go here. You have two choices. 1. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate....amp;item=149594 2. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate....amp;item=149599 I have one of these (I think it's the 14' one) and it works great.
  23. And one for me as well.
  24. Bennett's opinion about this series won't matter if his team loses this week-end.
  25. Not being at their best? You mean they would have looked worse than any of the starters out there? I have a feeling that this is more about attitude, than a lack of ability....... or for a lack of staying in shape.
