After the 1981 season, Greene retired and was quickly enshrined into the NFL Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Not only that, the nickname of his alma mater North Texas changed to the "Mean Green” in honor of its most famous alum. I shouldn't be surprised at this statement. Many North Texas alumni also believe this.

I've stood outside the fence and talked with him too. I didn't think he had a "lil' ol' North Texas" attitude, but if he did, who could blame him for presenting us that way, when our own administration has had the same attitude for DECADES. And there is no more evidence of that than our BOR's reluctance to impose an additional athletic fee. Schools who took themselves seriously haven't hesitated to do this, yet our administration keeps projecting the "lil ol' North Texas" image every time it passes up the opportunity to take the next step forward. I'm going to say this for what seems to be the 157th time. Vito is a professional reporter, not a spin doctor for the athletic department.

I always thought that Sykes looked more like a DE than a LB.

"Unless someone wants to convince me of Ramon Flanigan's quarterback development skills," I promise you that that won't come from me....... Excellent post i-32! I've always felt that D. Meager should get some sort of special award for all he has had to "endure" since coming to North Texas. Starting with the coaching ( ) he received, and ending with the wonderful support ( ) he's received from the fans on this board. It's my fondest hope that Daniel goes out and becomes a mulit-millionaire after graduating from North Texas. I can only imagine what the conversation would be like when someone from North Texas contacted him about contributing to some athletic project....

KRLD just reported that Abner HINES was one of the inductees. I sent them an e-mail.

You got pumped watching them in helmets and shorts?........dang!

That's why I like the original Scrappy. He's an Eagle with a MEAN look on his face. His full image may not be big and muscular, but the look on his face clearly conveys the message that "YOU DO NOT WANT TO MESS WITH ME". The look on his face also conveys my mantra "I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE".

I can't believe that Parrott Eagle is still around.

....ahhh, but if they resist, we then get to use the lash..... Wow, this sounds better and better.

Montgomery is his birth name. Epps was the name of the family that adopted him. It's amazing that Corbin did not end up in the prison system considering how much anger he had toward the system (and I certainly don't blame him for that), and life in general. Many times I observed him during a game, walking back and forth in front of the players sitting on the bench, ranting and raving and challenging them to play with as much intensity as him......or even half as much intensity. He was the Mean Green when he was here. Gary DeLoach would have loved to have had Corbin on his team, as would Corky Nelson. We should invite him back to give "intensity clinics" in the spring and fall practices.

he don't understand why Mendoza............. Most of us on this board could start a sentence with that phrase...........many sentences as a matter of fact.

21--Squier, Weston; RB, 5-8, 160, Fr., Sanger, TX (Sanger HS) Had 69 carries for 536 yards and 4 TDs his senior season. 38--Miller, Emanuel; RB, 5-8, 192, Fr., Waco, TX (Lake Highlands HS) Did not play his senior year. As a Junior had 18 carries for 116 yards, 1 TD. 2 catches for 18 yards. If these guys have gotten an invite, then I'm assuming that Joshua Moldonado (who at one time was outplaying Evan Roberson in the spring of 06) is too injured to continue as a walk-on.

Yeah, I don't think you're rude and condescending enough to be hired as the director of the MGC. Besides, you know too much about the program and the fan base, and you might have some viable ideas about how to motivate them. Plus, you hold a degree from North Texas.

I sure do miss Strother Martin. As to complaints. I tend to agree that a viable solution should accompany any complaint posted on this board. I used to have a supervisor who used to have a very effective method of dealing with complaints. When she heard someone consistently complain about something at unit meetings, would assign that person to head a committee to study the problem, and come back at the next unit meeting with some viable solutions.

Yep, those were the days. I even remember a TV drama (probably playhouse 90, because Hallmark Hall of fame wouldn't have done something so dramatic) produced during that time, and it was about that very subject. A college kid went to his college prof's house to discuss changing his failing grade. If the prof didn't change the grade, then the student would flunk out, get drafted, and the student was sure that he would end up dead in some rice paddy in Viet Nam. The Prof refused to change the grade and so the student pulled out a weapon and took him hostage. I can't remember how the hostage situation ended, or even if the police were called. But the Prof was forced to view his decision to flunk or not flunk students in a much different light. Different times.

Other Uses For A New Football Stadium?

Amtrak uses freight lines. They just work out right of way issues. Sidings off exsisting rail lines can be built much easier than running a new rail line and/or rail spur somewhere. -

I can't imagine what someone with a degree in Sports Administration knows that someone with a degree in business administration/marketing doesn't know. The job in question is a MARKETING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE JOB! You come in, familiarize yourself with the product, and go out and sell it! A North Texas alum would have a big advantage because they have some knowledge of the product. And they know (or should know) how to talk up the positive, and play down the negative.

The "certain lady" in question wasn't drafted. She came here of her own free will, knowing full well what the pay was going to be. If she didn't like it (the working conditions), she could have gone back where she came from. And then maybe someone fresh out of the North Texas school of business (ideally marketing), who wanted to make a name for themselves so that they could move on to bigger things, could have taken the job.

Wow, the opportunity for a cheap joke is all that you got out of that very thoughtful post?

Greenexes, aren't you concerned that the Exes Logo nazis will smite you for not having EXES at the bottom of your Avatar?...........

2008 Recruiting Rewind - Quarterbacks
SilverEagle replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Keep in mind that Vizza has had almost a full year of actual D-1 playing experience under his belt. He knows, both mentally and physically, how it feels to apply the theory of Coach Dodge's offense to real time situations. This experience is going to make his spring practice even more productive for him....or at least it should. If Vizza is still developing, then it would take a very extraordinary QB/athlete to unseat him right out of HS. But what do I know. I thought the same thing right after a certain QB set a single game passing record that will probably never be broken at North Texas.
