The BIG empty space in the middle of the Waranch Tennis Complex is where they're supposed to build a large championship center court surrounded by a bowl of seats to use during tournaments, conference championships, UIL tournaments/championships, NCAA Regionals or more (pro tennis events). In Texas, only Rice has anything else close to a center court. They have one championship court that has seating on three sides with a big scoreboard.

And to think that just back in 2008, Arkansas State beat TAMU 18-14 at Kyle Field in their season opener. The Aggies were 7-5 the year before and lost to Penn State in the Alamo Bowl. Arky State was 5-7 the year before (including whipping us in Jonesboro). We lost to Arky State 33-28 at Fouts in the last game of the 2008 season.

If they think the 3rd largest university in Texas and the 25th largest university in THE NATION is a medium sized school, I'd hate to see their idea of a large school.

The hotels don't book up because when anybody has a conference in DFW it's in Grapevine/Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington/Addison, and Denton is too far to drive. The Mayborn Conference every summer, which isn't a particularly large conference, has to be held in Grapevine because there is NOWHERE in Denton that has the meeting space to host a conference/convention where you have break-out sessions and large group meetings. The Gateway Center is nice, but it is not a conference/convention center. Think about this for a sec too: Mac has the team stay at the Marriott across from Texas Motor Speedway because A: it's away from the distractions of campus and B: because it has the conference space needed for all the team meetings before games. Where in Denton, right now, has that kind of space for the visiting team to stay, and to keep the money they're spending, in Denton?

As far as I know, other than the 3 point line, the basketball floor hasn't been repainted or refinished since before the 2005(?) season, when we changed from the dark forest green to the current SOW green, baseline font and center court logo. If you get a chance after the next home game to go down onto the court, look at where the letters are on the baseline. You can see where the old paint scheme was just painted over. I noticed when I took this portrait of coach Peterson that the center of the court around the North Texas logo is a different color from the rest of the court. http://www.dentonrc.com/incoming/20121112-drc_110812_mikepeterson1.jpg.ece When we changed fonts and the center court logo, the center was sanded down and repainted, but the rest of the clear stain on the court is a lot yellower because the finish is much, much older. Seems to me that if we can get a few million bucks to get a center hung video board and new LED tables, we could get somebody to donate the money to refinish the floor and get to name it, like when Mattress Mac got to name the practice field. I mean "Bill Blakeley Court at The Super Pit" sounds pretty good to me. (not advocating naming it after Blakeley, just spitballing ideas)

I thought that part of Scotty going to La Tech was because he would have a chance to play baseball there as well as football, something we can't offer him (or anybody else).
