  1. Congratulations to both of these fine UNT athletes. But just as important......who recruited these guys?
  2. If you are going to compare C.C. to anyone, I would compare him to Hayden Fry. Only Colby could out bullshit him in a one-on-one bullshit contest.....and that is saying a lot. Talk about someone that the local media would regularly go to for a quote.......on just about any subject. When was the last time that we had a coach that was this passionate about his job? When was the last time that we had a coach that was this passionate about the school where he was coaching?
  3. Could there be any one more verbally opposite to SL anywhere in the coaching profession? His dad is very much like him. When his dad took over at WTAM, he took a tour of every community club in the Canyon/Amarillo area to deliver the message that "We want to be your team", and then he would pin a WTAM pin on the lapel of anyone who stopped to talk with him. C.Carthel knows TEXAS. He understands the importance of COMMUNITY, and between Colby and his dad, they probably know just about every coach and assistant coach in the state of Texas. FWIW, Jared Mosley's program at ACU went up against the Carthels several years and had some epic games. FWIW (2) whilst talking with some alums at the spring game, the name of Carthel came up. The mother of one of our starters heard the name and said "You leave him alone. My other son plays for him and he just loves the guy"
  4. Well, he did play linebacker in college (Angelo State).....all conference LB at that.
  5. On December 13, 2012, former UConn, East Carolina, and South Florida head coach Skip Holtz, son of legendary coach Lou Holtz,[73] accepted an offer to become the head coach for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.[74] Holtz's first season, the 2013 campaign, was a rebuilding year as the Bulldogs finished 4–8.[75] However, 2014 would see a big improvement. Holtz's Bulldogs went on to finish first in C-USA West at 9–5[76] with a 35–18 win over Illinois in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.[77] In 2015, the Bulldogs continued their success, finishing 9–4[78] and winning the New Orleans Bowl over Arkansas State, 47–28.[79] In 2016, Holtz's Bulldogs finished 9–5.[80] They won the C-USA West Division title and lost in the conference championship game against East Division champion Western Kentucky.[81] Tech then accomplished their third consecutive bowl victory by defeating Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl by kicking a late field goal to win 48–45.[82] In 2017 Louisiana Tech handily defeated SMU in the Frisco Bowl 51–10 in Frisco, Texas. Tech's fifth consecutive bowl win was in 2018 when the Bulldogs defeated Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl 31–14. In 2019, the Bulldogs finished 10–3 and continued the FBS's longest bowl winning streak at 6 with another victory over a P5 team in the Independence Bowl, defeating Miami, 14–0. It was the first G5 shutout of a P5 team ever in a bowl game and it was the first shutout in the Independence Bowl's 40+ year history. The Bulldogs went 5–5 in 2020, finishing with a 38–3 loss to Georgia Southern in the New Orleans Bowl. Holtz was fired after the 2021 season when the Bulldogs finished 3–9.[83] During SL's (age 44) tenure, he beat Holtz (age 58) only once. The total record is.... 2016 LT 45-NT 24 2017 NT 24 LT 23 2018 LT 29 NT 27 2019 LT 52 NT 17 2020 LT 42 NT 31 2021 LT 24 NT 17 Hmmm
  6. Well Holtz is 58 and Dykes is 52. I'm not sure how young you need the coach to be, but the TCU fans (including the students) seemed pretty excited about what Dykes was giving them.
  7. 4. UTSA is just more talented Translation, we're not only getting out played and outcoached, but it also starts sooner than that WE ARE GETTING OUT RECRUITED!
  8. Statistical good years. But bottom line-wise (which you should appreciate as a business owner) they were terrible years.
  9. Oh, my goodness! That is so perfect.
  10. Everyone loves to fantasize about big strapping QB's who can fling a football through a brick wall. The QB's that always get my attention are the ones like Harris. He's 6' X 205, which by today's standards is pretty average. But what really counts is that he has "it". The only way you will ever be able to count him out of a game is by knocking him out of the game......and I mean hard! The closest we've ever come to having that kind if "it" in a QB was (IMHO) Scott Hall.
  11. Pardon my faultering memory. I thought that Jerry Moore (like Hayden Fry and Darrel Royal etc.) was both AD and HC. That was a trend during those times.
  12. BINGO! A major decision maker at NT athletics got hired away. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time something like that happened was when Jerry Moore got hired away from us by Texas Tech back at the end of the 1980 season.
  13. Mosley has always been my first choice as AD here. When he was hired as assistant AD, I couldn't believe our luck.
  14. Completely different time, but Odus Mitchell was the HC of Marshall HS when he was hired to coach the post WW II re-established NT football program.
  15. So if we win the next two games, the response should be "thanks for finally doing what you should have been doing in season three" . Now, good luck to you.
  16. I doubt that SL will ever be a head coach at a school/program that is higher ranked/regarded than NT. If that was going to happen, it would have happened already.
  17. I see a lot of evaluation skills mentioned in his current resume, but I don't see any mention of the "difference making" players that he recruited and subsequently developed.
  18. The link shows stats as of the beginning of the 2022 season. KD is listed as the leader in tackles for the 2019, 2020 & 2021 seasons. I guess that since his career is not over, he is not listed in with the career leaders. I don't go to this site. I generally look up stats for previous years. For that I use an older media guide. I don't know where the stat site would be for the "weekly stats updates".
  19. Until they adopted the Eagle as their mascot (1922) they alternated calling themselves the Denton Normals, or the Denton Teachers. They had been using Green and white since about 1907. One student remembered that "Someone suggested Mother Nature would be kind to those using her colors".
  20. This is the promo that I got from the Ticket office. Thank You Season Ticket Holders! Bill, We appreciate all of your support during the 2022 Football Season and look forward to seeing you on Saturday as we take on Rice and celebrate Senior Day. Mean Green Ticket Office So, instead of trying to give away two or three tickets to the game (like I usually do), I would get to try and find a way to give away two more tickets.
  21. That's exactly the same vow I made a few years ago after going to my final game @ the Alamo Dump...err. Dome.
  22. Well, our recent bowls games (all of them in the SL era) have all been a complete disaster. But I don't think that's what you had in mind...............😎
  23. And, am I the only one who has noticed that he has done this in his first year of coaching @ TCU? And(2) when Dykes was hired, was there a stampede of talent going out the door because the beloved Gary Patterson was no longer their coach? SO, it just goes to show that it doesn't take a competent coach 7+ years to have success at his new coaching job. And there are lots of other likable/lovable coaches out there.
