Did anyone see the film clip of the Rice Coach (and the mascot) standing out in the main area of the Rice Campus giving away Pizza to the Rice students and encouraging them to come to the game? Now, THAT is a hard working coach. Regardless of how things work out with TD, when he moves on, North Texas needs to hire someone very much like that Rice coach or Don Carthel at WT A&M.... http://www.amarillo.com/stories/082408/wts_wtsports1.shtml Of course, if some coach showed up in the middle of the North Texas campus giving away slices of Pizza, eventually some of the students would bitch that theirs was cold, or didn't have enough cheese.....or "why can't I have more than one slice?". After all, they are North Texas students......

Beer Question. Which Brand To Drink At Tailgating?
SilverEagle replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
College days: Schlitz or Old Milwaukee. One summer there was a package store that opened in Lake Dallas that was selling Old Mil for .88 per six pack. The Sig Eps were buying it by the (car) trunk load and putting it in their coke machine in their rec room. They set the price at .50 per can and sold every can they had. Now, I've acquired a taste for the new Bud light lime. Sam Adams light is very good. Of course, Alien Ale (for an out of this world taste) is still my favorite. -

You can also get that, along with other very "unique" beers, at World Market. -

According to Hayden Fry (as written in his book) he was approached by monied supporters of the SMU program who urged him to buy players. He refused. Scroll to page 83 of his book. http://books.google.com/books?id=xFHvs1vNc...result#PPA89,M1 Now, as fond as I am of Coach Fry, he told a big fat lie to a reporter in Iowa who interviewed him for a 2004 article. Here is the quote from the article.... Hayden Fry knew it was time to move on when the pressing matter of the day was the layout of the women's locker room in the new basketball facility at North Texas State. "As athletic director at North Texas State, I'd just hustled $26 million to build a new basketball arena," Fry, 75, recalled last week. "The women's coach knocked on my door, said there's an emergency and could I walk across the street with her to the arena. "When I got there, we talked 35 minutes about how to arrange the women's locker room. I hustled $26 million and we've got an emergency with the bathroom. "I walked back across the street and said to myself, 'Fry, you're out of your mind. We're going someplace else.' '' The rest is University of Iowa football history. Fry became the most recognized coach in the state while revitalizing a Hawkeye program that had suffered through 19 straight non-winning seasons. The basketball facility that he is talking about is the super pit. He had NOTHING to do with the fund raising and building of that facility. It was all done long before he arrived at North Texas. Same four seats.

Oh man! If Jordan Case is involved, it's definitely going to happen. This is the guy who started off selling cars with no prior experience, and is now the President of Park Place Lexus. He's my all-time favorite QB at North Texas. That would be #8 on your program ladies and gentlemen.

Beer Question. Which Brand To Drink At Tailgating?
SilverEagle replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, if Ben E. Keith is still supporting North Texas football, then I would go with Bud Light Lime. It is the ONLY Bud product that I have ever liked. I have yet to try a Rahr product that wasn't too hoppy. I hate hoppy beer. -

I'm not sure what you're asking for. Bud (who sponsors NT Football) is foreign owned, and Shiner doesn't sponsor North Texas football......nor does anyone else. Are you asking for suggestions for a new sponsor? Everyone who knows me, knows that my favorite brewery is Sierra Blanca in Moriarity NM. http://www.sierrablancabrewery.com/ They do custom brews for people/organizatons so it wouldn't be too much trouble for them to brew up some kegs of Mean Green ale or lager. I'm sure John Denver could come up with a good formula/recipe.......or they could just re-label the Alien Ale. -
Now this is turning into a fun thread......

It seems like I read a few years ago about a local business that did vehicle graphics, and had developed some North Texas graphics for pick-ups. Does anyone know the name of this business?
-
I've always been a bit resentful about that ST headline, even though I know they are the home town paper for TCU. TCU did not give away all those fumbles, the NT defense knocked the dog s**t out of TCU and they let go of the ball.....eight times. The funny thing is that Coach Wacker warned everyone on his television show that the game would be a real hard hitting game.......I guess his team didn't listen.

For those who prefer a charcoal grill....... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8304492 ...and for those who wish to fly the MEAN GREEN colors..... http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate....e+To+Go+-+20%27 ...the fiberglass version...... http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate....amp;item=369046 With either one, don't forget to order the mounting system of your choice. I recommend the tire mount.

Did Appalachian State change their name to Marshall?

Excellent points. PLUS everyone needs to remember that a very experienced D-1 O-line coach is making this decision to start Gill.
-
I agree with Jack. And this quote (to me anyway) seems to confirm his theory. "What Gill gives up in size, he makes up for with technique and intelligence," UNT head coach Todd Dodge said. "He will put a body in front of somebody. What this says to me is that any DE or DT that wants to get to Vizza will literally have to go through Gill. I read the coaches comments as meaning that, unless Gill is playing across the line from the Incredible Hulk, and gets thrown around like a rag doll, he's going to always be between the DE/DT and Vizza, ........until Vizza gets rid of the ball. I'll take that any day over some hulking lineman that can only watch as some fast DE or DT blows by him. Also keep in mind that even though the quotes about Gill come from Dodge, the decision to move Gill to that position is being made by a very experienced D-1 O-line coach.

Happy B-day Jack!! It looks like all the great North Texas fans have their birthdays in the summer.........

I'll Say It Loud And Clear So Everybody Will
SilverEagle replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
So do I. We'll never win games against the KS's of the world by thinking in terms of "well, realistically.........". -
You never heard Hayden Fry say things like "we're just glad to be here" or "I hope that when Dr. B looks up at the score board at the end of the game, she remembers that we are making 500K on this game". I was there when DD made that statement, and wanted to get a refund on my tickets, and go home at that point. Corky Nelson always had a much shorter stick (20 fewer ships) than any of the D-1 programs that his teams played against, but he was always swinging that stick as hard as he could from start to finish. I'm wondering why any NT fan would call Shnelly an idiot when we've yet to beat any of his teams.
