  1. Public school teachers are the first to have to put up with this kind of parenting. And then the police get to deal with it. Ultimately prison guards get to live with it.
  2. Kind of scary isn't it? However, my wife would love to fire off the cannon sometime......only she'd prefer that it have a projectile in it.
  3. Talk about a culture change.
  4. Here's the problem that I have with all this. Unless someone is heard by more than one person using racist language (the N word being the most common) and/or sends a letter to the editor, and/or publishes a paper about how one race is inferior to another, the issue of them being "racist" is almost totally driven by "perception". A child who has been molested most of her life is going to "perceive" that all adult males are either potential molesters, or are in fact, all child molesters. This is her "perception" from what has been her life experience thus far. But just because she says that she's uncomfortable around an adult male, doesn't make him a child molester.
  5. To Todd Jorgenson. Dear Todd. As to your problems/concerns about "page-layout-decision-making-I-have-other-people-wanting-coverage-for-their-own-schools etc" .....BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. You made the decision to run the negative story on the front page. And since journalist are bound by ethics* to present fair and balanced coverage of any story, your explaination holds absolutely no water with me. I'm very sorry that the other side of the story did not come around at a more convenient time for you. But if a professional is conducting himself in an ethical manner, he/she should give both sides of the story the same placement in the paper. Otherwise the person making the decision about story placement is essentially BIASED. This is a story that can, and will, effect Coach Dodge's chosen profession. As far as I'm concerned, when you made the decision to run it in the first place, you made an ethical decision to cover it in a fair and unbiased manner.......and (IMHO) that includes placement of the story(s). *Am I making a big assumption about journalist being bound by ethics?.
  6. "The Aggies are embarrassed right now," athletic director Bob Byrne said in October. "This has been a very unfortunate incident we do not want to experience again." You know, if they aren't embarrassed by any of their stupid traditions and/or stupid behavior at football games, then why should this incident embarrass them?
  7. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1...y_Python%29.jpg SO! What shall it be? Torture by THE (dish drying) RACK?, the COMFY CUSHIONS, or (insert diabolical laughter here) THE COMFY CHAIR!
  8. I don't know what their academic standards are, but If they are anything like the schools in La. we are always going to be at a disadvantage. I think that most of the schools in La. just require that you be able to chew gum and walk at the same time in order to get in.
  9. Our defense had better show up with the same attitude that they had during the ULM game.......only moreso.
  10. ....and really tackle! You know, the kind of tackling where you put your arms around the runner and drag him down......hard! Not that worthless hit/shoving stuff.
  11. Sorry would be the correct word alright. There are two schools that always deserve a lousy season.....$MU and ND!
  12. Well, go back a little further than 32 years to the 1970 (or 71) season, and there was some unrest on the North Texas team that ran across racial lines. There was a call by some of the black athletes on that football team for a general walk-out. The issue seemed to be very similar to what is being alleged this week. They didn't like some of the attitudes/policies/rules of the (then) head coach Rod Rust. They felt that there was favoritism by the coaching staff, and they felt misunderstood and/or put-upon because of their race. I have no idea if the NAACP was called in on the matter, but the situation was reported in the NT daily. I don't know how it all ended up. But it could be that once it was pointed out to the disgruntled athetes that Rod Rust irritated everyone (black or white), they might have said "Oh, well, nevermind then".
  13. I noticed that Dunbar is third in the district with a 6+ YPC average, but who is that against? I think he hasn't done too well against tough competition. I'm a bit concerned about this recruit.
  14. Well, let's hope so. But this quote concerns me more than anything......Before the game, UNT offensive coaches had calculated Troy's defense as a unit that blitzed just 21 percent of the time. That figure rose to around 75 percent. It seems to me that a crafty coach would spend some time scouting their own team, and try to anticipate what their opponent might be seeing as a weakness. And then try to anticipate what they might throw at them. You can't just totally rely on raw stats.
  15. WOW! I really like Colt Mahan fun facts! Keep'em comin'!!... .................
  16. That plus the fact that UNT doesn't really need the extra $500M, as hard as that might seem, as they are reaping large oil and gas profits from recent good production on their campus and surrounding acreage. __________________ Assuming that this is true, would the University be inclined to give any of this money to the athletic department? Also, would this money all belong to North Texas, or does some of it have to go to the general fund for all Universities?
  17. While I don't advocate traumatizing a child by refusing him/her access to the event because of the gear they are wearing, I also believe that if we don't take ourselves seriously, then no one else will. Since no child is supposed to be out there without their parent/guardian, then the aforementioned parent/guardian should be advised that their child cannot participate without North Texas gear on. A supply of "exchange gear" should be available when this conversation takes place.
  18. That can't go on forever. If the OL doesn't step up soon, we are going to have a seriously damaged QB. Daniel Maeger knew that, and when he moved around for his own preservation, everyone said "HE'S GOT HAPPY FEET". I'm just as positive as anyone about our overall football future, but losing like this in mid-season (we should have anticipated that someone was eventually going to blitz Vizza all day long) causes me to be a bit concerned. We didn't beat the blitz until almost the end of the 3rd quarter.
  19. I was surprised to hear that this is the same coach that Troy has had since they were D-2 and 1-AA. It's now obvious why he's still there....this guy can change and adjust. And he can acquire new assistant coaches who can do the same. Oh, and one more thing. This guy can obviously evaluate JC talent. I know that Dodge likes to move forward and forget about past bad experiences. But I were him, I'd definitely keep this game film in my "training library".
  20. Does this go back to your Navy days?
  21. Or a brain.
  22. The whole team hardly said anything in the locker room that next week of practice and the following week we had to go back to NE La to play in the first round of the playoffs and they schooled us.
  23. Who said he was missing?
  24. Sweet!
  25. Well, that certainly explains a lot. I'm surprised he that didn't hold the place up while he was at it.
