That new logo screams "1970's" to me. I can't decide if I think it's retro or outdated. It looks like something you'd see on a commercial break from Paul Boesch's Houston Wrestling. Saturday nights, 10:30 pm, on KHTV Channel 39.

Where do you live/family: Denton; married for 18 years, 2 sons. That's them with Coach Mac in my new profile pic. Degree/Year attended/graduated UNT: Hope to finish my master's in criminal justice in December of this year. We'll see how quickly I can finish this thesis. Favorite NT Memory: Tailgating. We open up the tailgate in the morning and shut it down after the game's over, win or lose. The boys love it too- tossing around the football with pals, eating barbecue, cleaning up on free t-shirts and backsacks and cups and all the other free stuff UNT groups give out at tailgates, standing 6 feet from Coach Mac and the team when they march into the stadium- what kid wouldn't love the atmosphere? Favorite NT Sports Memory: Hmmm. I don't have as many to draw from as some of you folks. I had a great time at the ULL victory last season. The inaugural tailgate and game at Apogee ranks up there, of course. Just about every basketball game at the Super Pit. (O-du-fa-WHO? O-du-fa-WAAAA!)

Oh, it's not just possible- it's a fact. If what quite a few UT alumni have told me is correct, (1) more UT alumni live in the greater Houston area than in any other place in the state, and (2) UT draws tons of t-shirt fans that UH just doesn't. I don't usually engage in the "where are we going" conference speculation, because frankly, it just makes my head hurt. I'm more of the "you guys figure it out, tell me what conference we're in when it's done, and I'll see y'all at the game" alum. While I agree that thinking big and thinking of the school's future is important, I think it was absolutely ridiculous to drop C-USA for the Big East, because look at the holy mess we're in now. Ugh. As I said... tell me what conference we end up in, and I'll see y'all at the game. UH has wanted to get into the Big 12 for a very long time- this is not news- and UT has actively worked to prevent that from happening- this is also not news. I don't believe UT will ever see adding UH to the Big 12 as an advantage, and for that reason, unless some contingent of schools decides to stick it to UT and lobby on our behalf (which is very, veeery unlikely), UT will continue to hide the keys to the conference from UH. I would like to see UH in a "premier" conference as much as any alum would, but this move to the almost-BE was too risky. It was not the right move at all. I was actually pretty happy in C-USA, and I like UNT's move to the conference. I think there are potentials for some good sports match-ups there. And we'll finally be rid of those Sun Belt basketball refs as well!

We liked the burgers at Love Shack, and the 2nd day they were open, we got to meet Tim Love. My older son talked to him at length, and he was pretty cool to the kid. But I have heard that Love does make the snarky comments and is more concerned about using his name to open a business than about actually keeping the place going.

Welp, I'm all caught up now, too, so bravo, Sir Tasty, for the fabulous update. -
Taking a Vacation!
RushnStudies replied to kalebschumann's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I've been all over North America but only to London and the surrounding area overseas. I love London. Yeah, it's an expensive city, but with some planning and knowledge, you can do London on a budget. Remember that most of the museums there are free and they have fantastic collections. There. Is so much to see in that city. It's easy to get around on the tube (we call that a subway) and the bus, and there's so much to see, particularly if you're a history buff. There are several walking tour companies- you pay a few pounds and get some really informative and fun sightseeing done. Our favorite company is London Walks, which is at www.walks.com. They do tons of tours all over the city including a Jack the Ripper tour, which is very cool. With a bit of preparation you can eat and sleep well for a reasonable price. And if you venture outside the city, the English countryside is every bit as picturesque as it looks in the movies. We took a day trip to Cambridge and toured a few of the colleges at the university (for free or for a modest £2) and had a skiff (flat boat) tour on the River Cam with a company run by a bunch of the students. We're actually going back to London over the school break and, while it will be bitterly cold, we're very excited. My husband's hoping to book us (the kids as well) on a trip to Paris next summer. That'll be interesting for me, as my French is extremely rusty, but my husband and older son have been taking it and are becoming fairly conversant in it. My own goals for international travel someday are Spain, Ireland, and Russia, perhaps St. Petersburg. *And I will add... A friend has been to Prague and loved the city. Cheap to travel in and full of old beauty and friendly people, according to her. -
RIP Dave Brubeck

Saw that on the news this morning. Heck of a talent. -
Mercer used to do radio for the basketball games? I didn't know that. Growing up outside Houston, my only exposure to him was his announcing for World Class Championship Wrestling. Or "rasslingg-uh" as he used to pronounce it. Back to basketball... I'm sorry to see another loss, but it sounds like there were more bright spots performance-wise. My husband asked one of the players (who's in his class) right after the UTA loss what's going on. According to the player, most of the team isn't fully getting what Benford is trying to do and during games, they're reverting to their thinking from the Jones days. I don't know what I think about that answer, but that's at least one player's opinion.

I don't know about that. For example, Houston has traditionally had problems with defense, and look at the difference between the Houston of 2010 when Keenum was hurt compared to the Houston of 2011 with a healthy Keenum. Maybe defense wins championships, but a QB who can lead his team to outscore the opposing team (due to his own team's hole-y defense) wins games. An improvement at QB accuracy or ability this year would have won another game or two for the MG.

What is your favorite Apogee Concession?
RushnStudies replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The kettle corn is really good stuff. We just haven't bought any in a while because it argues with the kids' braces. I think it's great that we've got local businesses doing concessions in there instead of the same standard stuff at every stop. Beth Marie's, Kolache Haven, even Rudy's and Sonic. (It was kinda nice to drink a diet cherry limeade at the Troy game.) I hope when Houston gets the new stadium off the ground, they do something similar. -
Do You See What Happens Cougar King? Do you see?
RushnStudies replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
We missed most of the first quarter due to my son's football game, but when we did get home to watch, I felt like the camera operators were mostly going out of their way to not show shots of the stands. SMOO fans who didn't go should be kicking themselves today. Not only were we bad and they were better, but we made them look great. I hope I never hear "Peruna" that many times again for the rest of my lifespan. -
Do You See What Happens Cougar King? Do you see?
RushnStudies replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Because attempting to beat up on the Miners with the bipolar team we've had this season will make us feel soooo much better for that butt-whipping we just took from the Ponies on the purty colorful television box thingy. Should we beat them? Yep. But we should've beaten SMOO too. This season's Cardiac Coogs are like a box of chocolates... we never know what we're gonna get. Last night was clearly a Crunchy Frog. I'm praying that we don't get a Spring Surprise before season's end. -
Nine turnovers. Nine. And all in glorious, full-color tv. Crap, crap, crap.

I'll be darned. Signs of life.

Conversation With A Cashier
RushnStudies replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Way to listen to your parent, Fake Lonnie. That's a cute story. -
Crap. I had a whole nice longish response all typed out and then my wifi had a brain fart. Suffice it to say, I agree that this is skeery. I don't know a thing about Levine, but knowing our administration there, they won't fire him if we have a losing season. And seriously, what's with SMU and all these "cramps" all of a sudden? I've seen maybe 3 or 4 featured on tv already. I'm not making any accusations, but really, it's only happening to the Ponies and not the Coogs? Or maybe our cramps just don't make good tv...
-
I don't think so. They'll probably keep him at least another year. Congrats are in order for June Jones now, however. His team's performance (and Houston's lack of same so far) will temporarily squelch discussion that he just doesn't give a crap this season.

Apparently, nobody who can actually HOLD ON TO THE BLASTED BALL got on the darn buses.

Keep hope alive. Me, I'm pretty dang worried.

1989, their first year back from the death penalty, with Ware at QB. Final score was 95-21. This performance is just embarrassing. Botched punt returns and turnovers, interceptions, Piland taking that hit that's taken him out of the game... Ugh. Looks like the Coogs who played Texas State made the road trip to Ford. Seems like every time we play this badly, we're on tv. Ugh ugh ugh.
