To begin the team’s season, North Texas football (1-0) defeated South Alabama (0-1) 52-38 in an offensive shootout after trailing 14-19 by halftime. The catalyst for their second-half victory was the following third quarter, where the Mean Green outscored South Alabama 28-7 to take a 42-32 lead. By the end of the game, North Texas defeated the 68 Ventures Bowl winner 52-38, a stark comparison to last season’s 58-21 loss to the University of California. With 77 new players total, including starters, head coach Eric Morris said he values any early momentum kicking off their season. “For us to go out there and compete together for the first time with so many young guys, so many transfers [...] I think to get a little momentum right off the jump is important for us,” Eric Morris said. While the Mean Green fell into a five point deficit by the end of the first half, the team started out strong scoring on an initial 79 yard drive. At the 2-yard line, junior quarterback Chandler Morris faked the handoff on a read option and ran into the endzone to score the team’s first touchdown. Although the drive was capped off by the quarterback’s legs, it was his arm sustaining most of their drives. Chandler Morris ended his night with a 78 percent completion, hitting 32 of his 41 passing attempts for 415 yards and three touchdowns. His 32 completions ended up in 10 different receivers’ hands, to which Eric Morris credited the quarterback’s poise and the offense’s protection. “Chandler did a phenomenal job of going through his progressions,” Eric Morris said. “When we protect like that, it allows you to do it.” LINK TO MORE: https://www.ntdaily.com/sports/explosive-offense-wins-shootout-in-north-texas-football-s-52-38-win-at-south-alabama/article_f51909e8-6bd9-11ef-a617-c7805976f243.html

You guys have had teams like Texas Tech, Texas A$M, Baylor, Okie State and heck TCU every other year. It's not a fair comparison. The best team we have ever had at home is Cal, Indiana and Houston? Utah coach believes the Big Split is coming = Super Conferences
Dannymacfan replied to NT80's topic in Conference ReAlignment
That's why I don't think they want us to go completely away. They still need non conference wins to pad their records. Just like we play teams like SFA and Portland State and the like. -
It's a mediocre small barbeque place. I seriously doubt they are shipping much out of there.

Ladies come up short again vs. Colorado. BOULDER, Colorado — The UNT women's soccer team outshot Colorado 16-12 over its 90-minute road exhibition but in the end fell short on Saturday, 4-3. In what was the Mean Green's final preseason match before the regular season begins on Aug. 15 versus Oklahoma, North Texas got goals from sophomore Alexis Miller, freshman Claire Niedermeier and senior Rachel Roebuck. All three goals were equalizers. UNT on Saturday faced a Buffaloes squad coming off a 2023 NCAA Tournament appearance and had victories last year over two top 25 opponents. Last season Colorado only gave up three goals twice all year and it was against No. 3 Stanford and No. 5 UCLA — both times at home. After falling behind in the 18th minute on Saturday, Miller leveled the score in 31st minute. The sophomore forward also scored on Thursday in North Texas' 2-2 draw at reigning Mountain West runner-up Colorado State. The Buffaloes responded quickly and took a 2-1 lead into the half. However, the lead didn't last long as Niedermeier beat the CU keeper bottom left to tie the match in the 48th minute. Niedermeier was one of four Mean Green freshmen to start Saturday. Abner Haynes and teammate Leon King broke Texas college football color barrier when they suited up for North Texas State's freshman football team in 1956. After Haynes death in July, head coach Eric Morris and linebacker Jordan Brown remember the impact the pair still has today. https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2024/08/07/abner-haynes-may-be-gone-at-north-texas-he-s-not-forgotten
