  1. He seems to be a great assistant. But there is nothing in his resume that tells me that he can take charge of a whole team/system.
  2. give us a list of other predictions from your "good source" that came true.
  3. Just as long as he doesn't use his weapon........😎
  4. If I was told that I had to choose between those two, I would go with Kinne. Lots of experience, pro and college, and he probably has a lot of Texas connections.
  5. THIS is what I have been preaching about for years. We need someone just like this guy. 🏈 Lance Leipold Named Kansas Head Football Coach – Kansas Jayhawks (kuathletics.com)
  6. The North Texas Daily (Denton, Tex.), Vol. 56, No. 56, Ed. 1 Friday, January 19, 1973 - Page: 2 of 4 . Magnified. The Portal to Texas History (unt.edu) Interesting interview with Hayden Fry very early in his tenure. Hope we can find another coach who would take the time to do some research regarding the problems with the football program BEFORE taking the job.
  7. So, here's a quiz for all you. Whose job is it to teach/model stress management to kids, teens, and young adults? Do you think that, more and more, those people are teaching/modeling de-escalation to the aforementioned kids/teens/young adults? Or do they teach/model stress management by going out and buying guns?
  8. This being the day of remembrance coming out of WW 1, my family's participation in this "event" was my grandfather "Ira F. Lane" Corporal, Company H, 359th Infantry, the Texas/Oklahoma division "The Tough Ombres". He was inducted into service at Wolfe City. From "Wiki"........World War I The 359th Infantry Regiment was constituted for World War I at Camp Travis, Texas, on August 5, 1917, as a unit of the National Army. It was organized in September and assigned to the 180th Infantry Brigade, a unit of the 90th Division. After completing individual and collective training, the regiment served in France during the war, including duty in the Villers-en-Haye, Battle of Saint-Mihiel, duty in the Puvenelle Sector of Lorraine, and the Meuse–Argonne offensive. The regiment remained in Europe for post-war occupation duty following the Armistice of November 11, 1918 and was demobilized at Camp Bowie, Texas on June 24, 1919. When my grandfather was discharged (honorably) it was noted on his form "729 A.G.O" that he was "slightly wounded". My mother said that that "slight" wound was him being gassed. He never discussed his "war adventures" with his daughters. The ones who (as the Patton character said in the movie "Patton") "felt the sting of battle", rarely did. An excellent movie to watch today would be "The Best Years of Our Lives" It is being featured on TCM at 7PM tonight. Have a "reflective" day.
  9. For those of us wanting to watch it at home....who is carrying the game?
  10. Near as I can tell, by the last quarter of the game Saturday we had three completely healthy RB's to rely on. #6 Ragsdale #20 Q. Farrar #21 BK Jackson Still healing, or not worth risking re-injury....or worse #23 Isaiah Johnson. I watched the replay of his self-induced injury at the end of the UTSA game, and it looked like how I have rolled/turned an ankle many times through the years (so many times I have permanent swelling around that ankle). Now, was his just a "turned ankle" or a sprained ankle? Or was it broken? Anyone see him on the sideline of the FIU game on crutches/boot etc? #27 Attaway. Anyone see him on the sideline of the FIU game using crutches/boot etc? I keep seeing someone post that it's a break. If so, we'll see him next year. #40 Preston Landis. I observed Mr. Landis on the sideline in full gear but wearing something that looked like this on his right leg. Only his looked a bit heavier duty. Now, I wear one of these when I am going to walk and lot and climb stairs because I have a torn meniscus. Now. I don't remember seeing him being carried off the field the last time he got into a game, so I have to assume that this is a practice injury. Whatever it was didn't keep him from suiting up fully, but he didn't look "100%" to me. Hopefully he didn't get into the game Saturday because he fell into the "not worth risking further injury" catagory. Switching someone to RB If we switched anyone to RB it would be because we needed a "power" runner. We have plenty of speed available. So, the most obvious candidate to me would be Gumms.
  11. Yeah, I think Fine benefited from some YAK yardage there at the end of the famous "drive".
  12. When Hayden Fry left for Iowa, he recommended Brashier be given consideration as his replacement. The administration (who at this point hated Hayden Fry) responded that Brashier can "get in line and apply for the job like anyone else". He instead took the job of DB coach and eventually DC at Iowa. I think he had some level of success there. I remember thinking at the time "you guys have taken the term "petty bureaucracy" to a new low". Although I think they were probably very proud of their pettiness.
  13. I too was at that game. I remember we won the toss, and instead of "deferring", we took the ball. After we took it down and scored (no body was surprised) we THEN did an on-side kick and recovered it. We then took it down and scored again. It was then that I turned to the person next to me and said, "Holy Crap! Dodge just made a statement about his defense". And the statement was "we can't stop Navy, so we have to get as far ahead of them early in the game as we can". Trouble was, Navy eventually figured out how to stop us a couple of times, and that was the difference in the game.
  14. As I said in another thread, the most likely "up next" RB in the rotation would probably be Preston Landis (#40). He got a few carries earlier in the year (probably against TSU). He's a pretty hard nose slasher-type runner. In the spring his mother and father told me that he catches the ball very well. I don't know what has happened to BK Jackson.
  15. After our next-to-last TD, which put us up to 33-13, the camera (@8:57) focused on a small group of NT fans. I started laughing and said "try to contain your excitement guys".,......as they might say in that very irritating commercial.... "that's so you" North Texas.
  16. This is just heartbreaking. So, based on what I observed in two spring scrimmages. Next up should be Preston Landis (#40). I noticed him on the sideline during the broadcast, so he's on the traveling squad. The true freshman (#20) might get some time as well. But he mainly adds more pure speed than anything. They already have that with #39 and #41. Also, I noticed in the spring that they put in a couple of runs from scrimmage (Debo Sweeny style) for Gumms. So, don't be surprised.
  17. One season as the HC of New England, but he had a pretty long career as a DC in the NFL and Canadian football.
  18. Parker also went after Mitch Maher. I remember him saying something like "that guy was responsible for about 400+ yards (running and throwing) against us in our playoff game with Plano". I knew I had to have him on my team. I remember being shocked that any Plano QB would throw the ball that much. Plano QB's were always more bus drivers than traditional QB's. Which may be why they traditionally wore RB numbers.
  19. I looked it up. He (Waters) was (with 28 receptions) the leading receiver for the 1996 NT team. Before there was Joe Greene, Cedric Hardman, and Brian Waters, there was Abner Haynes. Abner was inducted into the KC Chiefs HOF in 1991. All of his awards and accomplishments. Career highlights and awards AFL champion (1962) AFL Comeback Player of the Year (1964) 3× First-team All-AFL (1960–1962) Second-team All-AFL (1964) 4× AFL All-Star (1960–1962, 1964) AFL All-Time Team AFL Rookie of the Year (1960) AFL MVP (1960) 3× AFL rushing touchdowns leader (1960–1962) AFL rushing yards leader (1960) 2× First-team All-MVC (1958, 1959) Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame Kansas City Chiefs No. 28 retired North Texas Mean Green No. 28 retired All-Pro and Pro-Bowl designations All-Pro - Wikipedia
  20. I believe that Gumms was signed as a TE coming out of HS. But I tend to agree with your assessment that he is more of a FB. Andy Blount was signed as a WR coming out of HS. I always regarded him more as a big WR than as a TE.
  21. Those two, plus Luis Silva and Kelvin Smith. Mitch Maher to Luis Silva was money in the bank.
  22. No, "brought in" is different than "going to".
  23. I'd rather not go to it. That's for sure.
  24. Rod Rust came in from Stanford. When he was fired, he took a pro coaching job. Same with Matt Simon.
  25. In theory, UTSA would have time for its long list of walking wounded to get healed and back on the field by the time the Championship game happens. We can't even beat their stand-ins. How disastrous would that game end up being?
