  1. that was a fun game, but i think McNutty got the loudest cheers that game when he scored the TD (I was so happy we scored first). Although i think you could argue the stadium got louder in later years, it was a hyped up day that game. Was Sumlin the coach for the Coogs that year?
  2. correct, no one in FBS did.
  3. isn't Butch Davis gone from FIU?
  4. If (in your scenario, we go on a 6 game win streak to end the season (with wins against an above .500 UTEP, a potentially ranked UTSA and a bowl win), then Littrell would have an overall record of 38-37 with UNT and a 26-21 conference record. Additionally, he has brought in some of our best recruiting classes (if you believe in rankings), and a 6 game win streak would show he has developed the young talent currently on the roster. This is a far fetched scenario...let's just start there... ...but if it happened, most people on this board would be ecstatic with where we stand and would be itching for the 2022 season.
  5. Sorry to keep beating a dead horse here, but Littrell took over a joke of a program. Over the previous ten seasons, UNT had gone 34-87 and he brought it to respectability (34-37 under Littrell). Also, I picked ten seasons because it's a nice round number, I didn't include the 2-9 season from 2005.
  6. Sorry, to clarify, my point was that UNT's next coach (Fuente or otherwise), will have a salary of $1.8MM or higher.
  7. correct on the first paragraph, except that UNT had been historically bad for the 10 years prior to Littrell, not just one bad game. I have no idea if Fuente would be good here or not, my comments were solely about Littrell. However, I'm sure you would find a lot of the same sentiments on VaTech boards as we had when McCarney was here ("he can't recruit", "he only had success with Beamer's players"). I don't think he's in the same realm as McCarney, but i bet the Hokies do. I'd bet there's probably a 60/40 shot he can recreate what Seth has done here, but to assume that he is going to deliver 10 win seasons with an undoubtedly bigger contract than Littrell's would be a big leap. A lot of things have to happen to have that level of sustainable success, especially at the G5 level. I'd probably put that at a 20/80 shot. I guess the question we all weigh is, what do we expect from our coach, and what dollar amount do we put on that?
  8. Who knows, but you are right, a program that had not had a losing season since 1992 is now faced with Fuente delivering potentially three in four years. This despite the fact that he is getting paid roughly 2.5 times what Seth is. Sounds exactly the same as our situation. I can't believe Seth came in and screwed up all the momentum we had built up under Dickey/Dodge/McCarney. He has just run this program into the ground.
  9. like i said, like it or not, the previous coaches always set the expectations. and while i agree that we are overpaying, there's no getting that horse back in the barn, moving forward we will be paying more for a new coach.
  10. side note, i just looked at the two deep for UTEP, do we seriously only have 7 seniors on the two deep leaving after this year?
  11. the previous 5 years definitely played into my thoughts, and with that is factored in his overall performance. the man's record stands at 34-37 and like it or not, the barometer is always set by what has come before. if he wins two out of the 3 remaining games, he will be at 36-38, with a solid team returning next year. This is not a case of a head coach simply not wanting to recruit (McCarney, who's last two years in Denton unraveled unbelievably fast), a coach who is couldn't win a game unless he was playing Western Kentucky( It took Dodge 43 games to get to 37 losses, which still baffles me) or a coach who has positioned himself and his team against the school/university (Dickey, who went 5-18 with his hijinx against UNT). This is also not a team where we think we are positioned to be world beaters next year and just need a change in voice to get us there, this can be a good team(8-9 wins), but i don't think we could go undefeated, unless there is a miracle of some kind. I know we aren't going to agree on this issue, but I like Seth and I hope he continues to improve our program, I still think he is trying.
  12. i don't understand this logic, of the coaches that have been hired, how many of them are passing up their current jobs for UNT? Additionally, there are not a finite # of coaches that can lead our program, there are a lot of guys that could come in and do a good job. I know everybody hates this opinion, but i'm tired of the revolving door of coaches around here. I don't mind sticking with Seth one more year to see if he has anything. I think the transfer portal is going to play out pretty frequently every year, regardless of who the coach is. I am firmly in the camp that if Seth can win two more games this year, then he gets next year. Most people on this board had us going 5-7 best case scenario, so i don't see how this should have changed their opinion. If he can't get us a real QB by next year, then i am fine to let him go. If we had competent QB play this year, we would be 6-3 right now, most likely
  13. this is a great video. where are we at UNT media dept?
  14. serious question, who has better throwing QB's, the service academies that run the triple option, or UNT?
  15. No no no. He's not a good coach and I don't know if he's ever recruited in his life.
  16. Went to the board, forgot how ugly it is, didn't stick around to read anything
  17. I think I said this last year after we played HBU, but Zappe was definitely a D1 QB and a potential NFL player, the fact that WKU got him was a steal.
  18. Can we talk for a minute about UAB... they shut their football program down for two years and seemed like they were about to undergo a major shrinking of their AD. Then they re-instate their program, which has gone 39-19 since then, with 2 CUSA championships and a 3rd CUSA title game (They had never been champs before and had gone 67-110 over the previous 15 years, with only three winning seasons). Now les than five years after starting up again, they are moving up in conference! Is Bill Clark a genius?
  19. so the biggest effect that a coaching change has is related to recruiting, and honestly i don't know enough about the early signing period to understand how a coaching change could influence that (a little help here @BillySee58?) but in terms of 'available coaches' there are probably 100 guys in the coaching universe that could lead North Texas to success over the next few years, 80 of them probably aren't going to consider North Texas, and 15 of the remaining probably will be overlooked. hell for all we know, Littrell may be one of those 20. All i'm trying to say is that there is no shortage of good coaches out there, all of these things are just a matter of research and luck.
  20. and i know it doesn't matter now, but we should have beaten Ohio the week before and been sitting at 3-0 heading into Georgia, we got down early to the Bobcats as well. and don't even get me started about the refs in the Superdome
  21. yeah, if you are suggesting we go after Graham, I'd rather pursue someone that would want to be at North Texas longer than 10 games.
  22. the Laramie Lee game... that dude wrecked people left and right all day! and it's one of the few times you could visibly see an opponents confidence just start to wane throughout the game... I think they were ready to get on the bus and head back home at the start of the 4th qtr.
  23. Combine that with winning the World series by beating the Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers in a single postseason to do it... that meant that it was going to be that much worse of a crime!
