anyone know what WR option he could have been this season (1, 2, or 3)? looks like he may have been partying a little too hard last night...noticed him this morning on the denton jail report for dwi. i'm interested to see how Littrell handles this situation. for no good reason, i got a lot of faith in goree and rutherford turning some heads this year and maybe they can pick up the slack if this guy is no longer part of the plan. gotta pray for none of our other receivers to get into any off-field trouble. hope smiley is able to get this issue sorted out and get his life back on track quick.

I called a few weeks ago to renew mine. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of calling at 4:50 and the guy that wanted to go home at 5:00 answered. I was told that their computer was not working and that i needed to call back in the morning. The next morning I called as soon as they opened and the computers were working fine. Sadly, this wasn't my first experience with the ticket office to be told to call back at a later time.

i got a funny feeling about next season's basketball team go mean green

You're right. Benford is a much better option than Shields. I'm just butt-hurt now... was really hoping to save my 500th post for the Benford firing thread, but instead the sun belt trolled it out of me.

Every team typically gets better or worse following a coaching change... unless you are Duke, UNC, or Kansas and you are always good. Sadly, my school is on the wrong end of this situation. Could we find a better candidate than Shields, ABSOLUTELY, but i wouldn't complain if we landed his experience and gave him a chance to operate with a reasonable budget. Your post sounds as if they were not good when he was there. He's the winningest coach in that school's history, had a +.500 overall record, had a winning record in half the season's he coached, had 5 sbc west 1st place finishes, and mixed in a couple 20 win seasons. That's not a bad effort for a small university competing against football schools with a bit more money to spend. Like him or not, he would be a substantial upgrade from what we are currently dealing with in Denton. Did you ever get to watch your team lose a conference tourney championship game to him on a last second 3 in OT? If you still choose to not appreciate the work he did, just know that he was a pain in the rear for UNT fans and (if ever hired by unt) would deserve a chorus of boo's (for good measure) from the home crowd during the player/coach introduction during his first game at the pit.

For some strange reason, i kind of wish we would consider Steve Shields. I used to love when our student section would give him a hard time. He seemed to always have an angry "Gene Keady look" on his face, but his teams always tormented us to no end and once got the best of us at the worst possible time (2011 sun belt tournament). I know UALR got rid of him, but It just seems like he was able to get a lot out of nothing while he was there. Looks like he's currently part of the staff at Mizzou.

Besides the lack of conditioning, I'm not seeing much basketball talent from Fuller. I've been waiting to see him do anything special on offense or defense and there just isn't anything he can offer. I'd really like to read the reports some of our scouts wrote when recruiting a bunch of our current roster. I assume the report for Carrington Ward looked something like this... "extra timmed, afraid of the ball, afraid of opposing players, intimidated by his own teammates. prefers to leave his arms straight with his hands resting against his legs at all times, including while running around the perimeter trying to avoid any involvement with the game of basketball" The straight arms are a coaching issue that should have been solved 2 offseason's ago during his first practice with unt. He's never prepared to catch a pass, and is always about a second behind the defenders reaction time as he tries to assume the dribbling position. I don't see any talent in Pittman either, but at least he always has a full head of steam as soon as he gets his hands on the ball. I know he can't shoot, but i usually trust him to catch a pass, dribble, and play defense better than Ward, which is all we can pray for when Deckie is on the bench. I'll be happy to post our coaches scouting report on Holston if anyone is interested. I wasn't a big fan of Brown at the start of the season, but he's really proven my initial thoughts wrong. I trust him to shoot almost as much as DJ and his aggressive perimeter defense along with outstanding dribbling/passing skill set is a welcomed sight.

Win or lose, I'm really digging our uniforms with the black trim and the dancers new outfits. sports

The story of last seasons wide receivers... poorly designed routes, awful talent evaluation, inferior quarterback, smiley dropping balls, and a selfish child as the #1 option. In that system, Goree did not get enough touches and Rutherford never saw the field. I'm confident that the Carthage duo can be serious threats and I don't think we will have anything to worry about at that position with the new coaching staff's game plan and at least an average QB.

Brice kept this from being a 20+ point stomping with his defensive presence. All he does is force the other team to take bad shots and Idaho's shooting % was proof of that. I'm fine with him scoring 2-4 points a night if he averages 4 blocks and a dozen or more rebounds per game. The awkward shots he forces are as good as made baskets for us. I expected a lot more from Fuller, and the coaching staff apparently did to after they decided to bench him almost the entire 2nd half after giving him another start. Maybe in a couple more years he can turn into a Roger Franklin type and be a high volume rebounder, baseline scorer, and emotional leader. I'll be very confused if Benford decides to start him again tomorrow. Not sure what to think about Holston's lack of stats, very intrigued by Deckie. Ward and Pittman have no business being on the floor unless we are either winning or losing by 25 points with 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd half. I missed the 1st game vs Jarvis, so maybe i missed a few circus show dribbles against an inferior opponent. Just not sure why I'm not seeing the skill-potential I keep reading about Brown. I hope he can someday produce some awesome stats, but he's not even close to being a difference maker like CJ was during his freshman season. All I saw tonight was a couple playground dribbles followed by missed jumpers and a crucial last minute turnover that was simply dribbled out of bounds... not that any of Reese's turnovers during the game weren't just a crucial, this just seemed like the worst possible timing. I bet even Ray Natili was scratching his head when he saw how many fouls were called in the Super Pit tonight.

What I'd Like To See During The Tennessee Blowout
Maduro replied to HarringtonFishSmeller's topic in Mean Green Football
i've been in "develop" mode since i saw the roster on the field during the smu loss. also, everyone knows that i am a superior talent evaluator when compared to any current coach on the unt staff. rutherford was randy moss at carthage. just one time this season i would like to see us toss up a deep ball down the sideline and watch him compete for a jump ball against ncaa competition. and before anyone replies with "dude, i'm sure they tried that in practice and he sucked", just know that i don't care and i want to see him given the opportunity to either succeed or fail in a game. outside of jordan murray, he might have the most "NFL'y" body we've got. goree was brelan chancellor at carthage. give him the ball more and find out what he might be capable of. and before anyone replies with "dude, every WR recruit looks like brelan chancellor on their high school highlight reel", just know that i don't care and i want him to start getting every one of Smiley's targets from this point forward. -

What I would like to see... 1. Goree and Rutherford as our top wide receiver options 2. no punting and only onside kickoffs... what do we have to lose? After portland state, i no longer feel shame and we wouldn't be the first ncaa team to try out a gimmick. What i will see... 1. Litton's burger special followed by the red velvet cake 2. moonshine 3. prime rib at the Copper Cellar 4. a big boat parked on the boardwalk with my green flag flying on top -
MGB: Five thoughts following UNT's win over UTKFC
Maduro replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Their band director needs to be instructed on when to play music. I was hearing the Go Runners or Ghostbusters songs when their team made good plays (tackles for losses, big offensive plays) AND when our team got first downs. Does Tennessee play Rocky Top, or does SMU play the most obnoxious sound in all of sports (she'll be coming round the mountain) anytime the other team converts? The only comparison i can think of is USC constantly playing the trojan march. -
Hire any cheap name right now and in 10 years pull a Tech and bring in DT. he knows the spread, might not jump ship if P5 ever called, and has already passed my wife's "kingsbury - easy on the eyes" test. Isn't that the coaching criteria that 99% of college football fans actually care about?
-
agreed... I'll prepare the "sippy cups" again if more rain comes on the 10th, and my dominos are still water proof. i just need a couple hours of sunshine to smoke some sausage and grill some wings even if our quarterbacks have more turnovers than scores.

do y'all remember back when we kind of had an okay team in the other conference?

Where would you spend the 5.5 Million @SuperPit?
Maduro replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
you can always move the team benches further into the corner like every NBA stadium. Most of those players watch the games without a chair. Or... why not build a stage behind the scorers table. it works just fine for a couple rows of premium seats on the opposite side of the stadium. if space is still that much of an issue, they might be able to get rid of the first row of seats behind the scorer's/media section to allow a few more feet. -

All I care about is the media section being moved to the floor level... and a built-in paper towel dispenser added to my seat. -
