It was interesting to hear that Vito said "think" and not "from what I'm hearing." Vito said at the very end of the interview on who he "thinks" will be the HC will be someone with ties to the DFW, Offensive minded coach, younger guy with some HC experience or lots of skins on the wall.... I really don't think Vito has heard anything, its all what he thinks, well, thats because he said it. I guess you can say that the type of coach they're looking for is Major or Riley? I don't know of a younger HC that meats that criteria....

WTF???? He's the OC at OU... Let me repeat, he's the OC at OU.. Why the F would a 32 year old OC at OU come to UNT to be the OC? I can't anymore.. I really cant... "put a legitimate older trusted winner face on the program" Please amuse me... Give me some names that you want and that you realistically think we have a shot at.

I've only hear Becks name for bigger jobs, his resume is much better than most of the guys we're talking about. I agree, he's exactly what you want from the resume aspect but I dont see us getting him. Not saying it will happen but I also think its a super long shot.

And I want Nick Saban to come coach at UNT... UNT isn't in a position to for that kind of head coach. Art Briles was the head coach at UH, a program that had one losing season in 5 years during his tenure. We have one winning season in 11 years. The head coach you're trying to get is Justin Fuente from Memphis and guess what.. He's not coming here. You need to reword your title and start comparing apples to apple and lets compare 2015 UNT to 2012 Memphis. Lets go back to 2012, Memphis wasn't good, they were the laughing stock of CUSA with very little football history. UNT has a better record overall but I'm using post season play because thats what we play for. I think we can agree that this is a good comparison? Memphis hired Justin Fuente, a 35 year old Co-OC from TCU who was under Patterson for 5 years and before that he was at an FCS school for 5 years. Hey, you know all about TCU's history so theres no need to talk about Justin Fuente's resume... If others would like I would happily do it. Memphis wasn't in a position to hire an "experienced leader with hot shots under him" Guys you're talking about at that time are like Rich Rod from Arizona or Freeze from Ole Miss. They did the realistic thing and hired a young up-incoming OC to lead them. UNT needs to do the exact same thing Memphis did and hire that same kind of coach. There are plenty of names out there, we just have to find one that will lead us to the promise land.

I pull some stats from the last 10 years and see what their coaching record is for new head coaches.

You cant go wrong with Riley.. All of these OC's we're mentioning are all great canidates. He knows CUSA and what it takes to win in the conference.

Years? It took Fuente 2 years to bring Memphis to where they are today and only 2 years for Briles to bring Baylor to their first bowl game since the mid 90's. I dont see how it would take more than 2 years to bring UNT back to a bowl game. If it does, well, we hired the wrong coach, again.

Frank Wilson, LSU running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Why he could be a head coach: He's a tremendous recruiter and dynamic personality who has coached a steady stream of great running backs at LSU. Where he fits: Might be a longshot for a Power Five job, but any Conference USA school that needs to recruit the Southeast should take a long look. If RV is somehow able to pull a rabbit out of his hat like Johnny Jones, his only good hire at UNT (revenue sports). We all get that his last hires havent been good and he should be fired, but I just dont see that happening any time soon. I dont remember Dan McCarney's name coming out until very late in the process, when I heard it I wasnt too impressed but I bought in. I think theres more talent available right now than back then, espcially with the money that we are willing to pay. If he's able to get a guy like Briles or Applewhite, I think we will be very happy with the results.

Out of the 3, Briles is the only one that makes sense. Novell- he makes 900k as an OC, I think bigger money will come from schools like USC and SC Withers- I see him staying in the east coach, not coming to the south. Briles- Well, we all know my stance on him.

FCS players are playing because they want to play and this is their only opportunity. Most of them are not trying to make it to the next level and they understand that but some are and the draft proves it. Other maybe trying to transfer to a FBS school and they didn't want to go the JUCO route. They need to find a coach that will get them there quickly, not 4-5 years down the road. Lets compare apple to apples, not apples to oranges. Since you know more about contract negotiating and think that UNT is going to hire a coach on a 4 year or less deal.. Well, I'll give you +175 odds.

I agree, I think it needs to go up to $1.5, but thats with incentives, not his base. I see the base being anywhere from 1-1.25.

I don't think @bengooding ever said that. More as in he'll ask his dad for help in regards to what kind of coach he should hire. Using his dad as a mentor.

I can understand that. I don't think he'll be a micromanager like Mac. I think, I could be wrong but a younger HC like Briles would hire an experienced DC and let him do his job. Brides would be focusing on the Offense and other HC duties. What kind of DC wouldn't want that type of freedom? Here's the difference-- Dodge didn't bring in the right staff. I'm just saying, I don't think any current OC would bring in a HS staff. "Point is, this hire increases donor levels and ticket sales. It creates excitement and UNT needs something to be excited about." Any new HC should do all of the things Ben listed, thats happens everywhere, not just at UNT. Guess what, all of these things happened when Mac was hired too.

Ive said multiple times, that I'm sure its happened before but its not the market rate. I've also said multiple times that I think we need to clean house, from top to bottom, that includes RV. It doesn't matter if you make 187k or 750k. Berry's been at ULM for a number of years and he's had 2 winning seasons and is currently 1-7 and 0-4 in conference. I guess you don't read the names, I said multiple times that I don't think Chico should be the HC, I think we need a fresh start. You even commented on one of my post, about this topic. People need to stop comparing us other Sun Belt team, we need to start comparing ourselves to other bigger name programs, like schools the AAC. I get the sense that a majority of fans only watch UNT football but if you're going to start commenting about other schools and programs at least do some damn research before you start typing some non sense.

The question was in the past 3 years, but hey, we can go with this. However, there are going to be outliers, I never said that it wasn't possible. Lets say they're another 2 other coaches that signed a 4 year deal (benefit of the doubt). Theres about 13 new head coaches a year (low balling it). Thats less that 5% of the hires, do we want to be where we were or not.. You don't sound like you're wanting this program to grow...

Im talking about football not basketball or woman's basketball. My guess is less than 10% signed less than 5 years and less than 5% signed less than 4 years 0% less than 3 years. Again, this is FBS College coaches only.

Yes, the market says that the HC gets a min 5 year contract. If I'm wrong, please find how many head coaches in the last 3 years signed less than a 5 year deal.

Everyone says 32 isn't experienced, but he's the son of a coach. That itself is experience that not a lot of coaches have. Usually coaches sons are damn good coaches/players. They understand a game a different level. Saying he's has everything at his finger tips and he just relies on his dad? Yes, his dad hired him in 2008 but is that a bad thing? Mike Zimmer, HC of the Minnesota Vikings hired his son as a LB coach for the Vikings, he's in his 30's. Again, thats the NFL, not college football. Before Art was hired, the last time Baylor went to a bowl game was 1994, I believe UNT beat Baylor or lost a close game to them in the early 2000's? Hate to break it to you but Baylor wasn't good. He was able to be apart of a coaching staff that started with nothing, again, they were the laughing stock of the Big 12 when Briles was hired into a top 5 team. Isn't that the type of experience we're looking for? A coach thats seen a program go from the bottom to the top. Briles should be one of our top targets and if you can't look past his age, well, you have more issues to worry about. You have questions about his recruiting? Again, he started with nothing and helped bring them to where they're at today. Of course ones going to say that a majority of it should be attributed to his dad but lets think about this again. Because he was just a young position coach, he did a majority of the recruiting. He was able to find the players his dad wanted and watch/learn/teach the tools to become a great players. To me, thats the kind of experience we're looking for.

Patterson makes 3.5 mill while his coordinators make 300k.. That's the norm in college football. Why would your HC make only 20% more than the coordinators?

Chico is a class act and its a shame that he never got the opportunity to lead this program for an entire year. I don't think the boosters and alum would get too upset if Chico was named the head coach but I personally think a fresh start is the best solution to fix our problems.
