....and really tackle! You know, the kind of tackling where you put your arms around the runner and drag him down......hard! Not that worthless hit/shoving stuff. -

Sorry would be the correct word alright. There are two schools that always deserve a lousy season.....$MU and ND! -
Nt Daily- Dodge Addresses Athletes Accusations
SilverEagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, go back a little further than 32 years to the 1970 (or 71) season, and there was some unrest on the North Texas team that ran across racial lines. There was a call by some of the black athletes on that football team for a general walk-out. The issue seemed to be very similar to what is being alleged this week. They didn't like some of the attitudes/policies/rules of the (then) head coach Rod Rust. They felt that there was favoritism by the coaching staff, and they felt misunderstood and/or put-upon because of their race. I have no idea if the NAACP was called in on the matter, but the situation was reported in the NT daily. I don't know how it all ended up. But it could be that once it was pointed out to the disgruntled athetes that Rod Rust irritated everyone (black or white), they might have said "Oh, well, nevermind then". -
I noticed that Dunbar is third in the district with a 6+ YPC average, but who is that against? I think he hasn't done too well against tough competition. I'm a bit concerned about this recruit.

Fw*telegram Dodge Surprised By Offensive Struggles
SilverEagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, let's hope so. But this quote concerns me more than anything......Before the game, UNT offensive coaches had calculated Troy's defense as a unit that blitzed just 21 percent of the time. That figure rose to around 75 percent. It seems to me that a crafty coach would spend some time scouting their own team, and try to anticipate what their opponent might be seeing as a weakness. And then try to anticipate what they might throw at them. You can't just totally rely on raw stats. -
WOW! I really like Colt Mahan fun facts! Keep'em comin'!!... .................

That plus the fact that UNT doesn't really need the extra $500M, as hard as that might seem, as they are reaping large oil and gas profits from recent good production on their campus and surrounding acreage. __________________ Assuming that this is true, would the University be inclined to give any of this money to the athletic department? Also, would this money all belong to North Texas, or does some of it have to go to the general fund for all Universities?

While I don't advocate traumatizing a child by refusing him/her access to the event because of the gear they are wearing, I also believe that if we don't take ourselves seriously, then no one else will. Since no child is supposed to be out there without their parent/guardian, then the aforementioned parent/guardian should be advised that their child cannot participate without North Texas gear on. A supply of "exchange gear" should be available when this conversation takes place.

That can't go on forever. If the OL doesn't step up soon, we are going to have a seriously damaged QB. Daniel Maeger knew that, and when he moved around for his own preservation, everyone said "HE'S GOT HAPPY FEET". I'm just as positive as anyone about our overall football future, but losing like this in mid-season (we should have anticipated that someone was eventually going to blitz Vizza all day long) causes me to be a bit concerned. We didn't beat the blitz until almost the end of the 3rd quarter.

I was surprised to hear that this is the same coach that Troy has had since they were D-2 and 1-AA. It's now obvious why he's still there....this guy can change and adjust. And he can acquire new assistant coaches who can do the same. Oh, and one more thing. This guy can obviously evaluate JC talent. I know that Dodge likes to move forward and forget about past bad experiences. But I were him, I'd definitely keep this game film in my "training library".

Does this go back to your Navy days?

Or a brain.

The whole team hardly said anything in the locker room that next week of practice and the following week we had to go back to NE La to play in the first round of the playoffs and they schooled us.

Piss On Baylor
SilverEagle replied to H-towngreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Well, that certainly explains a lot. I'm surprised he that didn't hold the place up while he was at it. -
Well, if we are going to try and bring the sons of former OU stars into our program, I would really rather see the son(s) of any of the Selmon brothers come here to play. Because, as we saw this last week-end, outstanding DL play makes a BIG difference in the outcome of the game.

Todd, did you get that proposed T-shirt that you showed me at the SMU game approved?

The Price I Paid Tonight For Being "firefightnrick"
SilverEagle replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
After talking with Rick about this incident, let me clear up something. According to Rick, the coach in question did not say a word to Rick. What he did do was walk very purposefully toward Rick as if he were going to physically attack him. When he didn't attack him, Rick (still stunned by the look on the coach's face and his body language) said "good game coach" and offered to shake the coach's hand. The offer was not accepted by the coach, and while still staring at Rick in a threatening/angry manner, he walked away. Rick's son watched the whole incident and then ask Rick why that man was mad at him. This is still a very classless act on the part of the coach in question. I offer this clarification, because Illuvius32 and I were (as we shared a beer during tailgating) laughing and remembering my "incident" two years ago. Illuvius32 commented that by the time the story gets told (and re-told) a few years from now, the person telling the story will have me and Coach Flannigan up in the stands fighting with light sabers. -

That's what I've been saying for years. And I'll repeat what I said to Coach Dickey when he personally called me to apologize for his coach's behavior. If anyone at the North Texas athletic department (administrative or coaching staff) think they have a stressful job, then they need to leave and try working at any of the B-12, B-10 or SEC schools. Overall, North Texas fans are the most friendly, non-aggressive, and respectful fans you will ever come across. I have never heard of a North Texas fan calling Coaches and/or athletic personel on the phone and harassing them. I've never heard of NT fans putting for sale signs in Coach's yards, or writing and/or vandalizing their personal vehicles. Compared to Texas Tech, A$M and OU fans, North Texas fans are choir boys/girls. Yes, we yell our disapproval, and yes, we are a bunch of smart-asses.......well most of us anyway . But compared to the Baylor fans who post on their fan board, we are the most christian fans you will ever come across. And BTW, I don't like this incident at all. -
Carter was at least a pacificist but he was a do-nothing. His stigma will forever be the Iran hostage crisis. That crisis was a long time in arriving. But it was inevitable, since our CIA (during a Republican administration) toppled the legitimate government that the Iranians elected (in the mid-50's), and installed the Shah. The everyday Iranian never forgot, or forgave, the US for that. And it all unfortunately came to a crisis under Carter. I'd say that the ultimate body count on that crisis was pretty minimal, and the hostages eventually came home. It would have been much higher if we had had a dull-witted chest beater as a President. Maybe you have to be a little devious to get things accomplished in Washington. Look no further than the classic movie of your era "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939) for the answer to that.

I get out a lot more than the population who voted for (as Garrison Keohler calls him) "the current occupant of the White house". I've come to the sad conclusion, that lately, Americans (especially men) choose thier Presidents like they choose their women.....Big Boobs instead of Big Brains. The only way "the current occupant" will ever win a Nobel Prize is if they ever award one for Jingoism.

Yeah, I suppose that Jimmy Carter would have been liked better by the public if he had sent troups into Egypt instead of working to negotiate a peace during a very volatile time in the middle east. He probably would have been better liked if he had spent more time clearing brush with a chainsaw on his family farm, instead of going out and helping to build houses for the poor.
