I think it's cool to have the Tuesday night game because we'll be the only live college football game on widespread television at the time. ESPN builds it up as a "featured" game, and it gets UNT more tv time, and that's always exciting to see. What I don't like about it is that my entire family can't go, as we could for a Saturday game. I have class from 6-9 on Tuesday (and it is definitely NOT a class I can miss) and my kiddos have to be in bed early because they wake up the following morning at 6am to begin their schooldays. They will, however, be watching on television until they have to hit the hay. I am hopeful that a good chunk of students will be in attendance. It seems like every time there's a late-night pep rally or movie showing on campus, even people who wouldn't normally go to those things (especially students who live in or near dorms and don't have cars) turn out and there's a good crowd.

I predict that I will be unable to attend the game because my family will be at my son's football game. I'd love to go see the Coogs, and Ford is kind of a neat place to see a game, but I'd rather see my son and his team play. I'm nervous about this game, because although UH has done better in the last two weeks, I just don't know which team they'll bring on the road. Aaaaand that will probably be the only response you'll get in this thread that you find "acceptable," King.

Nice win by Tulane.

That sounds scary just reading it. I hope they figure out what's going on and I'm glad to hear you're ok. -
Actually... that might have been crummy 1-ply cardboard paper derivative at the Rob, I admit... I saw a few falls and drops too, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Did Scrappy and Shasta not have a meeting of the mascots? If they did, I missed it.

Just a few thoughts I have... 1. I was disappointed with the tailgating atmosphere as well. It was absolutely electric in September. This was a lot less populated than I thought it'd be, although we still had fun. Houston unfortunately has a lot of bandwagon fans, and when the only win you have is against Rice, people aren't inspired to come out and attend the game, much less tailgate. 2. I was also surprised to see the game wasn't sold out, as I had been told it was. See the final sentence of comment #1. 3. UH folks are well aware that not every sporting goods store in the city of 2 million carries UH gear. It's frustrating to go to some Academy locations and see UT and A&M and even Tech aisles, but no or minimal UH aisles. All I can say, I suppose, is... supply, demand, etc. etc. and so forth and so on. You could also refer back to, again, the final sentence of comment #1. 4. I really liked the crowd that did show up, both the ones in red and the ones in green. It was great to hear both bands too. It all adds to game day atmosphere and fun. 5. I was in red and green. UH Alumni t-shirt and blinged-out UNT flip-flops. Darn me for leaving my UNT visor at home in Denton. A few people jokingly asked if I couldn't make up my mind, and I told them that I had graduated from one school and currently attend the other, so I would wear colors for both. I did the same thing at the game at Apogee last year, although the attitude from the fans from both sides who approached me at that game was different. 6. I understand the concept of "smack." I talk it myself quite a bit. I haven't done so that much these last 10 days or so because my schools were meeting on the football field. I am proud to have attended both schools and should be an alumna of both the University of Houston and the University of North Texas in May of 2013. You want to call me a Pollyanna or anything else, go right ahead, but I find the "Cougar High" and "North Texas State/Normal/Etc." comments tiresome and silly. I worked my tail off for one degree and am working my tail off for the other and will be proud to have both. Am I glad the Cougars won? Yes. Would I have been glad to see the Mean Green win? Yes. Just can't have it both ways in college football.

I disagree. North Texas brought a *great* group of fans. Loud, proud, and lots of green. It was really exciting to see that. I love to go to games when the visitors draw a nice crowd. The one drawback was the UNT tailgate being further away than I thought it'd be. I really thought it'd be right outside the Rob like the Texas Staters were.

And now for some good news...Lance Dunbar

Awesome!! -
Hell of a run. He kept getting caught in traffic, only to break out and keep going. Play of the game, right there.

There should be a lot going on on-campus for game day. The kids always love the parade and the multitude of bounce houses and tailgates.

Best Cajun food in Houston is down on Clear Lake City Blvd. at Abe's.
-
Did you ever find it? We wandered around a while and didn't see it either.
-
Yup, that's it. I don't dislike Buc-ee's but I'm not in love with it either. It's absolutely packed unless you stop late at night, and even then, it's still busy. Their jerky isn't bad but it tastes like it's spent time in the freezer. The jerky at Woody's just tastes like good jerky. For those who are so inclined, Woody's even sells head cheese. I won't touch it, but my son tried some once and thought it was interesting.

The Mean Green section was really loud, too. It sounded great. We were in the south end zone, but friends sitting diagonally across the field from y'all said they heard y'all loud and clear.

Nope, your driving suggestions are good. Stay away from Scott St. near the stadium because it backs up really badly due to the construction. The garage was $20 last month and it's nice to park right there next to the game. As far as I know, you can bring a chairback, and I believe one of the kiosks even sells Cougar ones at the game anyway, so it'd be silly to disallow others. But you cannot bring outside food or drinks into the Rob, including beer. Chug up before you go in. And I haven't checked the weather, but no umbrellas either, only ponchos. And if you're bringing in a backpack or diaper bag, be ready for it to be searched. We'll be heading down in a few hours after my kiddos get out of school. Everybody have a safe trip down... and the jerky and fudge is better at Woody's than at Buc-ee's, in my opinion.

Kinda curious as to why they're hosting the first event at the Marriott when there are nicer places closer to campus. Maybe that's the team hotel. Tailgating "at Robertson Stadium" leaves a lot of room for leeway since there are several intersections in the area. My *guess* is that you'll need to look for green canopies in a spot that's off Holman and Cullen, just across Cullen from the Science & Research buildings on campus, and across Holman from Hofheinz Pavilion. That's just a guess, like I said, but it's based off my memory of where the Texas State and other visitors' tailgates have occurred in the past.

Excited To Have Season BB Tickets for the First Time
RushnStudies replied to Green59's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We got season tickets the second year we were here, for the fall 2009 season, and have renewed each year. It's a lot of fun to go to the games, especially because we are acquainted with a couple of the team members. I'm having a brain fart on the section number we sit in... I wanna say it's 121. -
I was wondering how #105 Houston beat #108 Rice and then the two of them moved up to #82 and #86 respectively.
-
It is not separate, actually. Many of the hotel and restaurant employees are HRM students. It's a fully functioning hotel with conference areas and classrooms. We would have booked our room there this weekend, but we got a pretty great rate at the Hilton Americas in downtown instead. See, I mentioned going to Houston this weekend... because we're going to the football game... which means I posted about football and stayed on topi-- Aw, hell, I tried, anyway.
-
Poor Tulane. They're always on there, it seems. And Georgia Tech... Holy mackerel.

Are you absolutely sure you didn't request to pick them up at Will Call? I know when I buy tickets through UH, the default delivery method is Will Call; you have to click a drop-down box to request mail delivery.
