Hayden Fry would totally approve. Way to go guys!!

Totally agree. I've always favored the "make it simple/uncluttered and bold" designs. Kind of like this one.......

UNT Athletics Strategic Plan Update- 2023

Me too. And while we are looking to push our brand and raise our profile. How about getting the ST to just basically acknowledge our existence. We have "O" sports coverage from them. -
UNT Athletics Strategic Plan Update- 2023
SilverEagle replied to DentonLurker's topic in Mean Green Football
It's all laid out there in the book "The Story of North Texas".....in all of it's political ugliness. When we became a university back in 1961, we had to change our name to reflect our new status. To do that we had to file a bill with the legislature stating the name that we wanted. The North Texas Administration wanted The University of North Texas. The house had no problem with it, but the senate, and all it's UT a-hole graduates, wanted nothing to do with it. They threatened to filibuster the bill if it proceeded as written. The bill's sponsor had to work out a compromise because a name change had to happen. The compromise name was NTSU. After that we took a run at it two more times before succeeding in 1988. In each of those two times we got thwarted again by UT graduates. The bill to change our name to UNT was finally signed by Bill Clements........an SMU grad. Now, ain't that ironic. -
thank you, thank you, thank you. Jace Ruder For whatever my opinion is worth, let me just say that, (as of yesterday's scrimmage) Jace Ruder is probably the best QB throwing the ball and he is also the best QB running the ball......when he chooses to do so. But the thing is that he just doesn't choose to do so that often. But when he does it's very impressive. I was bringing up that very subject to Hunter Green last week, when Ruder took a snap, and because of a sudden pass rush and no time to set up and throw, took off running. Before either of us could utter a word, Ruder had zipped between two DL's, and was about 25 yards down the field before the ref's blew the whistle to end the play. Based on what I've seen last year and this spring. Jace Ruder is the most talented QB on the team. And that was the case last year...even more so than Austin Aune .....although many on this board think that that's a pretty low bar. He not only has the strongest arm, but his release/motion is both quick and effortless. I've already covered his running ability. So, what the hell happened last year that got him sitting on the bench? Did he lose confidence in himself? Was he arrogant and uncoachable? I just know that raw ability was not the issue.

#33 on your program, Ray Renfro. 7.5 yards per carry.

Great RB's I've witnessed @ NT. Bobby Smith....very Cobbs-like in his style Bernard Jackson.....very versatile....reminded me of Preston Pearson and/or Jeff Wilson in his style. Great vision. Malcom Jones- very undersized (about 5'6" X 165) but very quick and deceptively strong....much like our current Q-Farrar. Monty Moon- very quick and hard nosed. I can't remember him ever losing yardage on a run. Darin Collins.... the best FB when we were running the wishbone. Very quick off the line and very strong runner. Eric Pegram-fast slasher-type runner. You always thought he was going to the house when he got past the line of scrimmage, but I think he always got caught from behind. Hut Alread- great football name. Very quick and strong runner. JaQuay Wilburn- see Hut Alread above. Patrick Cobbs....very quick and strong with great vision. Jamario Thomas....deceptively fast and strong....and great vision. Rarely took a direct hit. A great threat to take it to the house on every run. Honorable mentions.. Willie Cherry (#33 on your program , leading rusher in 1965-66). The ex-marine that was one of the toughest players I've ever seen. Probably no more than 5'8" X 165-70 lbs, but to borrow an old Darrell Royal line "he was a rolling ball of butcher knives". Carlen Charleston (#42 on your program, leading rusher and all-purpose yardage leader in 1981 ) at 5'5" X 155lbs, he was probably the quickest runner I ever saw at NT. And for his size, one of the strongest. He ran the ball from scrimmage, caught passes, & returned kick-offs and punts. He had to wear the "off-the-shelf" jerseys that were made for much bigger players, so parts of his name on the back of his jersey hung off both sides of his shoulder pads. And part of his number was tucked down into his pants.

Breaking: Angelo State OT Jake Long Commits to North Texas
SilverEagle replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
" First Daizion Carroll and now Jake Long. Looks like we're going for an all-Midway O-Line. My daughter-in-law went to HS @Midway. It's not in the WACO ISD btw. The towns of Hewitt and Woodway send their kids there. "Midway" is that areas version of Plano. Kind of like Boswell, which was always called "Saginaw-Boswell" in DCTF. Well, Boswell was not built in the city limits of Saginaw. It was built (in 1961) on unincorporated land between Saginaw and Lake Country. All the kids from Saginaw, Blue Mound, and Lake Country went to school there. It made for an interesting group of cars showing up for the morning drop-off and afternoon pickup at Boswell. -
Similarities between Morris and McCarney
SilverEagle replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
Morris is high volume and high energy. His style gets people moving and motivated. McCarney was old- school loud and grouchy.- 15 replies

Instead of the "traditional" movie served up by ABC during Easter, my wife and I tried something with a lighter tone. This may become our yearly Easter tradition.

UNT 2023 1ST scrimmage observations (4/8/23)
SilverEagle replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Hunter Green and I sat and watched the scrimmage. We both thought Ruder was the best of the group. Everyone is anxious about Rogers. He's pretty good, but not as good as Ruder and not significantly better than Earl or Head. Quite frankly I don't even know what Gunnels is doing out there. He may have been outstanding early in his career, but he certainly isn't now. They should give the young man from Flower Mound more reps (the one who wears #98) and see what he can do. In some warm up drills he looked decent. Right now, Ruder is the guy. The transfer from TT (#$19) looked really good. He's a genuine deep threat, and he looks like another go-to guy on deep balls like Shorter. Who wasn't out there today BTW. The offense looks very much like last years. The defense doesn't. The defense was way ahead of the offense. And they were relentless in chasing some of the QB's on most passing downs. It's only the first scrimmage but the DB play is MUCH BETTER this year.- 42 replies

My interest is in my university having a celebratory event (in this case NIT Champs-New Coached Named) with local news cameras running, and there is MINIMAL brand waving and/or displaying on what the NT officials were wearing. WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING? Addendum; Stand-up, don't think that I don't know why you really want me to buy BB season tickets and sit in section 121. You would be hoping that I would get so obnoxious that I would provoke yet another NT coach.
-
WHAT? I'm talking about his ALL WHITE outfit with the smallest embroidery I've ever seen. You have to squint to be able to read "mean green". He's getting well paid to clearly show who he is representing.....and it looks like he's representing just about anyone but North Texas. I just watched a few minutes of Coach Hodge speaking to the group and my two biggest takeaways were, 1. Were it not for the battle flag pin on his left lapel, (like Coach M,) you wouldn't have a clue as to what school had just hired him. Not one item of clothing was green. 2. Coach Hodge had to encourage/coax the fans/alumni there to stand up and applaud the NIT champions who were there in the room. MY GOD! That was embarrassing.
-
This says it all. Coach M. celebrating a big win....but who the hell does he coach for? Look very close and you will see. Coach M. at the Texas Tech welcoming event. Coach Hodge at intro event. Look what he is wearing....not what he is holding up. Were it not for the NT flag pin on his lapel.......... This is pure NT.

You can't? Hasn't that always been the NT way? Ding, ding, ding. This part of your post/rant is the most relevant regarding our program. Remember when people used to lament/speculate that there needs to be much more consistent attendance at both Football Games and Basketball games? If only we could get around to hiring the right coach who had teams that consistently won, then our student/alumni/Denton area residents would show up and we'd have consistent sell-outs at Apogee and the Super Pit. Our media presence would go through the roof, and NT would finally be the dominating program that it always had potential to be. Welp, GM just proved that theory wrong. We could have doubled his salary and he still would have moved on. He played for a B-12 school and got his masters from TT. He remembers the support that those teams got! Did you see the brief coverage on one of the local stations last night about his being greeted by the TT faithful? He had a red jacket on (I've never seen him wear much green while coaching here) and the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face. They had a REAL EVENT (complete with cheerleaders) going on for the official announcement and he was loving it! Coaches and players all like the financial perks of their efforts. But they LOVE the ADULATION.....especally LOUD ADULATION. Hmmm, I have been a very loyal fan of North Texas for almost 50 years. I don't think that I have ever used the word adulation to describe the interactions between the NT crowd and their sports teams. One of the worst hires in NT history, Bob Tyler, did get one thing absolutely right. He was being interviewed after the OK St. game and at the end of the interview he mused "what the hell is wrong with these people?"

...who I would speculate, put their money somewhere else at the University until Jared Mosley came along and sold them on the athletic program's future. Here is the summary of his accomplishments at ACU. https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=523d9b73527489e2JmltdHM9MTY4MDMwNzIwMCZpZ3VpZD0wYTNkN2QzMi0wZmI3LTYyMDItMGVmNy02Y2QwMGVjMjYzNWEmaW5zaWQ9NTAwNg&ptn=3&hsh=3&fclid=0a3d7d32-0fb7-6202-0ef7-6cd00ec2635a&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9hY3VzcG9ydHMuY29tL25ld3MvMjAxNC84LzIyL0dFTl8wODIyMTQ1MTQ4LmFzcHg&ntb=1 -
I'll tell you what's amazing....
SilverEagle replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Now, if someone in the athletic department, or Development, can find someone to get that culture to spread to the student body, alumni, and the Denton community, we can be well on our way to being the University sports program that we should have been LONG AGO!- 2 replies

Jared Mosley is a good example. I have always been impressed with him, and this part of his bio explains why...... Mosley came to North Texas from the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, where he held the title of Chief Executive Officer and President from 2014-16. Prior to that appointment, Mosley served as Director of Athletics for 10 years at Abilene Christian University from 2004-14, where he increased the athletics fundraising more than 650 percent up to more than $1.7 million in his final year. Mosley oversaw more than $30 million in facilities construction and renovations while leading the Wildcats through the first year of their Division I transition. He also secured the lead gift for an on-campus football stadium. Considering the size of the school and it's location, that was very impressive. -
Congratulations to our new HC, Ross Hodge!

Next man up, or the next man on his way up (via grit and hard work). The next man up knows what he is getting himself into, and the next man on his way up finds the challenges at North Texas very manageable compared to where he was before. -
?? In the years 68, 69 & 70 we did not play Wyoming. The only three schools that we played in those years whose name starts with a "W" is Weber St., West Texas State, and Wichita state. We played Wichita St. all three of those years but, only once at home, in 1969. It was probably well attended because it was a homecoming game. In the 60's all of the homecoming games were either against Cincinnati or Wichita St. Wichita St. and Wyoming have similar school colors. Wyoming's is brown and gold, and Wichita St's is black and gold. I'm sure someone will correct me on this, but I don't think we have ever played Wyoming in Football.
-
LOL!! PLUS, I hope that none of the Wyoming fans contact him for directions to Denton.

We all know that Stone Earl is a dual threat. Going by what I saw last spring, I would rate Jace Ruder as the fastest of the group from that moment in time.
