  1. I saw a handful of them at a basketball game here a few years back. Don't remember exactly when.
  2. So we're a battered wife now? That would explain the co-dependent behavior.
  3. I'm only a fan of UNT. However, I have soft spots for USAFA and Mizzou. My dad went to Air Force and my wife is from Columbia, MO. I have a shirt from Mizzou, mostly because last time we were in Columbia it was way colder than I had anticipated and I didn't have anything with long sleeves to wear to the soccer game we went to. We have a better soccer stadium than they have. Theirs is bigger, but ours is much nicer.
  4. I think he's been very politic here. It's probably been the only thing that's kept him here this long, and if Dickey had been somewhat less impolitic he'd probably still be here. I'm not asking you to reconsider your stance, anyway. I'm just doing what everybody else seems to be doing, nitpicking some little thing while we play out the string. If the text I bolded wasn't true, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I will now cease to be the Devil's Advocate on the matter of the class-actiness of Dodge. My ability to care about the subject has been beaten out of me.
  5. I've been at times a liar and a hypocrite. I've been a far from perfect husband, son, brother, teacher, student, and whatever other roles I've had in my life. I could go on. Do those things make me sorry? Yes, they do somewhat. Does that make me a bad person? I hope not, but I'm willing to accept that possibility and try harder to be better. Do I also think that everybody else out there, you and Coach Dodge included, can say those same things (adjusted to their own life situation)? Absolutely. I don't think that I'm a negative person, but if you think I am you're certainly entitled to think so. I'll just disagree with you. But enough about me, back to football.
  6. That bolded part was actually my point as well. I've always looked a little askance at those who say Dodge is nothing but a class act. Really? I think everybody's sorry to one degree or another. I think people need to tap the brakes just a little and have a healthy degree of skepticism about these things. As for my former coworker, I admit, I don't know everything about what happened. He told me this story back when Dodge first got hired. It was a lunchroom conversation that happened one day and never came back up. I have no idea why he got fired. Frankly, I have no idea how he got hired in the first place. He was kind of a weird guy (kind of! heck, I'm kind of a weird guy, normal people must have thought he was truly bizarre) and I didn't talk to him very much. The thing that stuck with me though, was what he said at the end of the conversation. I'll paraphrase since I don't want to be banned for naughty language. In his opinion, Dodge was a sorry SOB and a mediocre coach on his better days. The only reason he won at Southlake is because he had more money than anyone else. He also hoped that Dodge would show how bad a coach he really was when he took over at UNT. All his opinion, not mine, and I know that there is surely at least one other side to this story if not more, but once the non-competitive losing started in year one that conversation just kept coming back to mind.
  7. I worked with a guy that was one of Dodge's assistants pre Southlake. He thought that he was going to be fired and started looking for another job, then Dodge tells him he won't be fired, he gets offered a job by another school and turns it down thinking that his current job is safe only to be fired by Dodge before the end of the school year. Classy guy indeed.
  8. This one is at least!
  9. They can count on at least two tonight. The wifey and I will be headed over in a little bit.
  10. It's not very easy to directly support, say, Poly Sci for example. I wish them well, but what can you do, really? I was super proud when the TX Historical Society moved its offices here from Austin a few years ago, especially since I was a History major. I just don't understand the people who say that athletics and music cannot be friends. It doesn't make sense to me. Both provide great entertainment for a very reasonable price. Added to that, the COM is as much a "window to the university" as the AD is. Perhaps as a gesture of peace and being the bigger people the AD should start making sure that the student athletes support their fellow students and go to a concert or two every semester. Seeing a coach or two in the Murchison now and again wouldn't hurt either. I'm rambling a bit, but I think my main point is that it's stupid for one part of an institution to be against other parts of it. Can't we all just get along?
  11. Dude, what the eff? I don't know about you, but I think it's awesome that the COM is one of the best in the country, and they'd be full on retard to not promote the hell out of it. I check their events calendar about as much as I do the athletics department's. If you haven't heard the Collegium Singers you're missing out. When you have pride in your school, have pride in your school.
  12. You're no fun. +1 anyway.
  13. But what is fandom if it's not blindly complaining when things don't go how you want them to? It's much more fun to think everyone is out to get you than it is to think rationally about something.
  14. I was wondering the other day how long it would take to get something better than a 15. I was more than a little irritated when we got that last year.
  15. Two problems. The assignment of .8 and .2 values is arbitrary. Why not .7 and .3 or .9 and .1? Nitpicky, I know, but math is like that. Second, shouldn't we, if determining how many games a coach is responsible for winning, consider all games, not just 7? I know that Clemson and K-St were never very likely, but I do remember people saying that if things broke right we had a good chance at both. Having said all of that, if a coach cannot even meet your meager expectations after several years of trying he needs to get gone as soon as we can get the door open so somebody else can give it a go.
  16. Thank you much, Harry. I'll never understand why some of my neighbors are adamantly against any and all things UNT. How many neighborhoods out there have a Division 1 athletic complex in them? Take advantage of what you have, I say.
  17. Surely the sweet and genteel brotherly love that exists on GMG.com would not permit such a thing. Well, not that many years. I was in school during the bowl years (boy, did I know what year to graduate from high school, or what?) and started lurking towards the end of that time, but I will try. 1. Six of one, half dozen of the other. 2. I was trained with two fingers and thumb, but I think this is a generational issue. Similarly, my Dad hates the Redskins and is merely irritated by Philly; I hate Philly, but am merely irritated by the Redskins. 3. SOW 4. Are you gay? ARE YOU GAY! I love you. 5. We're going to host The Krispy Kreme Bowl 6. Scrappy, Eppy sounds stupid 7. I have bad eyes, I can hardly tell the difference 8. Build the Belt, but mostly build ourselves. My pipe dream about conference realignment is long and complicated. If you really want to know I can send the entire chart to you. 9. Before my time, no ability to have a rational opinion, not like that stops some. 10. No idea. 11. Never. 12. I've been in a 12-step program for ex-marching band members for a decade now. I shouldn't start talking about that. 13. It can stay on the car wash sign on Eagle Dr.
  18. I've been reading the board for a few years and signed up a few days ago, so I thought I should introduce myself and let people know what I think of some of the major controversies/threads that have been going on here. I get the impression that I'm the UNT fan in Denia, but I don't think the true haters are as numerous as some seem to think. Most people, like most people in Denton as a whole, just don't care. I think Dodge should be fired the instant a winning season is mathematically impossible. I think we need to go get a name guy to replace him, a al Coach Fran, who I prefer to Leach. I like windmills. Just thought I should be up front about these things. --Pedro
