American beer is not beer and light beer is not anything. I will go Becks, bratwurst and 5-7 though.

Student athletes have best GPA in more than 10 years

Great reminder of priorities. The quality of these students will assure athletic success as well as time goes by. Doing things the right way does, indeed, make patience a bit easier. -

Hold the wedding. WE need to do something like this.

Who can tell? Its a "Riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma". (Churchill on Stalin.) The frustrating thing is that we now have to wait over four months before we have any idea who will emerge as our quarterback. I hate this life.

The 'A' Train. Promote this thing. Educate people on how to use it and how to transfer from DART. Create schedules that coordinate with UNT events. Advertise in Krum, Aubrey etc., but remember that there is more to Dallas than NORTH Dallas. If we recruit inner city schools, we should seek out fans from those neighborhoods as well and show them how to get here. We are all aware of SMU's poor (and inflated) attendance figures. They reflect a very limited fan base mostly in the Park Cities. They do not attract fans from all over Dallas. ( Thats a long way from the house that Doak built .) We SHOULD attract fans from all over Dallas, but it requires some effort and expense. It will pay off in the long run. Again, remember that 1-35 is no fun, and for the first time in our automobile history more young people think of the automobile as a burden rather than a convenience. We have the means to make this work. We need the will.

Encouraging spring helps UNT look ahead to football

There was nothing wrong with our culture in the late 60's with Joe Greene etc. I liked our culture in the late 50's under Odus Mitchell, Jack Sisco's culture in the 30's was just fine. I would have to do some research to assess our culture before that, but a positive culture follows winning just as sure as the turning of this earth. -

Gee, I was just asking. But they are still UGLY no matter how many dollar signs they represent. We need another route to the campus.- 37 replies

Exciting UNT Facility Master Plan Feb. 2013 Update
ragpicker replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
For years I have heard students who take a college visit to UNT tell me how they are turned off by the first impression of the campus. Their comments are usually along the lines of "All I remember are a bunch of ugly old stores". I always tell them to look around, but first impressions are first impressions. Sack and Save really must go. I have always wondered why so many past administrations have failed to have that eyesore removed through imminent domain or by whatever means possible.- 37 replies

New Big East to be named American Athletic Conference
ragpicker replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Bland, predictable, uninspiring and bordering on the inane. -
I love coach Dan McCarney, but...

Our lack of recruiting success, especially following the opening of Apogee, is baffling to me. TD really was a more successful recruiter with much less to offer in the way of facilities. -
I promote and make people aware of the real Scrappy. {The feisty one from the fifties and sixties). When he returns, our fortunes will change.

C-USA Makes Three Date Changes on 2013 Football Schedule

I was looking forward to that Halloween game. Of course, so much of what I look forward to in UNT athletics seems to turn to dust - even the smallest things. Our luck just has to change eventually. -
Perhaps, but hardly delectable.

I really miss the Juicy Pig.

Recapping the old/new Big East in terms of North Texas
ragpicker replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree, Retso. If Rice, UTEP etc. speak sayonara (sp?) we are in a heap of trouble. Incidentally, Clayty Williams stole that quote from Dorothy Parker, although he probably didn't know it. If he had quoted her he would have saved himself some grief. -

Indeed, thinking back, if we had had a ghost of a chance of staying in D1 back then, it probably disappeared with the inexplicable and disastrous hiring of the coach who followed Jerry Moore and preceded Corky Nelson. His name mercifully escapes me. -
My sentiments exactly. Indeed, the old song from "Hee Haw" about if it wern't for bad new, I would have no luck at all. has never been very funny to me as a Mean Green fan. It is too literal. It is too true.

HYPOCRISY, but I agree.

But the more I think about it you may be right, GrandGreen. Nothing probably could have saved us from 1AA. Its a relief in a way to realize that there was probably nothing we could have done to stave off the inevitable. Thanks for the insight. -
You are so right, Drek. Backward, backward, oh time in your flight,(or something like that).
