UAB Boosters Allege Trustees Could End Football Program
TheWestie replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
This got me curious and I looked up some other boards. University of Houston system: 5 of 9 board members are alums, including the Chairman. The others went to Denver, West Point (with a UH law degree) and TCU. Texas State System: 5 of the 9 are alums of TxSt System schools. 2 from Texas State, 2 from Lamar and 1 from Sam Houston. The others are from Prairie View A&M (the Chairwoman), Tulane, UTA and Arizona. UT System: 7 out of 9 are UT alums. The Chairman of the UT System is a Baylor alum, and another is an Aggie with a UH law degree. There are no UT regents (as of right now) that are alums of any of the UT satellite schools. TAMU System: 6 of 9 are ATM alums, including the Chairman. The others are from UH (with an Aggie MBA) ,UT (with a Harvard Law degree) and Texas Tech. Texas Tech System: 8 of 9 are Tech alums. The Chairman however is an Angelo State alum. Angelo State is part of the Tech System.- 75 replies

UAB Boosters Allege Trustees Could End Football Program
TheWestie replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
UAB has it bad. The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has 17 members and only two of them did their undergrad at UAB. One of whom is also a former UAB track athlete. One other board member got a medical degree from UAB med school and another, the State Superintendent of Education who went to Auburn but got a masters at UAB. Aside from the one dude who went to Tuskegee (but with a Bama law school degree), the rest are all Crimson Tide all the time. Right now the majority (5 out of 9) of the UNT BOR are alums, including the Chairman, but not too long ago that was a much different story.- 75 replies

True story: When my mom and I drove up from Houston for my freshman orientation, we saw the tip of the Courthouse on the Square from I-35E and headed towards it thinking it was the Hurley tower. We then got even more frustrated learning that University Dr is nowhere near UNT. -
UNT breaks ground on new residence hall construction

F. There goes my "State & Service vehicle" parking spot behind the Gateway Center for basketball. It was nice, I could just roll my 55 lbs of camera gear right down to the south tunnel. -

'15 OL Dave Bolisomi (Denton Ryan)
TheWestie replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'd rather see Y'Barbo go in as a fullback during garbage time. THAT'D BE FUN. Like a big green snow plow wearing Nikes heading towards the end zone. -

Hiring ex-Texas coach Mack Brown should be a ‘no-brainer’ for SMU
TheWestie replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
SMU can lock Dallas down all they want. That leaves UNT with Denton, Argyle, Coppell, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen, Little Elm, The Colony, Grapevine, Irving, Euless, Haltom City, Hebron, Justin, Prosper, Sanger, Celina, Southlake, Carrollton, Garland, Richardson, Arlington, Cedar Hill, Colleyville, Azle, NRH, Saginaw, Mansfield, Hurst, Keller, Grand Prairie, Duncanville, DeSoto, Highland Park, Wylie, Mesquite, Lancaster, Sachse, Rowlett, Rockwall, Sulphur Springs, Ennis, Waxahachie, Midlothian, Cleburne, Burleson, Decatur, Wichita Falls, Weatherford, Aledo, Humble, Kingwood, whatever part of Houston where Harry grew up... -
Back when G-Bat had first been hired as President, and she was doing her squeezing disconnected alums for money tour, I went to the one in Houston to cover it for the NT Daily. I got to meet Charles Onstead, the guy who donated all the money to renovate the library mall. The fountain is named after his wife. He had started as a student right before WW II and after serving he returned to school to finish his degree. Anyway, he was telling the reporter and I about what it was like living in Chilton Hall back in the late 40s, working the switchboard as an operator at the front desk. He told us that his first apartment off campus was at the Alton House apartments on W Hickory. I had no idea they were that old. And does anyone know what the deal with the two houses that used to be in the middle of campus on Mulberry St. right across from where the Environmental Science building now stands? They were a pair of two of three story houses that looked run down as hell and were bulldozed sometime between 2003 and 2005 I think... In the grove of trees across from College Inn. I know there was nobody living there when I was a freshman in 2003.

Down at the UT game in Austin I saw about 1 grey or white UT shirt for every 3 or 4 orange ones. Yes everyone was wearing UT logo crap, but it ran the gamut as far as colors. Same thing last time I was at LSU. Big mix or purple and yellow. I don't care how many shades of green are in the stands as long as they're wearing it. We just need to get the jackwagons in UT gear and that A-hole in the Yankees jersey to change.

Wow, way to go NT Daily. Write a story about Sack N Save and leave out the part about how the I-35 expansion is gonna leave it with only a few dozen parking spots. This stuff is starting to erk me. Sack N Save is F'd no matter what but it's not because of UNT. The 35 expansion and the total rebuilding of the North Texas Blvd bridge and intersection is wiping out most of the area. The new TxDOT I-35E Right of Way is going to go smack dab in the middle of the Sack N Save parking lot, with the actual feeder road right over the southern 1/4 of the existing parking lot. THAT is happening REGARDLESS of the university trying to acquire the rest of the property. Counting spots on Google Maps, Sack N Save currently has about 179 spots including Handicapped spaces. Judging by the TXDOT map, they'll be left with just over 50. For a full service grocery store. Natural Grocers on University Dr. has right at 50 spots. The Cupboard on Elm St. has a little over 60. Brookshires has over 180 spaces. Kroger on University has over 170. The giant Kroger on Loop 288 has around 250. And lets not forget that that property has been included in the UNT Master Plan for the last decade. When Norvie was still around, they were talking about building UNT building on top of Sack N Save and Panchos. And in the 2013 Master Plan with all the updates, which we all poured over looking for baseball stuff, it's all in there too. The people treating this situation like big bad UNT snuck up behind poor little Sack N Save and are trying to strong arm them into closing have had their eyes closed and their fingers in their ears for the last decade. And yes according to the Master Plan proposed buildings map, my beloved Sub Hub and cheap-ass Chinese food on Ave C is gonna go away too. Which makes me sad.

So here's what we look like... Oh and just for fun... A GOOD day at Fouts... A BAD day at Fouts... We've come a long way since the last days of the Bowl Era. Despite the Dodge debacle years, fans actually got more in touch and now with Apogee and D Mac we're at an all time high. If we just keep at it we'll get there.

Just dug through the Nike web site and Eastbay.com. It's not a current Nike shirt, so who knows. It could be years old for all we know. Damn.

"Remember We Were Once In The SWC Bowl." Best thing I've ever read.

They missed the best ever sign, which was from the SMU game.
