  1. USTA brings a number of items to the table. San Antonio brings a major TV and recruiting market. Networks are very strong on UTSA. Coker's name brings cred. to the program. UTSA has a VERY SOLID plan in place with strong community support. UTSA had staff members at UH/Rice home games to be fully prepared when they play the first game.
  2. Some of you have srious issues with reading comprehension. I never stated this bowl would replace the Alamo Bowl. It will be a second bowl game before Christmas. This game has been in the works for a while.
  3. Did not attend UTSA. The order listed was purely random. Somewhat childish of you to think the order listed was of some significance. Don't believe the information. That is your choice. Put what I am posting is accurate information.
  4. UH is the leading choice due to a much larger TV market. Their is still some infighting in the BE with some members favoring an eastern school. TCU needs a travel partner and UH fits that bill. Combine a larger TV market, new FB stadium and rennovated BB arena, with a larger recruiting base and UH looks solid. Don't forget, USF does not want UCF in the BE.
  5. Once again, if those options are not available then an expanded Sunbelt is more desirable than a very weak new WAC. Don't knock the new SB. The SB will challenge CUSA in the future. FIU is on the rise, FAU will improve with the news stadium and increased budgets, MTSU has proven itself as has Troy, ULaLA made a greta coaching hire and recruiting has drmatically improved. UNT and Tx St made solid hires. With UTSA in a FBS league, recruiting will improve dramatically under Coker. Ga St had a solid first year.
  6. You need those three schools for expanded TV markets and additional bowl games.
  7. Can't reveal sources but that are in positions as it effects conferrence realingment. The San Antonio Bowls would be in addition to the current bowl games. An enticement to invite UTSA, Tx St and Ga St. The San Antonio bowl has been in an exploratory for some time haveing focused on CUSA as the host league with the altimate goal of CUSA membership for UTSA as CUSA has UTSA high on their list for expansion. IF UH bolts for the BE, UTSA is most likley the replacement. If this happened, then NMSU would be a replacement for UTSA.
  8. Was justed informed about the possibility of a 14 team Sunbelt being discussed with a new bowl game in San Antonio against a CUSA or MWC team, in addition to a new bowl game in Atlanta most likely against a CUSA team. Sunbelt FB would be as follows: West Division UTSA UNT Tx St LaTech ULaLa ULM Ark St East Division Troy MTSU So Ala FIU FAU Ga State WKU Looks more and more as if the WAC is dead, esp if USU and SJSU depart for the MWC. Pending a CUSA or MWC invite, this would appear to be the better choice over what ever WAC Benson manages to salvage. Travel costs would be less than the new WAC and attendance should be stronger with local teams. Plus the Sunbelt will be in the major TV markets of DFW, SA and So Texas, Atlanta and Miami/Fort La. which equates to stronger revenue.
  9. UNT and UTSA are one backup plan in the likley event SMU and UH say no to MWC. As posted earlier, MWC desires to enter Texas for TV reveneus and recruiting. Don't be surprised if expansion is more than 12 teams. If the expanded field os schools will increase TV revenues and net school payouts the MWC will look at more than 12 schools.
  10. I'm sure everyone has heard about the rumors about SJSU and USU joining the MWC 12. While this is no guarantee I hear that if it does occur MWC would still be looking at the possibility of 14 and maybe 16 teams. The MWC wants to enter at least two of the top three tv markets in Texas. With UH and SMU showing no interest that gets them down to the metroplex and San Antonio with UNT and UTSA likely to join. With that combination they could convince UTEP to join as the metroplex has their largest alumni base. With UTEP on board maybe they could convince Rice to join to gain the Houston TV market, or most likley, extend an invite to La Tech or ULaLa. Maybe even Tulsa.
  11. I've been a fan of UNT going back to the Mean Green days. Glad to see the new stadium and recent hire of a great coaching staff. UNT should become a dominant force in Texas once again in a few years. Guys, I have it on good authority that the pair of UNT and UTSA are high on the MWC's list of potential candidates if they can not land the pair of SMU and UH (which does not look likely). The prime objectives for MWC expansion is media markets to increase revenues and recruiting. With UNT the MWC will gain access into the Top 5 Metroplex market. Combine this with the large market of San Antiono, South Texas and Hill Country with UTSA and revues look very good. The MWC Com. recently made a comment that expansion would not dilute per team pay outs. The only expansion that will grow per team payouts is entry into Texas. El Paso is a small media market and UTEP wishes to stay in Texas which only improves the stakes of UNT and UTSA. Who knows, but if the MWC continues to be the strongest non AQ conference maybe UTEP, TSU, LaTech and Utah State could join for a 16 team league. BTW, you guys needs a baseball team. Texas is a stronger collegiate BB state than FB state these days and you guys would be part of the action with the Metroplex as your recruiting backyard. Just look at what DBU has accomplished!
