LOL, There's nothing better than spending time coaching your kids in youth sports. Soon they will be in High School and then off to College. So enjoy the the time you spend with them.

Los Angeles Vikings?
C Vo replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
If the Vikings do leave this would be the second team to leave Minnesota for Shaky Town. The Lakers left Minnesota years ago. The L.A. Vikings just doesn't sound correct. But, neither does the Utah Jazz! -
KHYI 95.3 FM has been playing Reckless Kelly for years.

UNT Announces new Deal with 95.3 KHYI FM (The Range)

This is not the first time the MGRN will be on THE RANGE. Football and Men's Basketball games were on KHYI about 10-12 years ago. So Hank does have a relationship with the stations ownership. I've been a loyal listener to this station for 15 or more years since they first started broadcasting. They have the greatest DJ ever in Brett Dillon. It's the only REAL country station in DFW, all the other are just pretenders that play the Nash-Vegas crap. I love it because it's not a polished, pretentious station. It's the way local radio was in the 60's and 70's. If you live in Southern Oklahoma, Sherman-Denison, Gainesville or the northern part of DFW (Frisco, Denton, Plano) the signal will be fine. Any area in northern Ft. Worth or in central Dallas will not get it. KHYI has a few technical problems with the left channel intermittently going out from time to time that's distracting when it goes off while listening in your car and sometimes the station has dead air, but that’s what I love about KHYI. This is a Texas Country-Red Dirt Music station that has a unique on air sound. -
SO, IT'S HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEASON
C Vo replied to SilverEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't understnd why some of you are blowing a gasket over HS games being played at Apogee. I checked all the of 1st round HS playoff games set for this Thursday-Saturday and there are only two College Stadiums used for games. Baylor has two games and Houston's Stadium has one game. If the stars and planets align up correctly after Thanksgiving there could be several games played at Apogee. Of course, that is if the two schools want to pay the high fee. The fact is Apogee is the new kid on the block and it will take a while for the UNT staff to build relationships with HS Coaches/AD who make decisions on where they play. -
SO, IT'S HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEASON

The cost for renting the stadium is very much true. I was told by a local High School Coach friend of mine that how much UNT is charging local high schools. Yes, a high school game could be played there, especially during the later rounds if a 5A/4A from east Texas meets up with a team from west Texas. -
The rental cost for High School Football playoff games at Apogee is................. (DRUM ROLL) ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... $23,000.00! That's $6,000.00 more than SMU's stadium! I don't feel many High Schools will be able to afford the stadium at that rate.

Ryan turned in 2121 students which will put them in 5A and Guyer turned in 2064 students, which is one less than the 5A cutoff from 2 years ago. So Guyer could go back down to 4A.
-
Have things really changed since Ryan was playing in the state championship game 10 years ago? It's the same Forum guys on here complaining that Ryan (or now Denton) didn't have a big fan following when they were winning state championships. Denton likes playing at Bronco Field because just a few hundred fans fills the place. Also, Denton is winless in district and Broncos fans aren't going to come out for a beating against Ryan. Which by the 4th quarter it was. I give Denton credit they played hard for most of the game, but turnovers got 'em. It will be interesting to see what type of crowd shows up on Nov. 4th for the Guyer/SLC game. I know SLC travels well.
-
Fact, Guyer is 5A and Ryan is in 4A. They haven't played eachother since December of 2009. Well have to wait until Feb. to see if both schools make it to the same 5A district.

For those who care. Here is an interesting link about New Mexico only using wood bats next year for high school. http://www.alamogordonews.com/ci_18410337

Thanks, I wonder how the 2nd generation of BBCOR's coming out this fall will improve or change again. Bat manufactoring is a big business and they are always trying to do something to get a upper hand over the competition.
-
The BBCOR bats replaced the BESR bats in College this year. The BBCOR bat has a smaller sweet spot and is heavy ended. The difference between both of them is basiclly bat exit speed and that has been "dumbed" down so to speak. The BBCOR bat is nothing like wood, but it is close. It has changed College baseball this season. Offensive home runs and averages are way down. It has placed a premium on pitching, defense and speed in the outfield. This is one reason why DBU and other smaller schools are doing well in the NCAA tournamnet. One change in a rule has changed the whole make up of the game. Good, quality Pitching is now a premium, as it always has been, it's just helped smaller schools compete. Pitchers can now throw inside and dominate a good hitter. Texas High Schools will have to use the BBCOR bats next season. California High Schools used it this year had the same results as NCAA Colleges have had. Thank God my son is a High School pitcher. He needs to hit the weight room to help him swing the heavy ended bat.

Rusty Greer is coaching a 10 year old select team right now! Yes, he's a well known name around these parts, but there other college coaches who would be a better choice.
-
My first choice for a head coach would be Skip Johnson. He's a hometown guy that has proven himself in recruiting at Texas and Navarro College. He actually was a pitcher for UNT the last time we had baseball. My only concern is he might be next in line when Augie retires. Now, you can start in on the Augie F Bomb jokes!

Big win for DBU. Dallas Baptist beat Oklahoma baseball today 3-2 at the Regional in Ft. Worth. Half of the DBU Patriots are from the North Texas area. DBU has been building a great program with mostly local talent for the past several years and it's starting to pay off.

What are the latest plans for adding a baseball program? I know a facility will have to be built & there are some Title 9 problems to address. Division 1 baseball only gets 11.5 scholarships so the Title 9 issues aren't that great. I'm a big fan of softball. But having a baseball team on campus is what I need to enjoy spring & early summer. Do you think baseball will be added in 3, 4, 5 or more years? This post has been promoted to an article
