I think you are right, UNT just needs to get another instate program on the schedule every year and a rivalry may be born. This has been somewhat solved with getting SMU on the schedule for 2014-2017 with an option to extend it. Take a look at SMU future OOC schedule http://bit.ly/nh2v9G they play all Texas teams and Navy. That is what UNT should be doing even if that means having to play UTSA and Texas State.

Exactly, UNT should get their licks in now. They are going to be so bad the next few years. Establish dominance over them early.

What task? Not a single one of those has sold out. Playing K State, Houston, Navy and Indiana once or twice doesn't do crap. If UNT was playing Houston on a steady basis then that would be one thing but that is just one home for home contract. You can't really be a rival with anyone unless you play them on a steady basis. Whether you want to admit it or not UTSA and Texas State are going to be FBS next season.

UTSA and Texas State would actually play UNT home and home a regular basis. Those are games that have a decent chance to sellout and actually make UNT some money. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to schedule a home game that would sellout and make the school some money instead of taking an away game at Alabama for cash. So many posters on here have the exact same piss poor attitude that they claim other schools have about UNT.

You are right it seems much smarter to do nothing. I don't think there would be any negative feelings about this if it wasn't SMU who did it.

I'm pretty sure in that scenario that UNT would be a lock.

Part of this is that kids out west usually take a lot longer to commit than kids in Texas and in the southeast

You must not have seen much of Gary Patterson. He is very prone to ranting. Went on a rant last year about wanting to put a kid in with a concussion even though the team doctor told him no. Gary said that as far as he was concerned the kid was fine.

They are the smallest school in D1, a tiny band should be expected.

I don't think this is the case with McNulty but some coaches think they can recruit up so they don't mind being frivolous with redshirts.

Neinas is on many schools payrolls as a consultant. He is also on a few conferences payrolls. I doubt he would give UNT any preferential treatment considering he has had past dealings with a lot of FBS schools.
