  1. Not the first time I'd taken that photo.
  2. I'm here covering Krum. This gon' be fun. I'll be wearing my green NORTH TEXAS beanie while I roam the sidelines.
  3. And Stoops played, then coached, at Iowa. So Littrell comes from the Hayden Fry coaching tree.
  4. Somebody please ask Fake John Walsh about this on twitter.
  5. He's at BYU now and we ain't got the $$$$ to bring him back: But... he brought this guy with him to Brigham Young and we can afford him. And if he does exactly the same stuff Wintrich did while he was here, we can't afford NOT to have him. http://byucougars.com/staff/athletics/ryan-boutwell
  6. I love my Mean Green!!! (quietly puts back on Kentucky Basketball final four t-shirt...)
  7. The only place that'd pull him away from Guyer is Oklahoma State. Once JW graduates...
  8. B.S. There were 40k Mean Green fans at the Heart of Dallas Bowl because the university as a whole marketed the hell out of the game. Hell even the alumni association were marketing the game to get people out there. And we only got 40K because the game was in Dallas and convenient for our apathetic fan base. Winning will solidify the fandom of current students and recent grad who live close by. But that's not what we need to worry about. We need to worry about the tens of thousands of alums who graduated between 1978 and 1998. There are three types of Mean Green fans that I can identify. They were students during the Missouri Valley Conference days when we were pretty damn good (and this includes the Mean Joe Greene era, students during the Hayden Fry years of the Flying Worm, and students during the last 15 years, the Dickey years until now. Notice a gap? Nobody but @FirefightnRicknRick talks about their love for the 1-AA years. (Ok there are a more than a few of y'all on here but you know what Im talking about). This university had a good 20 year stretch where football really WAS marginalized and was a complete afterthought in the grand scheme of things. These alums are at the age where their children are starting to enter college or will soon be and are going to be looking back at UNT for the first time in years. These are people we need to reach and be cheerleaders to. Can we reach every one of them and bring them back to the nest? No of course not, but every one that we can bring in is another butt in a seat at Apogee and dollar for the Mean Green Club that didn't exist before. And one less alum who will be a UT or TCU t-shirt fan. Baylor and TCU were the whipping boys of the Southwest Conference for the better part of 50 years. Their recent surge in wins has happened concurrently with massive outreach to alums by their athletic departments and alumni associations, using a winning football team as a convenient reason to get people back on campus and reconnect with the school. That is where we have failed. Mac was out and about around town all the time acting as the #1 advocate of the program because he understood the first place to start was to get any and everyone in Denton who was in anyway connected to the school to get out to the games. Then you can work on the other 237,000 alumni in DFW.
  9. Dude, you're comparing a game story to a blog post. Vito sat through every second of every down of every game of Dodgeball without killing himself. Be glad to have him.
  10. I remember that guy when I arrived in 03. This ain't about that guy. What's been happening lately is some guy who's like straight outta Westboro Baptist Church who has been screaming at people at touching folks that come near him. Yells and screams at people calling them whores and f@gs.
  11. Vito posted this to the blog:
  12. They have rocking chairs. They rock.
  13. THIS^^^^^^^^x1000000000 From what I understand the football teams that come to play us at Apogee stay at hotels down near Texas Motor Speedway or way down in Grapevine because no hotel in Denton has enough meeting space for their needs. We stay the nights before games at the Marriott at Champions Circle across from TMS because it has the room and equipment for the team breakfast and then all the team meetings and position coach breakout meetings before they head to Apogee. The visiting teams have the same needs. The nice Holiday Inn behind Johnny Carino's doesn't have the space. Neither does the Hilton Garden Inn over near Mayhill. A D1 football team staying at a hotel costs a lot of money. That should benefit Denton. And beyond that, UNT is the third largest university in the state, but there is nowhere in the city for UNT to host any number of large conferences or events which we could be doing right now. Hosting conferences and stuff does nothing but boost our reputation and increase our influence and expose the school to more people. Without a convention center we're just participants in our given fields, instead of leaders. For example the Mayborn School of Journalism's conference each year is at the DFW Lakes Hilton right next to Grapevine Mills Mall. There are only a few hundred people who attend but there are a lot of breakout sessions with a dozen or so people in each group. So that's a lot of individual meeting spaces. If the Gateway Center were twice as big it would work. It's pathetic that if UNT were to host C-USA media days at the beginning of football season we couldn't do it in Denton. Also, I don't know anybody that really likes to go to conferences/conventions/trade shows at places like Grapevine or Garland or Frisco, or (shudder) downtown Dallas. Where your only options are driving your rental car to crappy chain restaurants in strip malls. People yearn for somewhere like Denton for events. A vibrant downtown with local business and restaurants. AND ACTUAL BARS. Nice places to go walk around outside after being stuffed inside all day. If we build the right convention center, it's gonna be booked solid year-round and draw important events because of the things that Denton already has to offer. Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the City of Denton or the Denton CVB or the Chamber of Commerce or UNT (besides being an alum). I'm just sick and damn tired of seeing a butt-load of tax money and business going to boring-ass cookie-cutter places like Grapevine and Allen year after year. I hear people from all over the country say how impressed they were with Denton and UNT and how much they loved visiting this place. They say how much they wish they could have their event here but can't because we don't have the facilities.
  14. http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/north-texas-player-stretchered-off-after-crashing-head-1741224764 Looking at the replay, it looks like yes he slid head-first into the wall, but didn't hit the wall head-first. Looks like his shoulders took a lot of the impact and then his helmet hit too. I found an overhead photo that shows how that wall is at Joe Aillet Stadium. There ought to be padding there. It appears that it's just concrete wall with plastic sign on it.
  15. Gretchen Bataille forced him to hire Dodge. Dodge was ultimately chosen because he would come cheaper than Harbaugh, or Leavitt or whoever else was interested then. Because there was no way in hell she was gonna not be the highest compensated individual at the university.
  16. I wanna know if Mean Green Man was approached by the athletic dept to go out on the field with the team or if he asked.
  17. Epic photo gallery: http://www.dentonrc.com/photos/20151101-unt-takes-down-UTKFC-for-first-win-of-season.ece
  18. Would SOOOOOO much rather have that than Queenie's.
