  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but last year, didn't we lose by a lot more than that to a D2 team? How can anyone who watched our defense keep Florida from scoring more than 32 think that we haven't improved and we're "throwing away" the season?
  2. The kid is a beast who's getting it done. And yes, he is fun to watch. The announcers during the OU game kept talking about how fast he moves for someone who's so stout.
  3. We all knew that was going to happen. The MOB, while inappropriate and off-color, has always had some cojones. Good for them.
  4. *sings* One of these things is not like the other One of these things doesn't beloooong
  5. Yeah, he was a real grown-up about that. Stand up for your player, okay, but be a jackass... nah. THIS. I frowned at it too. McElwain's no daisy.
  6. We did. They came back with lame insults. Really lame. Ho hum.
  7. Wow, I had no idea. Our game last night had a full crew from the Fort Worth association.
  8. Okay, that makes sense. The folks I'm with don't particularly like it and have made a few comments about it, but I was just curious.
  9. Why in the world would Rick V come to the 2nd game of the university he was recently fired from??? I'd wanna stay as far away from here as possible, but he's in a suite near me, sure as his white moustache.
  10. NotOrvilleRedenbacher... I like it.
  11. I'm taking new roster addition Jerod Fritsch. Mama will give you a good home and some home cookin'.
  12. I just did this week. Food's still reliably good. They are Hangout Bar & Dine now, but their sign also says Rasoi under that.
  13. I'm sure it does. I'm not opposed to class-related fees; I just don't like that I've had to pay tuition and fees to UNT twice, once for UNT and once for NCTC *through* UNT.
  14. Mamas love football too! I'm just having a hard time limiting myself to one poor, homeless football child.
  15. I've eaten at Dix, both the coneys and the breakfast. It's very good, and yeah, the prices are reasonable. Friendly service, too. The son of the guy who owns the original Dix-- which is in Michigan-- owns/runs this one. The thing that throws most people is the chili. This isn't chunky Texas-style chili on your coney; it's a smooth-ish Greek immigrant-style chili sauce made with beef and some non-Texan seasonings. Anyone who's eaten at James Coney Island in Houston will recognize the style. Breakfast is served in several ways... traditional eggs, fried potatoes, pancakes, stuff like that, and they make their own desserts. They offer baklava cheesecake. Say that with me... baklava cheesecake. It was so popular that we couldn't get a slice until our third visit there because they'd run out. That's some damn good stuff. The last time we went to Giuseppe's, we were disappointed. The food was really, really off. We honestly will probably never go back. Breakfasts at Seven Mile Cafe are awesome. You will not walk away hungry from that place. My older son gets the crab cake benedict, and I've never had anything i haven't liked there. My one complaint about Mr. Frosty is that they don't salt their food much, but it's a good burger, so I don't really mind. And the root beer is the bomb. Last spring, I took lunch from Mr. Frosty's to my younger boy for his birthday, and one of his friends he sat with recognized the container, food, and root beer smell immediately. The poor kid looked wistfully from his school plate to my boy's yummies and nibbled at his Asian stir-fry. Another vote for Barley and Board. It's got a unique food personality. Their grilled cheese and tomato soup lunch special is great; they drizzle some seasoned oil into the soup that just... yum. If I want just a good ole sammich, it's Weinberger's. For Indian food, we hit up Rasoi. Yes. That's pretty good stuff. Breakfast tacos are reliably good, especially with their salsas.
  16. And we do, with regularity. Hashtag- BRISKET. Bet the House is very good. I haven't tried Juicy Pig yet... but I may have to try Big Fatty's just because of its name.
  17. It's a lot of fun to watch that guy play. JC, not TB.
  18. I suppose I could have written this in the Academics forum, but I read Harry's message there stating that that forum was meant for curious questions and encouraging answers. This isn't an encouraging or a disparaging post; I could probably best classify it as a gripe and an informative warning. We moved my older son into his dorm on campus last week. This week, he's been enjoying First Flight and going to run the track at Pohl every day. He likes his roommate well enough; they won't be OMG-besties, but they get along fine. He's been hanging out with some new friends, playing basketball and stuff like that. So far, he is really glad of his decision to stay near home and attend UNT. Today, my husband took our boy to the bookstore to buy his books. He's taking 16 hours total; two one-hour classes don't have books, and he's in a remedial course thanks to the Texas Success Initiative (TSI). While he excels in some areas-- for example, he's all but fluent in the foreign language he studied for 4 years in high school-- he struggles in one area in particular. He has to take this remedial course, which counts towards his semester hourly course total and his GPA but *not* towards core requirements for UNT, before he can take the next level of course that *will* count towards his core. Imagine our surprise when we looked at his fee statement and found a charge for $600 for that remedial class. Not $30 to $40 for the language lab, not $40 to $50 for an online class, but a SIX HUNDRED DOLLAR instructional fee for ONE class. In addition to the tuition for the course, mind you. And at the bookstore this morning, he learned that the two books he needs for this class cost over $350 total. And of course, these are books that he can't use for any other course at UNT. We then learned that these remedial classes aren't taught by UNT faculty; they contract the course out to instructors from NCTC and pass along that fee to the students and their families. You really mean to tell me that you can't find some doctoral students in the departments to teach those remedial classes? There are certain costs that are associated with college attendance, yes. I saw my husband through his advanced degrees and I'm getting one at UNT now. It would just have been very nice... and prudent... for us to be told that we were going to have to pay an additional $600 (and if you add in the books, it's almost $1000) for *one* (ONE!) course that he is required to take before he can take his core (and thereby also required) course in this area. So, fair warning to those of you who have almost college-aged kids who may struggle in one TSI area... save up some additional cash just in case they don't achieve the scores they need to on the SAT/ACT/TSI.
  19. General fan base members, yes... people from this board, I have no idea.
  20. I get what you're saying, but with a few tweaks to the situation you described, that's what I encountered when I met the CoogFans. We scream our fandom without screaming our nerdiness.
  21. It isn't. I'm not trying to be contrary for the sake of being contrary. It *should* be an easy case to mitigate because he did accept responsibility, etc. I guess my caution is colored by years of working with the courts in Harris County-- where a defendant stood a better chance of receiving punishment than lenience.
  22. It is. Especially if he gets the "wrong" judge.
  23. I hold grudges. :-P Signed, A Ryan Mom
