Ya'know, I've always believed that if you walk away from something that's real important to you....then it must not have been that important in the first place. I also believe that if you walk away from a group (social or otherwise), political organization etc without giving them an ear-full, then the people you're mad at/discouraged with, will go on with life thinking that they've been doing things right, and that everyone is happy. People who are in charge of big things, and organizations, tend to think that they are infallible, and that they are somehow entitled to their position. I like to remind them that "It ain't necessarily so"*. Write letters to the AD, Dr. B, and the BOR. Post comments on Vito's blog and/or regular sports reports. Go to athletic events, and when you see RV, let him know your are unhappy with how things are. For that matter, send them all e-mails. And finally, you might show up to Fouts next year and take advantage of how close the coaching staff (and the AD) is to the fans.....before they build a new stadium and everyone goes up to their respective suites on the elevator(s). It will also help if you are a MGC member and hold season tickets. *Music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin

Coach Fran stated out his head coaching career at Pittsburg (Kansas) St. At the time it was a D-III school.

Brett Vito: My Advice For A Wounded Unt Program

I don't think she ever lived in the town however. For those who are from Ft Worth, this house was built for Electra by her Daddy, Dan Waggoner. http://historicfortworth.org/Properties/Th...79/Default.aspx She was living in this house while her new home was being built (scroll down to "El Castile") http://www.decaturmainstreet.com/historical.html El Castile was the model for the family home of the "Benedicts" in the Movie "Giant". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_(film) -

Brett Vito: My Advice For A Wounded Unt Program

Deloach has already proven himself to me (as well as other people) that he can coach at the D-1 level. He was one of the last coaches that was hired away from us by a big time program. While you might view my approach as extreme, it's still not as extreme as what some other people are suggesting. -
Brett Vito: My Advice For A Wounded Unt Program

5. Promote DeLoach to assistant head coach "One of the best moves Dodge has made was to bring back Gary DeLoach, an experienced defensive coordinator with a ton of college experience, even if the numbers haven’t shown it yet. DeLoach commands the respect of players, who say they believe in him. Dodge should show faith in DeLoach as well. Make him the associate head coach, and give him some additional authority. Make him the bad cop of the coaching staff and give him the chance to put the fear of God into players who stray from the straight and narrow. After the problems UNT’s players have run into with drugs and the law the last few months, it looks like a few players on the team could use some tough love from a guy like DeLoach. The move might not be anything more than giving a title to a veteran coach, but sometimes those titles matter. " This is one of the best suggestions in his article. If I were the AD, I would not make it a suggestion, I would make it a directive. In addition, I would give DeLoach the power to fire any coach on the defensive side of the ball....and that includes special teams. I would advise Dodge that he has had it his way for two years and it's only produced the worst two year record in NT history. I would advise him that he can still hire and fire people on the offensive side, but those decisions will be given close scrutiny at the end of the 09 season. I would also advise him that, with very few exceptions, all full pad practices will be full speed contact. I would finally say that if he didn't like any of these changes, he always has the option of resigning. -

You obviously have more confidence in RV's abilities than I do. RV is the one who hired the guy in the first place. -
Wonderful post! As I'm fond of saying in circumstances like this "If you're looking for sympathy, let me direct you to the dictionary. It's located somewhere between shit and syphilis"

When I told my wife that I saw a real game today, she said "well, it's about time". Do they only play one or two real games every year under Dodge? Many were proud of the defense during this game, yet while a former Corkey Nelson player was visiting with FFR he kept looking at the defense and kept saying "tackle guys, TACKLE". Most young teams get it together and play a game like this on the second game of the year. I was very pround of Chad Rose today. He did an excellent job.

North Texas Hopes To End With A Win

Hot Dog?!?!. If yelling at a group of coaches (out of extreme frustration) that we are getting out-coached (no profanity...just facts), AND if one of those self-centered-it's-all-about-me coaches decides to make a spectacle of himself by coming into the stands to wave his arms at me and yell like an idiot, makes me a "hot dog", then you must think darn is a cuss word. BTW, I've been watching (off and on) North Texas football since about 1963. I've been a supporter since 1975. I SAID that I too was tired of the nothing new negative posts. You might want to read a little closer.

http://www.star-telegram.com/college_sport...ry/1059669.html Interesting segment called "silent Gio". Look under the "Briefly" section regarding Victor Gill. A sick Victor Gill is better than a healthy Chad Rose? This is friggin absurd.

I too support the North Texas football program, and have since 1975. And I too get tired of the nothing-particularly-new negative posts. But just for the record, the people being slammed are NOT THE PROGRAM. They are the people that were hired to run it. They are therefore fair game. And if they don't like the negative assessments, they can resign and go somewhere else.

Since Daniel is my adopted player, I don't think I have to explain my feelings about this issue. However.......PLAY DANIEL DAMMIT!!.....AND CHAD TOO!

In some ways Dickey is right. This is a difficult coaching situation because of our past (administrative) history, and our inability (or unwillingness) to get everything going at the same time. Fry started dragging us into the modern era of football, but when he got tired of fighting with everyone for the least little bit of resources, he decided that Iowa was a much better situation......and it was. Corky Nelson was the most successful coach we've ever had under the "circumstances" that Dickey complained about. He fielded a lot of very good teams, and did it on the stingy budget that the administrators gave him. Some say he drank too much, but hell I don't blame him. I've never seen a coach at North Texas do more with less resources. It seems like every time we hire a new coach, our administrators/decision makers seem wake up in a new world.

This post represents a trend that is very distressing to me. I've never seen this much loss of heart by this many loyal fans,... and that includes the 1-AA era. Something needs to change....and soon. BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!

John, I've always liked your style. My favorite Liquor has always been Southern Comfort. Everyone knows my favorite beer is Alien Ale. 03, if you're talking about "V".........well...........nevermind.... And for the record, I was sober the last time I sought to inform the coaching staff at North Texas that I was giving them all a poor review. However, a few breakfast-like drinks (bloody Marys and/or orange juice with some sort of alcohol) whilst tailgating this Saturday, and I just might be moved to inform our current football king that he, in fact, has no clothes. Either that, or I can start yelling "PLAY DANIEL AND CHAD,..... THEY'VE BEEN IN YOUR GITMO LONG ENOUGH"

Two More Suggestions For A New Head Coach
SilverEagle replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
IMHO, here is one of the main reasons that Coach Thomsen has been successful at ACU. But I have a passion for ACU, and I'm excited to sell that passion to our players, our recruits, parents, alumni, and our students, faculty and staff," he said. "I've talked to a lot of people about, and I'm excited about bringing them into the fold and getting them involved in this program." The reason they have taken it to a higher level is because of their tailback, Bernard Scott....who seems almost unstoppable. I just wish we had a former NT football player that was an "up and coming" college coach out there that had the same passion for North Texas as Thomsen has for his alma mater, ACU. Otherwise, we need to find an "up and comer" who gets passionate about any place that he makes a committment to. Someone like Don Carthell at WT A&M. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Carthel Before anyone gets critical about D-II coaches, please keep in mind that Coach Fran started out as head coach at NAIA (and later D-II) Pittsburg (Kansas)state. -
Actually it was 1-10, but I get your drift. And in that year, the difference between 1-10 and 4-7 was 10 points.

Choosing Dodge Was A Bold But Risky Choice
SilverEagle replied to HoustonEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
It isn't a matter of what us fans at North Texas have to say, it's what TD had to say. When he said that "coaching is coaching regardless of the level", he basically insulted and pissed-off a lot of coaches out there...........who have coached in college for a long time. It's been suggested to me that that's why we've had the score run up on us a lot......starting with OU. -

We'll never know how many were interested two years ago, but I do know of one. I was told by a reliable source that TD annoyed a lot of college coaches out there when TD declared right after he was hired that "coaching is coaching regardless of the level". Apparently not. -

Well timed! Does everyone remember where they were, and what they were doing, when "the spit hit the Kramer?"

From comments made by some people on this board regarding our stint in 1-AA, that's just what happened to us.....and Denton hardly noticed.
