DENTON – Atin Wright hit a game-winning 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining as the UNT men’s basketball team defeated Oregon State 58-55 at the Super Pit on Monday night. Three North Texas (5-1) players finished with double-digit point totals as the Mean Green remained undefeated at home this season. Latrell Jossell finished with a season and game-high 15 points. Brenen Lorient scored a career-high 14 points, extending his streak of double-digit point games to three. UNT has now beaten two high-major teams this regular season — they defeated Minnesota 54-51 on Nov. 13. It’s the first time they’ve accomplished that since the 2010-11 season when they beat Texas Tech and LSU in the same year during the regular season. The Mean Green continued to be one of the most efficient defensive teams in the country, forcing 22 Beavers turnovers, UNT’s highest total since Nov. 26, 2020 when the Mean Green defeated Mississippi Valley State 116-62 at home. "Our ability to turn them over 22 times in a one-possession game was the separator," head coach Ross Hodge said. " That's a really good team that can really shoot. We talked about it in one of the [media timeouts] that we were going to really have to string together some of our best defensive possessions and I thought that group in the second half was really good." North Texas took a close 26-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. Oregon State (4-2) came out hot to begin the second half and held the lead until the 5:38 mark. 13 of the Beavers’ 22 turnovers came in the second half, ultimately leading to the Mean Green’s close victory. North Texas travels to Kissimmee, Fla. to take on Northern Iowa on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT for their first game of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Anyone else still rooting for Eric Morris?
Dannymacfan replied to MeanGreenZen's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly. Also, when does the spotlight start moving over to the AD with all these bad hires? I also don't just "give" Mosley the Ross Hodge hire as that was a slam dunk he inherited from big Wren. -
Wow good data but as you say it just proves Morris is an unmitigated disaster!
-
wow if UNT did not do something similar with Morris I will be extremely disappointed. Morris had MUCH lower credentials than Hermans did!

I promise you, when not if Eric gets his walking papers, I can promise you that he will bitch about the lack of NIL monies he received compared to the other AAC schools. Fired UMass Football Coach’s Wife Blasts School Over NIL Money A couple days after his firing, Brown's wife, Deborah, took to social media to air some complaints about her husband's departure from the program. Specifically, Deborah raised the issue of the lack of NIL funding UMass receives. "The combination of NIL money of the teams UMass played this season is a combined $48,798,653 million dollars to our $36,000. And we played how many teams so close?!" wrote Deborah on X. And I can promise you homeboy Craponi is already saying it! Link: https://www.si.com/college-football/fired-umass-football-coach-s-wife-blasts-school-over-nil-money

DENTON – The UNT men’s basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with an 80-63 home win over Evansville Tuesday night. The Mean Green (1-0) led by as many as 29 points early in the second half and newcomers Jasper Floyd, Johnathan Massie and Atin Wright combined for 57 of North Texas’ 80 total points. “I thought in the first half we played as close to perfect basketball as possible,” Massie said. “But give a lot of credit to Evansville. They kept fighting and they are a really good team.” The Mean Green scored 42 points in the first half, which tied their first half point high from all of last year. On the defensive end UNT played its signature clamp down defense to get a big double digit early lead. Evansville shot just 27 percent from the floor and 15 percent from deep in the first half as they trailed by 25 at the break. In the second half, the Purple Aces’ star freshman Gabriel Pozzato exploded for 20 of his 28 points and brought his team back from the once 29-point deficit to 12 points late in the game. “The game opened up a little and they started hitting shots and the rhythm we had early the game went away but they’re a solid team,” Floyd said. “We were probably a little fatigued too but overall I thought it was a great game and I’m proud of our fight.” Floyd finished with 23 points, just one point shy of his single game career high. Massie had 18 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Wright hit four 3-pointers, all in the first half, and finished with 16 points. Six newcomers in total played for North Texas and they combined for 71 of its 80 points. Returner Moulaye Sissoko started and had six points, four rebounds, two assists and a career-high four steals in 24 minutes of action Tuesday was North Texas’ 12th straight season opening victory. They’ll aim for a 2-0 start on Thursday when they host Wayland Baptist at the Super Pit as part of a double header with the women’s basketball team. The women’s game starts at 5:30 and the men’s game will be right after. Yes I plan on going as well. If you make it post your thoughts and I will do the same. -
DENTON, Texas – UNT women’s basketball senior Tommisha Lampkin has been named to the 2024-25 Preseason Watchlist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Friday. Lampkin is one of 20 players on the list that annually recognizes the top centers in Division I women’s basketball. In January, the list will be cut down to 10 and eventually to five in March before a winner is announced. Throughout the season, the list will be fluid and players will have the ability to play themselves on or off the list until the five finalists are selected. Lampkin enters the 2024-25 season as the American Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year after earning First Team All-AAC honors a season ago. She averaged a career high 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while leading North Texas to its first conference title since 1986. Lampkin led the American in double doubles and field goal percentage, which was also a career high and ranked No. 7 in the country at 61.6%. The senior from Mansfield, Texas, will have an opportunity to approach program records in multiple statistical categories during her final season of eligibility. Already planted in the top 10 in career field goal percentage, rebounds, blocks and double doubles, she also ranks No. 16 in scoring after surpassing 1,000 career points in the final game of the 2024 season.
