  1. OMG! What a great idea! Can you imagine at the end of Mason Fine's (and his very able WR assistants) "drive" against UTSA? My God! The NT fans would have crashed the web-site. It would have been the single largest donation event in North Texas football history!
  2. Well, Historically I can......and I have. As I have pointed out an infinite number of times in the past. FUND RAISING was not part of the North Texas culture until the early 70's. The Mean Green Club (now called the North Texas Scholarship fund) was started by Hayden Fry when he arrived in 1973. The North Texas endowment fund did not get established until 1974. 84 years after the school was founded.
  3. When it was apparent that RV would not continue as AD, I favored Mosley to be his replacement. I was disappointed when Baker was hired (I had never heard of him), but I couldn't believe that shortly afterward Mosley was hired as Assistant AD. I took the opportunity at two different kickoff events to tell Mosley that he was my first choice back when Baker was first hired. I also couldn't believe that the North Texas administration actually made two competent hires in short order. Our administration has come a long way from the days of hiring the Bob Tylers and Craig Helwig's of the world.
  4. 😉 I was just trying to figure out how he was a four-year letter winner. In the 60's you couldn't play varsity sports until you were a soph.
  5. Ok, which years did he play?
  6. Just wondering. Was this a posted position that she came after and competed for against other qualified candidates. Or was she recruited to apply for the job?
  7. East Carolina has to be one of the worst "directional" names. There is no state called "East Carolina".... only North or South Carolina. So, the name should be either NE Carolina or SE Carolina. Talk about directionally/territorially challenged. And then there is the overly vague collection of "directional" names. Starting with... Northwestern.........Northwest of where? Our name at least gives you a state to work with. Southern Cal.....that's a lot of territory to go hunting for their campus. Southern Miss......see above. South Florida.....see above. Southern Methodist,,,If you assume that the name is referring to the deep south, then that covers an area starting in Maryland and ending in Texas. They might as well have called it "Find-us-if-you-can- somewhere-in-the-southern-states-University."
  8. My wife (a TWU grad) always chuckles when our old "Normal" name comes up. "Since when?" she always says.
  9. Don't forget "West Texas State Normal, and Sul Ross State Normal" . I'm very aware of this phenomenon (growth of public institutions of higher learning) because one of my history classes was "The Cultural History of the United States.....post Civil War". And it covered this issue. In the late 19th century and early 20th century there was an explosion of Colleges, mainly in the rural areas, to provide formal training for teachers that would be staffing public schools in the rural areas. The other thing going on during that time in USA history was an increase in crime and alcoholism. Social thinkers/policy influencers of the time hit on a common trait of criminals......a lack of formal education. Most criminals were very lacking in formal education, and the social thinkers/influencers of the time noticed that the most moral, productive citizens had a higher lever of formal education. SO, they had an "Ah HA" moment and pushed for more Colleges to be built. Ideally colleges that were more affordable. Because "the educated man/woman was a more moral man/woman". Then the Leopold and Loeb case happened....Leopold and Loeb - Wikipedia. And the social thinkers/influencers of that time were crestfallen. Back to the original subject. The samples that I provided were from just one year. We had adopted the Eagle as our mascot in 1922 and we were still being referred to as "The Denton Teachers".
  10. From the Star-Telegram, 10-20-1928 Lubbock Paper coverage of the NT/A$M game of 1928 So, even after we adopted the "Eagle" as our mascot, we were frequently referred to as the "Denton Teachers".
  11. If the "Denton Area Teachers Credit Union" turns out to be the new stadium sponsor, it will fit in pretty well with our history. Before the Eagle was voted (by the student body) to be our official mascot back in the 1920's, our athletic teams were usually referred to as "The Denton Teachers".
  12. Yeah, I remember RV's first attempt to get the student body to vote for a fee.....it was a resounding failure. THEN RV was advised to stay the hell out of it, and the (then) president of the student body (Flyer) and his very able volunteers put together a very competent campaign that the students voted for. And to this day, he (like Sydney Sue Graham who gave us the very unique nickname "Mean Green") gets no credit for his efforts. So every time I read someone saying "thank you RV" I say "screw that!...Thank you Flyer".
  13. First cartoon Scrappy from the 50's-60's ORIGINAL From the Corkey Nelson era......ORIGINAL And not original but one of the few times that we used clip art and pretty much got it right. From 1942 Also from the WW-2 era.. I too like the "Worm" best, but the Scrappy from the 50-60's comes in a pretty close second. Addendum: I would like to get this on a t-shirt for my granddaughter.
  14. What happened to the QB from Byron Nelson HS?
  15. In one word.....timeliness.
  16. You know. It's threads like this that should make it obvious how useless DCTF is to most college fans in Texas.
  17. The next thing I would like to see developed is one of these that runs off a battery pack like your power tools. You could then use it anywhere.
  18. Could he offer both a UNT light and a "son of worm" light with North Texas on either side or below the logo?
  19. Do you still have that green emergency light that you bought from me?
  20. Available to TCU fans on Etsy,,,,,,,, TCU Horned Frogs Team Pride Light-texas Christian University - Etsy TCU Horned Frogs Light up LED Sign - Etsy
  21. Duly noted and same here. I just got carried away. Too many non-famous people who are UNT alums have had great ideas and worked hard for the University and die without any sort of recognition. I watch the Channel 8 news every day, and when they do the weather, they almost always show the indoor facility next to "The Stadium". And there it is in large letters MEAN GREEN. I often wonder if Sidney Graham will ever get proper credit for giving us our unique moniker. Odus Mitchell deserves to have the field named after him. He goes from being HC @ Marshal HS in the summer of 46 to the NT head coaching job by the beginning of the fall season. And between 46 and 52 he took NT to two bowls and won four conference championships and tied another. AND then presided over the first integration of a D-1 school in Texas. There has to be some sort of "12 Mighty Orphans-like" story in there somewhere.
  22. ...as if that was such a tough call.
  23. Save yourself a lot of money and go to ALDI and get their version of Corona.....
  24. I used to have a supervisor who taught middle school English in her first career. When anyone in our unit would discuss a plan of action on any case we were working, she would always remind us "There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip" I always think of that every time someone announces that a HS Junior has made a commitment to UNT.
  25. If there were any fairness/justice left in the world. A group of rich UNT alumni would pool their resources and fund this..... Sidney Sue Graham Field @ Haynes-Greene Stadium.
