Frog board thread - UNT/Indiana game
pastorgrant replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
IU was my childhood favorite team and the idea of rooting for them over NT never even crossed my mind. -
The O Line has been just fine the last 2 games (DL too). Just need to cut down on the mistakes and see further improvement from Thompson and we have a real shot. Would also like to see the ball in Chancellor's hands more this game, we need 2 big playmakers with the ball instead of 1. I fully expect this to be a game.

TSN - Tulsa/North Texas Preview & Prediction
pastorgrant replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
It's obvious he hasn't watched NT play, so I wouldn't make much of it. -
I don't know the statistics, but it's hard to imagine that UT spends $68 million a year on athletics facilities (that $68 million is profit after all football costs are paid, including the ridiculous coaching salaries). They don't build a new Apogee-like facility every year. It's entirely possible I'm missing something in the equation, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe someone knows how to find the data, though I'm not sure that it would be possible since it's likely that the money from profitable programs goes directly into the general fund and isn't tracked as if it's a donation. Most likely it allows them to hire more faculty/staff, produce research, and keep the tuition down (though it's still too high). And even if every dime gets eaten up by athletics, it still goes to bettering the university. I know we all appreciate the new Athletics complex and Apogee Stadium. It helps with the prestige and atmosphere of the university. Plus, you can't properly account for the fact that successful sports programs increase applications which allows the school to grow while also increasing admissions standards. TCU applications were up something like 20% after winning the Rose Bowl. Universities are out for themselves, but "themselves" includes the students and I don't want to judge them for that.
-
Will probably get -1s for this, but while I understand this viewpoint, there's one thing I don't think a lot of folks take into account is that these schools are non-profit entities and the profits from football goes to bettering the universities. I know a few people make really big salaries, but the people who make these decisions aren't typically the ones whose salaries depend on sports making lots of money. They may be greedy, but its for new science buildings and libraries for their schools, not yachts and big bank accounts.

I really can't predict this one, too many unknowns. But I'll take a shot and say TU 27, NT 24. One thing I do know is NT will improve again and I think we will see fewer turnovers.

Heard a great plug for NT football on a money program on 570 the other day. Not sure what the show was called as I was just flipping through, but he was at the IU game and praised Coach MAC, Apogee Stadium, and said NT has a bright future. It was awesome.

Can't agree more. Freedom is the best motivator. Let's go get a win in Tulsa. If we do, we could soon have a packed stadium AND people outside tailgaiting because they couldn't get tickets and still wanted to come out and support the Mean Green.
-
Yeah, I know it's a joke, but I still hate seeing my beloved Mean Green on it. My point is that UNT will keep getting better and the perception will change so that we won't be the brunt of jokes like that anymore. That's pretty much what Coach Mac said said would happen when he came to North Texas, and I think that time is now.

I think Vito shot a bull's eye here. I told my friend at the game that I think UNT is done with the bottom ten. I could be wrong but I don't think we will see it again for years—if ever. If we do it will be because the writer has cranial-rectal inversion. The team plays better every game and with all the young leaders on the team stepping up, I don't see this changing. And NT is not just building a team, they're building a program, one that we will be proud of for the foreseeable future. So proud of my Mean Green.

Those ball spots were pretty terrible, everyone around us noticed too. NVM who cares, we won! Go Mean Green!!!

I'm from Big Ten country and its hard to imagine Iowa State in the Big Ten. Could happen, things are changing in college sports so rapidly, but it seems like an unlikely fit. I was surprised it didn't work out with Missouri though.

120 yds kickoff returns (30 yard average), 80 yards receiving, 50 yards returning punts.

NT football games are a bargain and I don't buy that excuse. If they wanted to be there bad enough they would be and they would gladly pay $24 per game. But having grown up with a single mom who was a professor at several schools (including UNT), I can tell you that the vast majority of professors aren't making the kind of money you guys are talking about. My mom started at I think 43k at UNT in 1998 after already working for several years as a professor at IU and being successful there. That's not a lot of money when you have a bunch of student loans to pay off. She's making great money now, but that's because she's head of her department. Just saying there's a wide range of salaries among professors. That being said, I make less than 40k and I'll be at every home game. I might be in general admission, but every seat in the house is a great seat and it's tough to find a better way to spend that money.

NT defense gels even more with another 4+ sack game and a big pick. Chancellor will have another 250-ish yard game and good field position makes the difference. Dunbar gets 120+ yards. NT 24 IU 17

I've been an IU fan since the early 90s when my mom, who was a professor there, used to take me to all the games (I will be there in green screaming my head off for NT, BTW). But I think we have a great chance to take IU down this year. Tulsa is looking winnabe too, but I definitely think we take IU at home. Go Mean Green!

Can somebody explain the FIU score to me?
pastorgrant replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
No one left on their schedule they shouldn't beat. Could see an undefeated team in them this year. Would they then have a BCS bowl? That would be amazing for the Belt. -

NT - Bama Score Prediction Thread
pastorgrant replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Mike Ditka shows up to play in JJ's absence, and fills in for Brooks as well.. UNT 100, Alabama 0 called at the half. But in all seriousness, I'd take UNT plus the points. -
I'm hoping for another great game from Chancellor, a little bit of running room for Dunbar, fewer mental mistakes (especially in the secondary), a quicker release from Thompson, and most of all, no injuries. If that happens, I'll feel really good about our chances going into the Indiana game. I'd also like to see McNulty get some snaps (maybe a whole series or two); would be a great learning experience running the offense against one of the best teams in the nation.
-
He looks like a monster out there too. Didn't see Chaz and he wasn't on the participation sheet. Hope to see him out there some as the season goes on.
-
I also hope that they start taking credit cards at concession. Probably lose a lot of sales because of that. The stadium was wonderful, though. I'm pumped for the future of the Mean Green.

TY is averaging 37.2 yards per catch so far this game.
