  1. The original Flying Worm color is not the same as Chad's car. Chad's is kelly and the "Worm" was lime or candy apple green. Kelly would work fine on a new worm. I'll buy the second one.
  2. No, he played NG at UNM, and then played DE for Simon when he got here.
  3. The murder happened around ten years ago (possibly longer). The player in question had played out his eligibility at NT. The murder took place at some sporting goods store in the Garland area. There were two or three other people involved in the murder. In one of the stories about the murder, they contacted Corkey by phone and interviewed him. I think he was still coaching at Seguin H.S. when they called him for the interview. It was James Langston. The murder happened in 1992. Here is a story about the other people involved. http://cbs11tv.com/local/Execution.Inmate....r.2.506699.html
  4. I've heard the same thing about male brain development. However, by the time most human beings get to be about 10 years old they know the basic difference between right and wrong. And that includes males. I wonder if the insurance industry knew this information about brain development long before the general public knew it. Their rates for male drivers (assuming you have no wrecks or tickets) changes at 25. It's been that way for decades. This could be worse. He could have been involved in a murder. A former NT lineman, who played for Corkey Nelson, was involved in a murder in Dallas. I think the player in question was from Kaufman. I don't know if he was older or younger than 25 at the time. Obviously going to college didn't help his judgment.

  6. Similar to these. http://www.unt.edu/50yearsofprogress/album...92_football.htm I'm not looking for a North Texas jersey, just a company that might make generic ones in this style. And BTW, here is a picture of a very loaded (talent-wise) North Texas team. http://www.unt.edu/50yearsofprogress/album...tball_group.htm
  7. Now that's funny! Jack, when was the last time someone called you a lad?
  8. Well, in light of all of the grotesque coaches salaries out there, I suppose that TD is a steal. From what I can remember about his HS salary, he's still making about twice as much money as our coach. When he finally proves himself (in the eyes of the big time programs) as a D-1 coach, then we will be hard pressed to keep him around. Unless of course, the (hoped for) success that he has here, will cause some of our monied alums to finally come forward to contribute to the program in a big time manner.
  9. Would you gladly work for the minimum wage that was being paid then?
  10. I have always had the highest regard for this school, even before I was accepted here as a student. It has always been a great institution of higher learning. And nothing has happened in the last 32 years since I've graduated to change my perception of that. I have absolutely no regrets about the decision to attend North Texas. This school has always had a proud tradition of education. And while it's never won a national championship in football or basketball, it's loyal fans are just as devoted as any of the fans of any Texas University. This University has history, and it has made history. Yet instead of talking about all that, our University publication chooses to talk about what a great value our degree is. Our GREAT University deserves better than that.
  11. No one is suggesting that the school raise the price of tuition. The problem that I have with the ad is that North Texas has been an institution of higher learning for 127 years. We have gained international recognition for at least one of our programs, and national recognition for others. Yet our school's publication chooses to lead with a discussion about value in it's ad? Do you think that it's an ok thing that we still get referred to as a commuter school? After all, commuter schools are also a great value. To me, comparing us to UA, OkSt, and South Carolina is not valid because they are not struggling with loyalty and/or image issues. Everyone knows who they are, and they never get tagged with such dismissive terms like "commuter school". When you mainly talk about value in your ad, it sounds commuter school....ish. How about having someone like your student assistant talk about how she loves North Texas because all of the wonderful COLLEGE AND/OR CAMPUS LIFE EXPERIENCES that she has had. And no, she doesn't need to mention that North Texas was not her first choice. She can do that in a private conversation. Why didn't they talk about what a wonderful school this is? How it has a long and great academic tradition. You could still talk about value. Just put it in the smaller print.....like they did about our academics.
  12. Why don't we just take this to it's next logical step. Replace Dr. B, with BILLY MAYS.
  13. Believe me, the people that are looking for a great value in education will find it without the help of advertising. It's therefore foolish (and low rent) for us to advertise ourselves that way. If the school wants alumni who give back to the school, then they are pandering to the wrong crowd with this ad. I certainly hope that this is not the best ad that our marketing department could come up with.
  14. Jim, I've noticed that for years. I totally agree with Rick's (and others) view of the ad. I thought the same thing when I saw it.
  15. Jackson sounds like the Banzai-type kick returner that I've been hoping for.
  16. Phil, you come to this board and declare that some of us are crazy? When you consider that the old laman's description of crazy was "dealing with a problem the same ineffective way over and over again, and each time expecting a different outcome" pretty much describes a North Texas fan, then I have to ask.....what's your point? BTW, don't forget to pay the toll...........
  17. They paid 4.5 mil to terminate the lease? Well, that just about does it for me. I'm pretty convinced that something big is about to happen. Either that, or our administration has just been duped like a bunch of back-country rubes.
  18. To me, multi-use can mean the same thing as how Texas Stadium is used. Texas stadium was built for football, but it's been used for many more things. Outdoor concerts would be the first thing that comes to mind.
  19. I would rather plan a group trip to Kansas. However, that's a long trip and would probably involve one overnight stay. According to google maps, the trip to Kansas State would be about 484 from my house (in Fort Worth on the North Side of Saginaw), so that's about 450 from Denton. The drive time is estimated to be approximately 7 hours. Houston is 280 miles and 4 1/2 hours from my house.
  20. You obviously haven't had any experience with selling things (or trying to sell things) to North Texas students. First of all. They would expect the beer to be free (don't my student service fees cover that?). And second of all. Even if the beer was free, many of them would bitch that it was either too cold, or not cold enough.....or not the right brand.
  21. Does the school need another dorm at this time?
  22. I'm grateful that we are now a magnet for outstanding offensive players. But I would really rather hear about a player who is showing interest in us who appears to be the second coming of Joe Greene. Actually I would like to hear about several players of that description.
  23. 2008 North Texas Football- When we say the "Mean Green" we're not talking about an STD
  24. It was sometime in the mid to late 60's and North Texas was in the midst of a very hard fought game (opponent unknown). The whole North Texas defense already had a reputation as being very tough and aggressive, and when the offense scored to go ahead in the game, it was up to the defense to "seal the deal". In the press box that evening was the North Texas SID Fred Graham and his wife Sydney Graham....both North Texas graduates. The story goes that Sydney, in her excitement over the game, and in her zeal to give encouragement to the defense, shouted something like "Come on Mean Green" or "Let's go Mean Green". She liked the nickname so much that she pestered her husband to start using it in his press releases. Fred Graham remembers that, at the time, he thought the nickname sounded a bit corny. But he eventually relented, and the rest is history. It may be that Sydney's idea to give the North Texas defensive unit it's own nickname came from one of the LSU traditions regarding their defense. Here's the story from Wikipedia. Chinese Bandits – Whenever LSU forces a turnover or gets the ball back via a defensive stop, the LSU band plays the Chinese Bandit tune. The entire stadium bows to the defense while the tune is played. The term "Chinese Bandits" originated as the nickname that LSU Coach Paul Dietzel gave to the defensive unit he organized in 1958, which helped LSU to win its first national championship. The next season, the 1959 Chinese Bandit defense held their opponents to an average of only 143.2 yards per game. No LSU defense since has done better.
