This Is Just A Continuation For Wkunsportsmanlike
SilverEagle replied to eulessismore's topic in Mean Green Football
Geez, do we really need crap like this in the SunBelt? -
Looks pretty classy. He mentioned that we were penalized more than them.

Are you sure he was in charge?

The last time SMU was successful, they bought all their players as well as their coach. SMU is not a school that the "regular guy and/or joe six-pack" identifies with. They are never going to get people in the metroplex excited about them. And if they put up the money for a big name coach (current or former), people will just laugh at them for throwing away all that money. Baylor is in a similar situation. People are never going to identify with Baylor like they do with other schools. Baylor can try and throw money at big name coaches, but the only coach that has ever been successful there was Grant Teaff. They need to go out and find the next up and coming Grant Teaff, regardless of how well he's known, or where he's from, and save themselves a lot of money. And BTW, the reason why it doesn't matter if he's a known name or not is who the hell ever heard of Grant Teaff before he arrived at Baylor? Baylor and SMU would be smart to go take a good look at Don Carthel at WTA$M. For that matter, A$M would be smart to look at him too......after they've officially fired Fran. It's like North Texas. The only coach that ever got the alumni and the metroplex excited about North Texas football was Hayden Fry. The reason was not only his coaching abilites, but his ability to get out there and promote the program, promote the program AND promote the program. .....did I mention promote the program? So Hayden Fry leaves, and what do the "old nesters" at North Texas do? They go out and hire the most opposite coach to Hayden Fry that they could find....both in style and personality. Now, 30 years later we finally bring in a "Hayden Fry-like" coach and look at how excited everyone is about our team...as well as our future. Now, if we could only bring in another Bill Brasher to run the defense.....

Since I attended the Navy game and observed our mostly (or maybe all) female cannon crew, I've been thinking that they need their own unique t-shirt. Especially since they've done (from my observation) as good a job as any male cannon crew. My suggestion is a t-shirt featuring the legendary Mary Ludwig Hayes McCauly or "Molly Pitcher" who manned her husbands cannon after he was wounded at the battle of Monmouth. Here is a link to her story, and (IMHO) a great illustration to use for the t-shirt. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...=image&cd=3 Women have made great contributions to our traditions. Julia Smith wrote the music for our alma mater (words by Charles Langford), and Sydney Graham coined our most famous nickname "Mean Green".

People who get 4 mil a year to coach football obviously don't think that anything is more important than them.....or what they do. They're like movie/TV/pro sports stars..........it's all about me.

The question is.....who's barn is going to get burned.

Well, we had worse problems with Memphis. We played them for the first time in 1952 and won. We picked up the series again in 1960 and went on a 14 game losing streak with them until 1975 (it looks like we didn't play them in 66). Our 73, 74 and 75 losses were when Fry was coaching. We were out of the conference with them in 74 and 75 and we didn't play them in 76. If Hayden was going to drop a series because it didn't appear winable, then Memphis would have been the school to drop after the 73 season. Instead we kept playing them, and beat them in 77 and 78. Jerry Moore split with them in 79 and 80. We can beat Tulsa.

Fitzgeral Breaks Receiving Marks, Drc/vitto Article
SilverEagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
They keep mentioning John Love only. While John Love is probably my favorite receiver of all time, the record was a tie between him and Barry Moore. John Love did establish the record first however. There are some similarities between Fitz and John Love. They both got a lot of yards-after-catch. Also, good to see Fitz get this record in 10 games. 1966, John Love, 68 catches, 1130 yrds, 16.9 yrds per catch. 1969, Barry Moore, 71 catches, 1130 yrds, 15.9 yrds per catch. 2007, Casy Fitzgerald, 96 catches, 1184 yrds, 12.3 yards per catch. -
He now has over 91?

Frisco-little Elm Ark State Game Watching
SilverEagle replied to GreenMachine's topic in Mean Green Football
After the Directv channels were put up on the board, I called a new Buffalo Wild Wings and asked the manager if they can get it on Directv. He said that they weren't getting any indication that they were, but they did have Directtv. For people in the Parker County and west north/west Tarrant county area, there is a new Buffalo Wild Wings in Lake Worth. -
Makes me wish that I liked basketball.

Not as old as not being able to enjoy an exciting offensive show, because you know that the other team will come right back with a score.....and then you begin to worry about going three and out, because you know you'll alway be behind from then on. THATS OLD.........but I do understand your point.

Nt Daily Blog - Nt / Navy Game Comments/report Card
SilverEagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I watched my first North Texas game around 1963, and I too watched the Hayden Fry transition. When our defense went up against a good running tean in ULM, they didn't look slow to me....they looked very motivated. In the Navy game, they looked OK for the first half. But they looked confused, demoralized and/or down right beaten in the second half. You've alluded to the possibility that the current members of GMG.com would have been impatient with Hayden Fry the first year or so that he was here. That first year, Hayden cobbled together a bunch of leftovers from Rod Rusts 1-10 team and any others that he could find (walk-ons etc) and put together a 5-5-1 team. The next year the team took a step back at 2-7-2, but in those two years our worst losses were 3-52 to Cincinatti, 9-56 to San Diego St., and 0-41 to Memhis. Hayden did not start his career with a defense that had 9 returning starters. He would have probably had a much better record those first two years if he had. -
How else are they going to be able to have any meat for their families for the rest of the winter?...

aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. Folks, we're not talking about someone who patted a girl on her butt, and she got mad about it. We're talking about someone who used violence, or the threat of violence, to force sex on a 12 YEAR OLD......HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL!

Defensive Historical Contrasts.

Chuck Peterson not only saw it, he ran it (for years and years) at Air Force as OC for Coach DeBerry (sp?). -
Defensive Historical Contrasts.
SilverEagle replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Corky (and his DC's) definitely put the "Mean" in the "Mean Green". Damn! I miss those defenses. The best example of "hitting anything that moves" was the 86 TCU game. I used to work around a former TCU player from that era. He used to point out that TCU gave up 6 turnovers in that game, and I used to point out to him that TCU gave us nothing.......WE KNOCKED THE HELL OUT OF THEM THE WHOLE GAME! -
