For Those That Still Want Dd Back Here Is An Update
SilverEagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Let's please end all of the comments/discussion about DD. He was a bad fit for North Texas for more than one reason. His offensive philosophy was boring, and his attitude about the North Texas fan was terrible. He was not ever going to be someone who would make public appearances and get the fans pumped up. His attitude seemed to be that it wasn't his job to promote the program. North Texas HAS to have a promoter, otherwise we will not move forward. Todd Dodge is, for the most part, the perfect fit for us. If Coach Dodge wasn't here, I would strongly nominate this guy. http://gobuffsgo.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/...thel_don00.html -
Well An Impression Was Made On This Caju Fan

I hope the guy he hires knows "strength and conditioning" better than the one he hired to run the defense. -
I thought it was just me who observed that. At the beginning of the game, I thought "damn, this looks like a High School game". And I wasn't just commenting on the speed, it was the sloppy execution as well. BTW, I have absolutely no problems with the offense that Coach Dodge has installed. I'm sorry that I can't say the same for the rest of the game...defense, special teams, kicking....etc. BTW(2) Did anyone notice that Jim Harbaugh's Stanford team beat USC. BTW (3.. and this is directed at FFR) I notice that WTA&M is 6-0.

Hey Now! I went to a 3A school, and even playing both ways, those guys put in a better performance on defense than I saw tonight.

Vizza Is The Starter Next Week - Bet On It
SilverEagle replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Well everyone that found fault with everything that Daniel Meager did can be happy now that they have a nice shiney new QB out there.....who makes just as many mistakes....if not more. But at least he's nice and new. -
The context was pretty clear. A bunch of Denton residences go out to I-35 to watch the Okies drive by. Maybe it's the team bus with it's Oklahoma State trooper escort that everyone goes out to watch. But KRLD reports that there are enough people out there that it presents a traffic problem, and the Denton people are asked by the police to disperse. All of you can call BS on the story if you like, but considering what a bunch of slackers the citizens of Denton (and a big portion of the NT student body) are regarding supporting this University and it's athletic programs, the story sounds pretty credible to me.
-
My thoughts exactly.
-
According to KRLD, today is when Denton residents traditionally go over to the I-35 bridges and sit in lawn chairs with their snacks and drinks and watch the OU fans drive by. Also according to KRLD, this is sometimes such a problem to traffic that the Denton police have to ask them to move. We can't get the residence of Denton to regularly attend North Texas games and support their local college team, but they'll go out and watch the Okies drive by?!?!............

Yeah, we might actually have something that resembles fall this year.....other than football games going on.
-
Well, according to the dictionary, people don't actually "jump on the bandwagon" until it's apparent that someone is about to win (usually an election). So I suppose our "bandwagon" has to do with someone (Coach Dodge) that has a winning "attitude". I've never been a bandwagon person (politically or otherwise). With the exception of the Helwig years (when the University almost totally lost me) I've always been on the North Texas wagon...regardless of what type it is. And as long as the current coach (or any coach for that matter) continues to believe in himself and this University (and more importantly the fans), then I'll continue to believe in him.

Well, one quick fix would be for these two guys to switch roles. http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...p;Q_SEASON=2007 http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...p;Q_SEASON=2007

Yeah, that would fool em'. They'd never figure that one out.

The Daily Texan, 9-1-06. http://media.www.dailytexanonline.com/medi...e-2254844.shtml I guess it was "background" information, since our game with them was the next day. "When I started playing, I was very timid," Greene said. "I used to get beat up quite a bit, on and off the field. You know, if I had been one of the coaches back then, and Joe Greene had mentioned this to me, I would have said "where are those guys now, and are they eligible to play college football?"......

You (and probably others) don't get my point. The only coaching DM got from his position coach was verbal abuse and berating......and the coach in question was certainly not his superior. It didn't have anything to do with actual performance. How can a coach (or your supervisor) claim that you're not doing your job, when they are incompetent at theirs. Daniel has made a tremendous turnaround, and as long has he has the support of a competent coach (something that has been long overdue around here), he deserves our support as well. What do we lose by putting Vizza in there after 3 ints? How about the credibility of the coach? We hired him to run things, make player assessments, and keep his word to the team. Not bow to the capricious demands of fans. Geez has everyone forgotten about the constant lament on this board for the last five years "THROW THE DAMN BALL". I'll repeat what I said earlier. When you throw the ball as often as we do, the risk of 'int's" goes way up....especially when it's new to you. And don't give me Rusty Smith's stats (21 of 45 & no int's) because he has been in Captain Kangaroos system for at least two years. This is Daniel's third game.
-
Hank is talking to you now?
-
Didn't Vizza also have an "int" in his first start? Who's to say that he wouldn't get out there and gunsling all over the place and have twice as many int's, trying to show that he's the man. Let me point out something that should be obvious. When you throw the ball around a lot, you are at high risk of getting intercepted. Especially when you are only three games into this type offense. This is incredible. Daniel has been berated for just about all of his career here at North Texas. When TD was hired I commented that it will be interesting to see how Daniel (and all the QB's for that matter) will perform now that they are going to get some real coaching. As far as I'm concerned, the answer has been astounding. How may of us would make the same type of turnaround on our job performance after getting verbally abused by our immediate supervisor for over two years, and have little or no support from our peers? And yet when his performance is not "perfect" everyone goes back to the "kick Daniel under the bus" mode. I hope most of you don't choose to be parents. God help your children if they ever make mistakes....or if they're not athletic enough.....or not pretty enough. geeezzz.

Thank you for saving me a great deal of keyboard time. Was it Daniel's fault that two punts got blocked? Was it Daniel's fault that our DL is still not making it too uncomfortable for the opposing QB? It's a good thing that Daniel has good speed, because they were flushing him out of the pocket before the half-time. Rusty Smith never looked the least bit harried or even bothered. They figured out our blocking schemes and just shot people in from the edge all during the second half. They also have some great (and very confident) DB's who look to be about half the size of ours, but were knocking the hell out of our WR's all night long. If I have to be critical of Daniel (or the coaching staff since they sent in the signal for the play), it would be those fade routes into the end zone that he kept throwing whilst those (aformentioned) good and confident DB's were draped all over our receiver.....two or three at a time. IF WE INSIST ON THROWING FADE ROUTES/JUMP BALLS INTO THE END ZONE, THEN WE NEED TO SEND TALLER RECEIVERS INTO THE ROUTE. I watch the body language of players (individually and as a group) during the crunch time of a game. Last night our body language said "damn, why aren't they giving up?" and FAU's body language was "man! we got their $hit figured out, now we're comin' after em' ". They were loose and relentless....especially in the second half.....which is the only half that really counts. It's like watching someone testify in court. The confident witness sits up straight and leans slightly forward, and never waivers even under strong cross examination. The questionable witness sits back, stammers and gets flustered when put under pressure. Also, if I didn't mention it before, I saw little or not adjustments in the second half.

Wouldn't it be better to sit them in the student section where they can have a better view of their (potential) future social life at North Texas.
-
Well, in the case of Central Florida, (as I observed last week) the inside of their stadium looks like a solar oven. UT's not so much, but the day was damned hot! But in both cases, I have to speculate that they don't have water fountains because that would cut into their sales for bottled water......for three friggin dollars a bottle.

I'm in. $5 is a bargain.

Drc Blog Schnellenberger Compliments Dodge
SilverEagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know if the aggies whine about Mike Leach or not. But I do know that traditionally they have always taken exception to anyone (other than them) taking a public shot at their school, their traditions, and/or their coaches........and that includes all the time periods when they really sucked. I hate them as much as you do (I think I do anyway), but I have to give them props for maintaining their traditions, taking up for "their own", and regularly showing up to their games.....even when they suck. They may be a cult, but most of the time we've been a dysfunctional family.......when we have been a family. I'm not going to whine about comments made about our coach, but I'm not going to let them go by either. It's what family does. -

What GMoney is reacting to is the "additional comment" about Dodge being as smart as about half of the other coaches in the league. It was unnecessary, and a bit dismissive IMHO. As to your sarcastic comment about "Old Testament" rules about paying tribute.....yes, there are some unofficial rules. Nothing is written, but the legendary Darrell Royal (I guess his era of coaching would qualify as "old testament") would heap praise on his opponent (and their team) prior to their game. If you listened to Darrell talk about his next opponent, you would think that Darrell had just nominated him as coach of the year. It's always been good manners to do it that way. The kind of comment that Captain Kangaroo made is something that players (and fans) would notice and get motivated about. "The Captain", is either senile or just arrogant......or both. It's kind of like someone taking a public shot at your Dad or Mamma. What they're saying might be true, but as a member of the family, you don't tolerate it. I have to say that I'm a bit surprised that you don't seem to understand this very basic concept. -
Why I Feel Good About The Season From Here Forward
SilverEagle replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I believe that grades kept him out of the spring practice, and he had to spend all summer in class, but he finally became eligible after fall practice began. He and Ajani Banks were in the same situation. Banks is back as well....and far down on the depth chart.
