  1. Ok, the latest "Recruiter Insider" is in the ST this morning. In the "Area 50" list 5 out of the 8 DL prospects are "undecided". Out of those 5, I would like to put two players on my early recruiting shopping list. Hector Negrete, Arlington Sequin, 6'3" X 280 Robert Griddin, Euless Trinity, 6'7" X 328
  2. What will your new name be? Can we make some suggestions?
  3. "Dodge set about the task of finding UNT's problems late last night." With all due respect to coach Dodge, and that respect is considerable on my part, he should have started this "finding" process much sooner (pun intended) in the year.
  4. Oh yes! We also call each other before each game to talk about what we're going to wear........ ........
  5. Buying it? They're not even renting it.
  6. Did anyone besides me notice that this seems to be an ALL FEMALE cannon crew? Rick, you should be proud of your girls. You trained 'em........... To quote the late ( and great) Bette Davis, "If you want something done well, get a couple of broads to do it".
  7. Let me address the defenders of our defense....or the person in charge of it. This is the ninth game of the season and our defense doesn't seem to be performing (or adjusting) any better than in the first. In our first game we were facing a nationally ranked opponent. In our ninth game, we were not.....not even close. Everyone in the stadium that has any basic knowledge of football knew that only three players were going to get the ball....the FB, the QB....and the pitch man. On the rare occasion that they were going to pass they ALWAYS threw to one player....#89. As one of the all-conference LB's who played under Corky Nelson said (as he was passing in front of me...and was shaking his head in dismay) "QB, FB, pitch-man.....how hard can that be?" We have bascially the same group of defensive players that we had last year....that performed significantly better than this year. When we did arrive at the line of scrimmage to meet the pitch man, and make contact with him, our defense was faced the daunting task of bring down RB's who were a bruising 5'8" X 164, 5'9" X186 & (most dreaded of all) #7 who was 5'6"X 168!!!! Now, all of them were fast and quick, but they almost always gained a yard or two AFTER CONTACT! Has Brandon Monroe lost a step, or is injured to the point that he cannot play? As I recall from the assessments about him when he was a freshman, besides being big (6-2 X 230) he was also very fast. Why is he sitting on the bench and only playing with the special teams? Did he not say "yessir" enough times during spring and fall practice? Why isn't Steve Warren out there? That guy used to bring a big hit with him when he arrived at the point of contact. Who would we have hired instead of our current DC? Well, for one thing, we should have retained Bliel. Failing that, just about any up and coming (from a D-II or 1-AA school) DC would have been happy to come to work here, and probably do a significantly better job than what has been done thus far. Heck, for that matter, we should have put Chuck Peterson in total charge of the defense....for this game anyway. For years he used to be the OC for Air Force.......who ran the wishbone. If ANYONE could have gotten our defense ready for the triple option, it could have been him. I have watched North Texas play for at least three decades and this is absolutely the worst defensive performance (on a season) that I have ever seen. And the irony of this is that "Mean Green" was coined in honor of our (then) ferocious defense.
  8. You know Harry, your talent for understatement is just.......amazing.
  9. Would that "day" be Viet Nam? If so, could you explain the meaning of the term "click" as it applies to distance? Every time you watch a movie about "Nam", someone is using "click..or clicks" as a term of distance. I heard once that it had something to do with artillery.
  10. Let's assume that this game ends up being a sell-out. COULD WE PLEASE NOT MAKE SOME GRAND ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE SELL-OUT? WE WOULD LOOK SOOOOOO PATHETIC TO OUR GUESTS IF WE DID. LET'S JUST ACT LIKE WE'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE.
  11. 1200 tailgate tickets? Where are they going to tailgate?
  12. Wasn't Missouri ranked when they lost to Troy? As I recall, (talent wise) Baylor was about one step above a death penalty team when they came to fouts.
  13. We should move Cliff Higgs to LB. As a safety, he can't cover very well, but I've noticed (mainly in spring games) that he can hit.
  14. ....however, I do have three tickets.
  15. I can't wait to see our OL talent develop. Because until that happens, every one of our opponents are going to be giving us the "Troy treatment",........ and it won't matter how great our receivers are.
  16. Too bad, I was really looking forward to it.
  17. Public school teachers are the first to have to put up with this kind of parenting. And then the police get to deal with it. Ultimately prison guards get to live with it.
  18. Kind of scary isn't it? However, my wife would love to fire off the cannon sometime......only she'd prefer that it have a projectile in it.
  19. Talk about a culture change.
  20. Here's the problem that I have with all this. Unless someone is heard by more than one person using racist language (the N word being the most common) and/or sends a letter to the editor, and/or publishes a paper about how one race is inferior to another, the issue of them being "racist" is almost totally driven by "perception". A child who has been molested most of her life is going to "perceive" that all adult males are either potential molesters, or are in fact, all child molesters. This is her "perception" from what has been her life experience thus far. But just because she says that she's uncomfortable around an adult male, doesn't make him a child molester.
  21. To Todd Jorgenson. Dear Todd. As to your problems/concerns about "page-layout-decision-making-I-have-other-people-wanting-coverage-for-their-own-schools etc" .....BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. You made the decision to run the negative story on the front page. And since journalist are bound by ethics* to present fair and balanced coverage of any story, your explaination holds absolutely no water with me. I'm very sorry that the other side of the story did not come around at a more convenient time for you. But if a professional is conducting himself in an ethical manner, he/she should give both sides of the story the same placement in the paper. Otherwise the person making the decision about story placement is essentially BIASED. This is a story that can, and will, effect Coach Dodge's chosen profession. As far as I'm concerned, when you made the decision to run it in the first place, you made an ethical decision to cover it in a fair and unbiased manner.......and (IMHO) that includes placement of the story(s). *Am I making a big assumption about journalist being bound by ethics?.
  22. "The Aggies are embarrassed right now," athletic director Bob Byrne said in October. "This has been a very unfortunate incident we do not want to experience again." You know, if they aren't embarrassed by any of their stupid traditions and/or stupid behavior at football games, then why should this incident embarrass them?
  23. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1...y_Python%29.jpg SO! What shall it be? Torture by THE (dish drying) RACK?, the COMFY CUSHIONS, or (insert diabolical laughter here) THE COMFY CHAIR!
  24. I don't know what their academic standards are, but If they are anything like the schools in La. we are always going to be at a disadvantage. I think that most of the schools in La. just require that you be able to chew gum and walk at the same time in order to get in.
  25. Our defense had better show up with the same attitude that they had during the ULM game.......only moreso.
