  1. Australia, China, Canada, Britain, Belgium, Japan and last weekend.
  2. I was in band in high school and at our end-of-year concert my senior year, just a few weeks before graduation, they had all the seniors come out and stand at the front of the stage and the band director talked about each of us and what we'd done and what our plans were for the future. He got everyone's stuff bang on perfect except for me. He said I was going to North Texas State. This was 2003. And that moment, on that stage in front of my parents and everyone, was the first time I'd ever even heard the name. I'd never known it as anything other than UNT. (Full disclosure, I didn't know squat about UNT before I became a student. I knew they had a badass music program and that they were one of two photojournalism programs in the state, besides UT. I applied and got accept sight unseen. First time I ever came to Denton let alone the campus was for freshman orientation. And incidentally, that first moment I drove up Ave C through the center of campus, I knew I had made the right decision and that this place was gonna be special for me). For someone of Mack Brown's age, for whom during most of his life we were NTSU, I get it. Especially if you have no ties to the school or anyone we play. It was NTSU when you were growing up or when you were in college. Whatever. But for anyone under 54, we've been UNT the majority of your life. 27 years as UNT. If you were born in the 1970s or later, you have no excuse. Nothing guts me more than a 40-something or younger TV commenter who calls us North Texas State.
  3. Looking at this on the Twitter... It looks like they just have the lights off over the stands.
  4. This is why we were pretty successful in recruiting East Texas and the Houston area for so long.
  5. I'll give my opinion once the first game comes around.
  6. Hey YOU were the one sitting behind him at the last game.
  7. Harry, Mattress Mack, Diet Coke Boy, Patrick Cobbs, Obi Wan Kenobi-style ghost of Norval Pohl, Cerebus, Brint Ryan, the current editor of the NT Daily, Ernie K, Dr Phil, Johnny Quinn, the whole staff from Sub Hub, Jub Jub, Hayden Fry and Jason Lee, because why not.
  8. Fort Worth turning purple was because of Mike Moncrief pushing for that as mayor. It wasn't some organic thing. And he isn't even a TCU alum. We actually have a UNT alum as mayor in Denton right now. Yet we got TWU banners all over the Square during UNT Homecoming week. But we are not Fort Worth. Funky Town can go full purple because the other university in town, Texas Wesleyan is so tiny compared to TCU. TCU is about 10,000 students and Wesleyan is about 3,300. UNT is over 37,000 students now and Texas Woman's is almost 13,000. That's a lot more people to piss off.
  9. The DRC got a new Managing Editor last June. He is a UNT alum who came to the paper after years of being a writer and editor at the DMN. He pays attention. And currently about half the newsroom reporters and one photographer are North Texas alums.
  10. From what I remember from the DRC stories about it, they're not spiffing it up really, just renovating it so it will work as an office building for a few years. Once the construction for I-35E is all done they're gonna tear it down and build better stuff. If you find the Masterplan layout maps they show a bunch of classroom and dorm buildings all over there, including on the other side of Ave C where Pancho's and Rockin Rodeo are.
  11. Bad mugshot photo. He was at a Guyer game earlier this season to watch Shawn Robinson and he doesn't look like that. That photo makes him look like Conan O'Brien on roids.
  12. Ricky V had the benefit of having pretty much the first UNT president in history who actually gave two shits about athletics when he started to get the ball rolling with expanding facilities. And it has all been concurrent with an overall expansion and renovation of the campus to fit our exponentially growing student population and space needs. More buildings and facilities have been built on campus since 2000 than were built in the preceding 20 or 30 years. Let's list off facilities upgrades/expansions that happened either during Norval Pohl's time as president or that got started under him: Athletic Center - 2005 Chemistry Building - 2004 Discovery Park - 2004 Gateway Center - 2001 Mean Green Village - 2005 Pohl Student Recreation Center - 2003 Sorority Row - 2004 Sullivant Public Safety Center - 2001 Traditions Hall - 2003 Victory Hall - 2004 Warranch Tennis Complex - 2005
  13. I had to take photos once at a D III softball game that ended 27-0 in the 2nd inning. It was like watching Mike Tyson fight a blind baby in a wheelchair. Tonight was worse.
  14. So... time to dust off those old "Lock the Gate" t-shirts and cut em in half to make a crop top?
  15. Naa, the worst part about tonight was that it got me thinking "Oh well, when does basketball season start?" and now I'm out of Jägermeister.
  16. Judging by the pained look on Ricky V's face and the way Smatresk interacted with him on the field right before the check ceremony at halftime, I'd say yeah he's scared shitless. Smatresk has been on a roll lately of of telling people get results and be part of the solution or go pound sand. Departments across the university are in a whirlwind of change, and it's change that's finally dismantling the bullshit apathy and do-nothingness that's plagued this school for decades. Allowing Villareal to sit tight doesn't jive with everything else the man has done so far as president.
  17. Can I add a #2 pick? First home game of my freshman year. Top of the student section at Fouts, September 6, 2003 as the Sun set over Denton and Booger ran that fumble back for a touchdown against Baylor.
  18. Rush the field and carry the goalposts to the Hurley. Because it'd mean we weren't gonna go winless.
