OC Mike Canales WILL BE the next head coach of the Mean Green! THIS WILL HAPPEN!!! UNT WILL WIN 8 GAMES in 2011 - instead of being the start to a new generation of football success at UNT, Dodge will simply be remembered as the last of the old generation head coaches. The last man to coach the mean green at Fouts Field.

So I haven't been on in a while.... let me get this straight... there going to tear down the Radisson just to build another hotel? Where again is our new stadium going? I'm confused.... i thought thats why we were tearing all this crap down....

I was just thinking.... HOW DID MICHAEL BEASLEY END UP AT K-STATE? its just weird to me that the potential number 1 selection in the upcoming NBA draft played his college days at Kansas State of all places. Maybe he was recruited by Huggins before he left for the West Virginia, but why not try to bring a kid like that along for ride? It makes perfect sense with a player like Derrick Rose going to Memphis, given his past, but Michael Beasley to Kansas State? It just doesn't add up to me. Another Thought.... We all know that one "1-year" rule really helps out college basketball but, does it help out smaller basketball programs like UNT? Imagine if players had to go to school for at least four years. Would that strengthen are chances of getting higher caliber players are weaken it? That being asked, i believe it will probably help our program because of the simple fact that because all of the high school talent must go to college for four years to go to the NBA, we will see a filter down effect. The players who would have normally gotten full rides to UNC, DUKE, or UCLA might end going to West Virginia, USC, Miami; and then all the players who would have went to lower tier power schools end going to mid-majors and so on and so forth. Of Course the Nation's elite basketball players, regardless of any rules in place, more than likely going to end up with the big boys anyways. So perhaps this would only apply to players who would ride the pine at places like UNC or Duke but be stars at West Virginia, USC, Miami and be worshiped at places Davidson(Curry), or Western Kentucky(Lee). Thoughts? Opinions?

i thought this might be interesting for some. For all those who doubt the Sun Belt is getting better and garnering more attention this might help sway you. It would appear the Sun Belts only bowl game did okay afterall.... TV ratings

Do the guys have a chance to make the NIT? i know its not the prom but theres nothing wrong with the sadie hawkins dance. LOL.... seriously though, anybody know how the NIT works? I wonder if the selection commitees follow similar guidelines

If the season had ended last night, Denver, the team we just man-handled would have been a second seed and have a bye in the first round of the conference tournament. That is truly unbelievable.... i mean, how did we lose to them the first time? North Texas' future is in there on hands now and every game is important. Does anybody see us possible getting hot and catching fire like we did last year? i know theres still a few games left to be played but last night UNT didi something they have not done in a long long long time. RUN!!!!!!!!!!! Collin Dennis even said it himself, it feels like they haven't run in like 4 years. I think we still have a very good chance of coming away with the west division and possible a sun belt conference championship once again. Of course consistency is needed with UNT and on so many different levels. They havent been healthy, and everybody pray for BB, the defense has been horrible and the offense has been slugish. That being said, they looked great last night and played with a lot of emotion. Another question I would like to pose is, Exactly how good is MTSU? they just knocked off USA and them along with WKU and USA are the only teams 3 games above .500. They also seem to be getting better. Anyways.... just a few thoughts.......

i actually think our offense is smoother and much more fluid when Collin starts and keith does not. but really its not about keith..... collin should be starting. why is TT in front of him? Collin is by far our biggest threat in the half court offense. his relentlessness to the basket leads to key threes by players like dez and josh. not to mention that him and ben play the best man defense. he really gets after it on both ends of the court

whether a team plays a zone, man, 2-2-1 we are going to struggle until we learn how to get off to a quick start. IMO this is th real reason for the woes of north texas. it takes 5-7 minutes for our basketball team to get their heads in the game and actually start playing. Their intensity level at the start of games is so low you would think there still warming up. NT is by far a 2nd half team and luckily we have been playing teams that were heads and shoulders better than or our record might not be as good as it is. I've noticed that NT has some what of a swagger to it now. and by no means is there anything really wrong with that if your gonna peform on a level worthy of having a swagger. It feels like we havnt given our best effort yet(with the exception of OSU). I believe that are team has reached a level of talent now where they can focus on different things. Its the little stuff thats killing us. Not pushing the basketball, allowing teams to get back on defense and setup in zones, stupid turnovers. I dont believe our wings do enough damage against opposing teams. As good as keith and quincy are, this is still a guard oriented team that is at its best when it can get up and down the floor use its athleticism. Keith Wooden will not official be "in shape" until the last game of the season. So i think yes its good to go to him early but unless he is just on fire we need to run plays for collin or just let jw isolate. This hi-low stuff with woody and Q is not working. Q is at his best as a 3rd option. He relishes that cleaning up role. again it is early in the season but by now we should know what works and what doesnt.

after crowd like last nights anything else is unacceptable. Obviously this was a highly anticipated game but something has to be done to keep this fire going. Last nights attendance should be a regularity at the super pit. The basketball team is doing their job and now its time for us to do ours. The challenge is getting those fair-weather fans to come to the game consistently. Yes... one can argue that if they weren't going in the bad times we don't need them in the good times but i think we do. I'd like to see the super pit rocking every home game. And don't even get me started on double headers, especially if the ladies turn it up a notch. I dont know how villareal wants to handle this but something has to be done.

Is Tcu Really Happy Being In The Mwc?
agw0038 replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
i think the people in charge over there at TCU did a wise thing moving out of CUSA and into the M-DUB-C. once the frogs realized they were so much better than everybody else in CUSA they had to move. Honestly the move was made based on the anticipation that the frogs program would continue to grow and a possible BCS birth was right around the corner. I also questioned why TCU didnt try harder for the Big 12. It all makes sense now. There are very few schools as small as Texas Christian with a football program like Texas Christian's. Infact, TCU is an oddity. It continues to have competitve football teams in a recruiting market where they are 3rd or 4th at best. For TCU to be successful it is very crucial that they do not have to directly compete with the big boys for recruiting(UT,OU,A&M). Moving to the MW opened up their recruiting range and really only two of the big boys back at home can compete with it. I do think they are happy with MW. They have their issues with scheduling but what school and head coach doesnt? If they are a little disgruntled it is only because there present campaign has by no means lived up to its hype. -
Franchione to Dallas? i think it could happen. Even with such a poor performance this season, Fran costs some money. SMU has shown in the past that they are willing to pay top dollar for the best product . I say he stays in Texas comes up here to Dallas and tries to turn the Spoiled Nation around. That might hurt our recruiting....

yeah its sad to seem always injured. However, at this point i prefer Micah Mosely. He runs harder than Jamario. Mosely explodes through holes like 2004 Jamario. Granted doesnt have the speed of thomas but you can work on that. The sense of urgency is whats most important
-
you are correct. Theres nothing wrong with running a defense based on making reads and reacting to what the offense gives you. The problem comes occurs when, like you said, our personnel doesn't fit our strategy. I just truly believe we are not aggresive enough on defense. Aggressiveness doesn't necessarily translate to blitzing. In certain situations we just need the offense to think we're blitzing. Rarely do u see linebackers walk up to the line of scrimmage before the ball snapped. I've yet to seen any stunts by the D-Line. Mendoza seems to be trying to mold his players into a bend dont break type defense. Bend dont break will not work with the players we have now. We dont have enough speed on the edges(thankyou OU), and our running backs bite hard on the run fake. Why? because they are out there trying to the 3-4 with only three linebackers. With big-hitting LBs like we have, you would think Mendoza would at least zone blitz a little. Dont get me wrong he doesnt need to jail-break it like our neighbors to the south at Rich & Retarded University, but a little grittiness would be nice. There is no sense of urgency on defense.

haha.... Insight. dont hold it against me bro...

can anyone provide some incite on Evan Roman? Why is dodge so high on this guy? Talking to some of the players, apparently Roman is pretty dominant at the CB position during practices. Some players have said the poor start against Malcolm Kelly(OU) has killed his confidence. He seems to possess the speed neccessary to play the position. My one beef is his height and the fact that it seems he's always playing the other teams tallest receiver. I dont know whether to blame Mendoza for not recognizing the mismatches or maybe Roman just isnt that good. I've been reading other topics on the lack of creativity in our defensive scheme. Perhaps thats what the problem is. Our strategy is so bad, every play our corners are left on a island. Also, anybody have a recruiting update?

POUNCE AWAY......

man..... we aint winning nothing this week except the "Most Turnovers award" I doubt we score more than 21 points on this Arkansas team. They're struggling just as much as we are and this game will be a confidence booster for the razorbacks. We might even see some things from Arkansas that the others schools they have played did not. The game will be nothing more than a practice fo the razorbacks. Vizza wont even come in until the 3rd quarter and by then, the game will pretty much be over. Instead of hoping that vizza comes in we should hope the team has the same type of offensive day they had against SMU and the same type of defensive day they had against FAU(1st 3 quarters). 56-21. IF WE UPSET ANYBODY, IT WILL BE NAVY

yeah i uh beg to differ also. Flemmings could play bro.

What do you think Todd Dodge will do with a kid of his athletic ability? If Meager and Vizza are the future, what of W.W.? WR possibly?

has anyone ever heard that new station the Sports Fan 990. i saw some stuff about it in the DMN. i wonder if thats anygood -
Dickey won 4 rings and was not a very good recruiter. we are already starting to see the signs of That TD will bring a change. The question is, How big of a change can we expect in say a 3 or 4 year period. Assuming TD brings success how much better will the talent become. Can we ever compete with say a TCU or TECH for Recruits?
-
i know we really dont have a "rival" but is there any school out there that could be considered one? UTA perhaps? they seemed to really not like us. Maybe TCU. but it might not be the same with that program not being very good. There's always the Fonies who, if scheduling allows will quickly again become again our most hated rival in football, might be our basketball rival as well. I like to see us play a team like U of H every year. They play so similar to the way we do and the makeup of the schools is very similar as well. i dunno. i know we need a great rivalry with somebody. That will bring fans, alumni, ESPN, and just money in general Everybody tune in to the Sports fan 990 AM!

I think TD put together a pretty good class considering his lack of time. JJ, however, had the better recruiting class. We(basketball) were actually in the race to get good players and we got some. Next year, (depending on TD's success more or less), the football class will be extremely talented. And trying to as positive as possible, if JJ is able to either repeat or increase his success his class will be great.

when does the UNT basketball schedule come out?
