  1. I want a journalist covering our sports program, not some homer that disguises him/herself as a journalist. Like the ones that cover UT, OU, TT, A$M etc. I would have to say that the "potential beat down" comment was historically accurate. At least as it relates to our series with LSU. I see the comment as being one of "concern" for our program, rather than as a comment that is lacking in tact.
  2. Was Milton Collins a Parade All-American?
  3. I laughed out loud when he started talking about "Administration" in relation to that screw-up. The administration doesn't make recruitment decisions, the head coach does. The only decision that the administration makes is the decision on how much to pay (and in this case overpay) a coach. $MU really would have been better off not having this guy on live TV. He is very unimpressive.
  4. DG, I'm wondering if you could make your feelings/expectations any more clear. I nominate you to replace RV if he should leave NT anytime soon.
  5. I can just hear DeLoach now. Getting his defense worked up and yelling at the offense to "bring it on". It's time to bring back the real MEAN GREEN.
  6. Let's not get too full of ourselves. That's what most people call us.
  7. Not worried. I just sent him a joke, and wanted him to check his e-mail..........nosy.
  8. Rick, check your e-mail.
  9. Isn't that the case with all deals?
  10. ......and no M.D. can say he/she went to med school at North Texas either. But a D.O. could.
  11. Well, if he works for the University, I would imagine that he would speak highly of it. What does he do for the University?
  12. IMHO, If Michael Irvin had any sort of talent as a coach, or as a scout, someone in the pros would have given him a shot by now.
  13. According to these stats, Texas Tech has played a total of 910 games, and we've played a total of 920 games. Texas Tech was established in February of 1923, so 1924 would have to be their first year of football. By the fall of 1924 North Texas had already played 68 football games. Has Tech gone to that many bowl games?
  14. In keeping with my tendency to provide historical information/perspective, I offer this. Cedric Hardman (68-69, the other all-pro lineman that we keep forgetting about), supposedly transferred to North Texas as a safety. Before he left, he had grown into a 6'4" X 240lbs DE and was a high draft choice of the SF 49ers. The license plate on his car said "NASTY". I'm told that he earned that nickname while he was still at North Texas. The most positive thing that I saw about this yong man was that he used to play TE, which means that he has some speed.......at least before he started growing. My question is this. Who made the assessment on this young man and then advised Coach Dodge to pull the trigger on this offer? I'd feel a lot better if it was someone like Chuck Peterson, or "Lefty", rather than one of the other first year coaches. BTW, Stony Brooke is in Stony Brook N.Y. Their web-site gives you the impression that they are the MIT of New York. Between S.B. and Fordham being interested, it sounds like this young man will not be an academic liability.
  15. Fishing?
  16. Chairbacks? More than likely you'll be standing most of the game anyway, so what do you need them for? If you want to acquire something that's much more practical, take a look a this product. http://www.kitchenkapers.com/black-microcore-lava-buns.html In fact, if the people at the athletic dept. want to come up with a practical premium for MGC members, this product would be great. You freeze it the day before the game, and it helps keep you (or your buns) cool during hot weather. When it's not hot or cold, it serves as a seat cushion. In cold weather, you microwave it before you leave for the stadium and (as the name implies) it keeps your buns warm.
  17. Assuming that he comes to North Texas, he will not be able to play until the 2009 season.
  18. A friend of mine told me a funny story a long time ago, about a couple of "town characters" in Decatur who happened to encounter one another in a public place. Both of them were (in their own way) the village idiots, but on that day they were standing there having a conversation (after a fashion) with one another, and trying to make fun of each another in the process. Each time one of them thought that they had "gotten one over" on the other, they would turn to my friend and wink and smile as if to say "this guy is an idiot". My friend would just stand there and smile back at each of them in agreement, until he got bored with it, and just walked away. Hmmmmm, I wonder why this story suddenly came to mind?...............
  19. Speaking of passion and heart.........
  20. According to the UCLA site, he was hired in January of 03. So the question would be what day in January was he hired? DeLoach has coached in the Texas system long enough to be vested in it as well. My guess is that he's trying to pad his retirement package when he finally retires. I don't blame him for wanting to retain that benefit, because medical benefits are much more valuable to a retiree than the small amount of annunity he will receive from the California system. I'm also guessing that his wife is on his California medical plan, and he wants to make sure that she always has medical coverage. California probably has a more "liberal" state retirement plan than Texas, especially about medical coverage. I'm just guessing about that though. North Texas (and all the othe state Universities in Texas) are on the Teacher retirement system. As I stated before, he's easily vested in the Texas system, but I don't know how it would work about medical coverage if you have not continually worked and payed into the system. If he comes back to coach at North Texas, then he'll be paying into the system again, and he'll be building more equity into his Teachers retirement plan. So, unless some private school offers him a LOT of money, and he's very good at investing it, he would have more incentive to come back to coach at a State University. AND, if he comes back to North Texas, I'm sure a certain North Texas letterman (who happens to be very good at money management) would be happy to give him some good investment advise to "enhance" his retirement annunity.
  21. What an interesting thought.
  22. Well, he also has D-1 football playing experience, and didn't he play under DeLoach as a safety? If DeLoach comes back, then there will be much less of a learning curve for Coach Archie to learn his system. Come to think of it, because he played for DeLoach, he might be slightly ahead of the other defensive coaches. He also experienced a position change when he came to North Texas (from RB to Safety), and IMHO that would give him a great amount of insight in helping the new players (or any of them for that matter) change positions from what they played in HS, to playing in the defensive backfield.
  23. So Hill was offered a "ship" to Rice? I guess that means we don't have to worry about him making his grades every year.
