Wanna see the NT vs. UH game but can't make it to Houston?
RushnStudies replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
Actually, there is (or probably will be on game day) a link on Coogfans where you can get the game on the internet for free through justin.tv. Several of us watch the games that way. -
Buncha wiseguys.

My family of 4, plus 5 guests from Conroe.

Yay, finally. We thought it was supposed to be open in time for family weekend.

SMU disliked UH looooong before the 95-21 game. That game just made it worse. Do a little homework, maybe ask one or two of the older guys at Coogfans. Better yet, find an SMU alum who's around 50 or so and ask. And you're not sure why SMU fans supposedly say Houston fans are a bunch of punks? After making at least two posts on this forum (and Zeus knows where else on the internet) about dumping beer and red paint on UNT fans and bragging about how rough and skeery it is for other schools to play at the Rob? The fungus thread.... it spreads like kudzu....

Tailgating can pretty much happen anywhere. The parking lot right around the stadium has sections that are pre-assigned to groups like the H Association (lettermen's group) and season ticketholders. People tailgate in their parking spaces, in the medians around the parking spaces, in the grassy areas bordering the parking lots, all over the place. Plenty of the visiting team's fans strike up tents and canopies and are welcome to do so. The area around campus is going to be well patrolled by security and law enforcement on game day. Be smart, but don't be paranoid about becoming the 5th (or is it the 57th? the number seems to keep changing) robbery victim in broad daylight this week. My entire time at UH, when the neighborhood around the campus was worse in several ways, I never once got mugged or otherwise accosted.

You keep bringing up the UNT greeks. At least you did before, so presumably you're referring to them again. Are you referring to the one instance of hubbub that the advisory boards were informed of last season, or is there something else you're hinting at? I'm curious, because my husband and I are both on greek advisory boards here, and we haven't heard anything negative about the greeks tailgating since the beginning of the 2011 season.

Oh my goodness, he really does look like Rick from Pawn Stars... -
You guys think utsa is legit....
RushnStudies replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah... Not thrilled with that. But whatever. -
I'll still be on the road from Denton until late Friday night, so unless there are pep rallies on Saturday, I won't be going to any. But I'm glad they're going. I had hoped the Spirit of Houston would come up last fall.
-
Making the road trip to Houston? Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere... I didn't see it.

Haw! Just the garage? I'm still not convinced UH will get a W out of this one, the way the season's gone so far. No way would I bet on this game if I were in Vegas. I'm just gonna go to the game and have a good time.

I *was* a student at UH. My username is what it is because (a) it's what I majored in at UH and (b )it's a play on words with a football term. I wear my college ring that I earned before I graduated from UH every day when I'm attending graduate school at UNT. I am proud to be affiliated with both schools. I don't call one "Cougar High" and the other "NTSU." You're right about Cougar fans talking a lot of smack. I've done it, largely in defense to UT, A&M, and SMU fans who looked down on me once they learned where I was going to school. But don't talk to these folks about how much deeper Houston's school spirit runs. The current spirited culture at UH is as strong as it is now because it went through a lot of apathetic, don't-care days. I know, because I was there. If you're currently a freshman there, I've been a Coog longer than you've been alive. I admire your spirit and am glad there are fired-up students like you attending my undergrad alma mater. But it chaps my hide when people like you denigrate other schools in the name of "talking smack." It makes you sound like a snob. I wish you luck in your school career and your possible football career.

YOU said to be respectful. I was suggesting that you follow your own advice. "We?" Can you not read my signature?

Remember when you said "Be respectful, cheer loud for your team and we will all have a jolly good time." ?? You be respectful here, and I'm sure you'll get respect back.

The Rob is the stadium where the game will be played. You may be thinking of the Third Ward. -
Random Idea in regards to changing the culture...
RushnStudies replied to UNTstormchaser's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm the kind of person who roots for my schools whether they win or lose, so I'm not the person you need to market to. To market to the masses, it will take winning, and winning consistently. Things tend to fall into place when you win consistently. However, I love the live mascot idea. I think it's really cool when a school has a live mascot. My junior year of high school, we went to FCA Day at Rice; Grant Teaff spoke to us kids pre-game, and then we stayed for the game. Everyone talked about the real bear cub Baylor brought. I think Rice may have had a real owl, too. My first year of undergrad was the last year Houston had a live cougar, and people were in awe when she held court at the games. Sorry, didn't mean to digress... I love Scrappy; he does a great job and my kids have had many fun photo ops with him. But a live eagle would be a really cool thing to have. -
Awesome! "Mi mi mi mi mi..."

We will be there, four strong, and bringing five guests with us. There's always a good time at the Rob. -
I'm glad to hear that! His point of reference was that he didn't have to push through crowds on his way to the bar, so...

Will be going to this and bringing the husband and kids, all of us wearing green. Just renewed our men's season BB tix, too. We really enjoy going to the games.
