  1. To be honest, TCU also had a significant Ace in the Hole that coincided with their rise in football success. Mike Moncrief was mayor of Panther City from 2003-2011 and was A HUGE boost for TCU's overall visibility. When the mayor isn't even an alum (he went to Tarleton) but is the main cheerleader for Go Purple days, yeah it'll help get a lot of people behind the program. http://fortworthtexas.gov/codecompliance/info/default.aspx?id=114780 Hell, the new mayor isn't an alum either (Betsy Price went to UT-A) but is continuing the program. Before the current mayor, we had two mayors IN A ROW (Euline Brock, Perry McNeil) who were former UNT professors. Last fall Lil Ol' TWU, on the other side of Denton, had an enrollment of over 15,000 students. That's a lot of people the City of Denton doesn't want to piss off by getting completely behind UNT. T-Dub softball made it to the DII softball Championship Tournament last season and the City of Dentonn didn't do too much because they didn't want to piss the UNT folks off.
  2. G-Bat was deeply involved in hiring a coach....... Shanice
  3. I love Cool Beans. Does Mike still work as a bartender there? I took a really cool portrait of him with a giant stack of glasses at the end of a bust night once for a class.
  4. Gosselin was one of the parade of guests in the booth with George and Hank during the third quarter.
  5. Just a note, ETSN.fm staff writer Gabe Brooks, in addition to being a really super awesome human being, is an NT alum and was an NT Daily sports editor during the bowl era.
  6. If we're gonna do it, let's do it right. The obvious answer is the inflatable giant constipated linebacker that poops out the team...
  7. If by "one of our guys" you mean Mac and Skladany, then yes, oh hells yes they did. I've seen Mac get mad at players on the sideline before, but I've NEVER seen him get as red-face, spitting as he yells mad as he did after that blocked kick got called back. For the record, I still haven't seen/heard what exactly he did that got called for a penalty. I was watching the ball get run back for the TD and if they replayed it in the stadium I missed it.
  8. Sorry, but I don't want a logo with SMU's school colors on OUR field... Make it black, white and green. But no red, white and blue. Everybody else gets to do a custom school color logo: why should we settle? Texas A&M gets a maroon and white SEC logo... West Virginia gets a blue and yellow BIG 12 logo... UNC gets a Carolina Blue ACC logo... Wyoming gets a brown and yellow Mountain West logo... Texas FRIGGIN State - San Macros gets a damn burgundy and gold WAC logo... Idaho gets potato colored WAC logos in the freakin Kibbie Dome... Arizona gets red white and blue PAC 12 logos... Houston got red and white C-USA logos... Tulsa gets blue and gold C-USA logos... Do I need to go on?
  9. .............. I'm stuck in the black hole part of Denton that has Grande as the cable company. FML
  10. I miss hanging out with you dude. Especially on Bourbon Street........
  11. For a split second I thought you meant to the media dining room in Apogee and got super pumped for Saturday. Now I'm all sad.
  12. Found this from the DRC story of the Ryan game last Friday... Wearing a green UNT wristband during the game.
  13. He was working with the Denton Ryan boy's bball team for a while last season. I think he might have been student teaching at Ryan, I dunno.
  14. I can think of a MUCH better way to do a flag helmet than the Rorschach test of a paint scheme Maryland uses.... Sorry about the sloppy 4 a.m., after a Guinness Photoshop job...
  15. From the album: junk

What? Who says only Maryland can have a flag helmet?

  17. Before all that, I think we need to get the Chamber of Commerce or whoever it was to stop promoting Denton as a good place for Sooners to stay during Texas/OU weekend when WE have a HOME GAME that weekend. And the city would never do this on their own because they don't want to show favoritism towards either UNT or TWU. (don't want to piss off TWU)
  18. It wasn't just the big injuries (Tune-hip, Thompson-leg, Dodge-arm). It was all the small stuff happening week in and week out that knocked the starters out of commission for several weeks on end. I still blame badly designed Under Armor cleats. Abnormal numbers of unusual knee, foot and lower leg injuries, not just in games but in practices as well. That's not bad conditioning, that's a bad shoe. Yeah they looked cool and had the SOW on the bottom but I couldn't help but noticed that hardly anyone else used Under Armor cleats then. Put this year's dudes, with all their time under Frank Wintrich, in those shoes, and I'll betcha they suffer from the same injuries.
  19. Alumni Pavillion post game show combined with Armadillo Ale Works latest brew tasting...
  20. 1. Our campus is really pretty to begin with. Go UNT. 2. One day our children may live in Sack-N-Save Hall or IHOP Hall. 3. All that beautification but they don't demolish College Inn???? 4. I LOVE that one of our brick colors is called Burnt Pumpkin by ACME Brick.
  21. Wait so someone fixed it up again? There goes my idea for having the guys from Fast and Loud take a swing at it.....
  22. Well before we go talking about skywriting and crap like that, can we first talk about why there is a big ass billboard on the back of the Fouts Field press box that tells drivers on I-35 to go enjoy a game at "Mean Green Stadium"....
