  1. I also doubt that the NCAA has authority over Canadian schools....
  2. As much as I expected/wanted them to move on this year, as that is not the case I will say this: I hope his 5th year is stellar and he puts it all together and warrants an extension. I'm still 99% skeptical and pessimistic about it, but really, I'd be happier if he proved us all wrong than if we were to gamble on another coach that may be a disappointment.
  3. Do we want to do multiple ones again, or just stick with one? Also, remember that if there's a Rock Bottom near you, it's super easy to win prizes at rbcollegehoops.com if you do their bracket. Every year I pull in about $50-100 in free stuff from my bracket.
  4. Considering everything therein can be classified as "maybes" and "sometimes," not only are they still not the sum total of occurrences, but still go against the apparent certainly previously stated. Although yes, there is one part we agree on, which is that in the long run, hopefully the message to get help reaches the right people at the right time.
  5. Instead of leaving that hanging I'm just going to go ahead and disprove you. Your blanket statement was that "this thread isn't going to cause anyone to kill themselves." Since you can't know with any degree of certainty what else will be said in this thread (and note, you didn't say "what has already been said in this thread," but rather the more open-ended "this thread"), and since online interactions have been shown to have been the final thing that has put people over the edge, then although it's a statistical unlikelihood that this particular discussion would become something that would have such an effect, the tiny possibility of that happening is still greater than zero, which is where you placed it. There are a few times when erring on the side of caution should be the standard, and suicide is one of them. I don't see any triggers that would cause anyone to take your original post in a way that could add to a spiral, but the direction some of the comments are headed could lead to some very jacked-up material. And you can't be certain that someone wouldn't have opened this thread after seeing the title and hoped for some uplifting information that they needed at that particular moment. I don't see anything thus far in anyone's comments that would likely be the final push, but you can't be sure how far down some of their directions they or someone else might take it. So you want to be cautious about not predicting or hoping for any success in football, but choose to be incautious when discussing suicide? Got it.
  6. Since you're so familiar, please, tell us exactly what the magic formula is that creates that last straw that puts people over the edge. The entire mental health community has been waiting for such a degree of predictive capabilities.
  7. Moving past the mostly asinine "thoughts" with a few intelligent comments sprinkled in here..."highest-point signs" are best served in conjunction with other thoughtfully placed ones. Only a very small percentage of suicides take place at, or soon after, finding points of highest altitudes. Usually the self-inflicted wounds occur somewhere isolated. It may seem daunting to not only do as follows, but to have them visible by the public that UNT hopes would never have to think of things like reality, but it would be more effective to have them in stairwells of residence halls (where they would be seen before retiring to one's room), exits of major academic buildings (likely last points of contact before students who reside off-campus would see them before going home), and exiting all major common buildings like the Union, Rec Center (though endorphins released through sufficient exercise reduce the likelihood of suicide significantly), and Willis Library. For those of you who think it's funny, see what happens when your kids stab themselves or swallows their whole medicine chest with a fifth of bourbon. I'm probably the most offensive asshole on here, but when it comes to situations that involve people actually getting hurt, a lot of people need to watch their damn mouths. It's one thing to talk about how athletes should have tough skin when reading a fan board, but it's entirely different when you start going off about student suicides, because there should be NO presumption of toughness there, regardless of the public persona they may create, and the fact is, what you discuss about the issue online might be the last thing someone ever reads if they're already in a bad enough place. And if that's not enough...if statistics hold true, unless you only socialize online and have a tiny family, every one of you has a friend - and over half of you have a family member - who has attempted (not considered, but ATTEMPTED) suicide. If you don't know about it, your attitudes might be the reason why no one has told you. If you only want to find out after they're dead, then keep running your mouths around everyone else the way you do on here, and you're well on your way.
  8. Well, we hit the 11 I predicted...so I guess any more would be gravy?
  9. This is all just a really stupid debate for anyone in either fan pool at the moment...because at least one set of us (and possibly both sets) is likely to look somewhat ridiculous in a few months. So really, it's just a form of gambling, but instead of money, it's more a matter of perceived idiocy on the line. I'm not staking mine, and will keep it as unknown as is feasible for the time being.
  10. I already know his answer...I'm just curious to see how he phrases it ;)
  11. I can see pretty much all of your points if they're cops. And if they aren't, then yes, one could still reasonably expect some form of consequences. But those consequences should not be in excess of the amount of authority granted to personnel. So getting kicked out, banned, detained, fined, etc., yes. But when detention isn't possible or likely, beating the crap out of someone isn't a reasonable substitution, especially when the personnel are not police officers and are therefore incapable of charging the attendee with resisting or evading arrest. Does that summarize what works and doesn't about both sides well enough?
  12. If they're so weighted, then it might be too hard to levitate them anyway.
  13. Lack of misspellings leaves me with nothing left to work with but homophones in this particular situation.
  14. If Seth really kicks ass right off the bat, I could see as many as 6. UTEP, Rice, and UTSA haven't been so hot lately, and I hope SMU hasn't jumped too far ahead yet. Add in Bethune-Cookman and possibly Army, and we could be 6-6 if he gets us up to "moderate" for this season.
  15. I was going to mention State Club as well. It was awful, but it was awfully cheap. Everybody rotated their specials, so it was good to just keep an eye out. Could usually get Dollar Double Wells at least 2 nights a week on Fry, and there was usually beer for a buck or two or pitchers for just a couple/three-ish bucks all over town. Lots of $2-3 you-call-it as well. We really were spoiled. Almost everywhere I've been in this country, the specials are at least double what we paid. Luckily, most of the time when I'm traveling, other people buy my drinks. As for store-bought, handles of Jim Beam were what, 16 bucks? Most of the time that would last at least a day or two. The Brookshire's on Teasley had Rock Green Light when it first came out for like $6 per 12-pack for about a year, so that was my at-home beer for that time period. I tried to stay away from super-cheap booze like McCormick's and Wild Turkey, especially since the first time I got sick from drinking was nasty McCormick's vodka. However, once in a while you'll find an off-brand that's pleasantly surprising. Early Times is a pretty close substitute for Jim Beam.
  16. Since when is drinking the question? I thought it was the answer. Luckily, since the only game I made it to was Homecoming, I got there early and was fairly buzzed by game time. I had...whatever was offered to me. Most games, I don't get out here in AZ when we're doing badly. So the upside is that usually, if I can see a game here, it's because we are playing fairly well and I don't need to get too plastered to deal with it.
  17. So did they lose? I can't find the score anywhere. I was hoping they'd pull that one out.
  18. We tried that. Because of wildlife/endangered species regulations the best we could get was a live demonstration. Hardly anybody showed up and it was a few hundred bucks, so we stopped. If the group is still around and funds are available, we could always try again. If someone closer to Denton wants to look into it, they were called "Last Chance Forever."
  19. Admit it, everyone else thought this same thing when they saw the thread title.
